Best alternatives to the Galaxy S27 Pro for better camera hardware (2026 guide)

Short answer: the Galaxy S27 Pro does not yet have a confirmed public camera specification sheet. Reports disagree about its telephoto camera, so no phone can be declared a proven camera-hardware winner against it. If you need documented hardware now, the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is the closest high-end Samsung alternative, while the Google Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL offer a clearly specified 48MP 5x telephoto system.

As of October 13, 2026, choose among those phones based on the camera hardware you can verify, not on leaked S27 Pro numbers. The S26 Ultra offers a 200MP main camera, 50MP ultrawide and both 3x and 5x optical zoom. The Pixel 10 Pro line uses a 50MP main camera, 48MP 5x telephoto and 48MP ultrawide. Those specifications establish what is installed; they do not, by themselves, prove which phone produces better photographs.

What the Galaxy S27 Pro camera is actually known to have

Samsung has not published an official Galaxy S27 Pro camera specification sheet in the available material. A SamMobile report from June 25, 2026 said GSMA database records identified an in-development device as the Galaxy S27 Pro. That database identification is not a Samsung product announcement and does not establish a final camera configuration.

Subsequent leaks conflict on the most important component: the telephoto camera.

  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  • A SamMobile report dated August 3, 2026, attributing details to ETNews, described a 12MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom and a 200MP main camera.
  • The same report noted that earlier leaks had suggested a 50MP telephoto, reportedly at 3.5x.
  • Android Authority reported another leak describing a 50MP zoom camera but did not establish its optical zoom level.

Because these reports disagree, phrases such as “the S27 Pro has a 12MP 3x camera” or “the S27 Pro has a 50MP 3.5x camera” would be misleading. Treat both as provisional possibilities. The sources do not establish a release date, price, regional availability, front-camera specification, video specification or final sensor sizes.

The practical consequence is simple: you can compare the S27 Pro only conditionally. If the 12MP 3x report is accurate, a phone with a documented 48MP 5x telephoto has a higher stated telephoto resolution and a longer native optical reach. If the 50MP report is accurate, the resolution comparison changes, but the optical focal length is still unknown. Neither scenario tells you which device takes better pictures without controlled testing.

Documented alternatives at a glance

Phone Specification status Main camera Dedicated telephoto Ultrawide Display size What the figures establish
Galaxy S27 Pro Rumored; reports conflict 200MP reported by multiple leaks; not official 12MP at 3x in one report; 50MP in other reports, optical level unknown or reported as 3.5x Not stated Not stated Nothing is final until Samsung publishes specifications
Galaxy S26 Ultra Official Samsung information 200MP wide 3x and 5x optical zoom; 2x and 10x optical-quality zoom; up to 100x Space Zoom 50MP 6.9 inches The most direct documented Samsung comparison
Google Pixel 10 Pro Listed in TechRadar’s 2026 Android guide 50MP 48MP 5x telephoto 48MP 6.3 inches A compact, non-Samsung option with a stated 5x telephoto
Google Pixel 10 Pro XL Listed in TechRadar’s 2026 Android guide 50MP 48MP 5x telephoto 48MP 6.8 inches The larger Pixel version with the same listed rear-camera resolutions

The S26 Ultra figures come from Samsung’s February 2026 launch information and Samsung UK’s product descriptions. The Pixel figures come from TechRadar’s 2026 Android guide. A specification table is not a laboratory comparison: it does not measure detail retention, autofocus, motion handling, flare, noise, stabilization or video quality.

Why the Galaxy S26 Ultra is the safest Samsung alternative

Its camera hardware is documented

Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra is the straightforward choice for someone who wants to stay with Samsung but cannot wait for confirmed S27 Pro specifications. Samsung lists a 200MP wide camera and a 50MP ultrawide camera. It also specifies separate 3x and 5x optical zoom capabilities.

That combination matters because a dedicated telephoto lens uses a native focal length rather than enlarging a crop from the main sensor. The S26 Ultra also advertises 2x and 10x optical-quality zoom and Space Zoom up to 100x. “Optical quality” and “Space Zoom” are not additional dedicated optical lenses: they describe computational or cropped modes intended to preserve useful detail beyond the native optical positions. They should not be counted as equivalent to a second 10x optical telephoto.

Where it could exceed a rumored S27 Pro on paper

Against the leak describing a 12MP 3x S27 Pro telephoto, the S26 Ultra has a higher-resolution dedicated telephoto specification and an additional stated 5x optical position. That is a hardware advantage on the specification sheet for subjects framed around 5x. It is not proof of better images, because processing, lens quality, sensor size, focus behavior and stabilization can change the result.

Against the leak describing a 50MP S27 Pro zoom camera, the comparison is less decisive. The S27 Pro’s reported optical level is either 3.5x or unknown, while the S26 Ultra explicitly lists 3x and 5x optical zoom. The S26 Ultra therefore has the more transparent reach specification, not necessarily the better sensor.

The size trade-off

Samsung’s launch announcement gives the S26 Ultra a 6.9-inch display. A large screen can make framing distant subjects and reviewing fine detail easier, but it also affects one-handed use, pocketability and weight. The S26 Ultra is a poor fit if your priority is a smaller phone, even though its camera hardware is well documented.

What the Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL offer

Same listed rear-camera resolutions, two sizes

TechRadar’s 2026 Android guide lists both Pixel 10 Pro models with a 50MP main camera, 48MP 5x telephoto and 48MP ultrawide. The Pixel 10 Pro has a 6.3-inch display; the Pro XL has a 6.8-inch display. On the published figures, moving to the XL changes the phone’s size rather than the rear-camera resolution set.

The 48MP 5x telephoto is the clearest documented alternative for a buyer specifically seeking a high-resolution, native 5x camera outside Samsung. It would give you a straightforward comparison point against the S26 Ultra’s stated 5x optical zoom and against the S27 Pro leak that mentions a 3x telephoto.

What those numbers do not prove

A 48MP telephoto does not automatically produce sharper or cleaner photographs than a lower-megapixel telephoto. Pixel count is only one part of a camera system. Lens transmission, sensor area, pixel-binning behavior, autofocus, optical stabilization, computational processing and exposure choices all affect the final file. The available material contains no controlled head-to-head test between either Pixel model and the S27 Pro, so an overall image-quality winner cannot be named.

Choosing between the Pro and Pro XL

Select the Pixel 10 Pro when a 6.3-inch phone is easier to carry and operate. Select the Pro XL when you prefer a 6.8-inch viewing and framing area. The available specification listing does not establish a camera advantage for one size over the other.

Optical, optical-quality and digital zoom: the distinction that prevents bad comparisons

Camera-phone zoom labels are easy to misread:

  • Optical zoom: a lens provides a native focal length, such as 3x or 5x. This is the relevant figure when comparing dedicated telephoto reach.
  • Optical-quality zoom: the phone uses cropping, sensor resolution and software to target a magnification that is intended to look close to an optical result. It is not the same as a separate lens at that focal length.
  • Digital or hybrid zoom: the phone enlarges and processes the image beyond native optical coverage. Results depend heavily on scene detail and software.

For example, the S26 Ultra’s 5x optical zoom and 10x optical-quality zoom should be recorded as two different capabilities. Calling both “optical zoom” would overstate the hardware. Likewise, a leak that says the S27 Pro has a 50MP zoom camera does not tell you whether it is a native 3x, 3.5x, 5x or another focal length unless that detail is explicitly reported.

Which alternative fits each buying situation?

You want a documented Samsung camera system now

Choose the Galaxy S26 Ultra. It is the only option here with an official Samsung specification set that includes the 200MP wide camera, 50MP ultrawide and explicitly stated 3x and 5x optical zoom. Buy it for those known capabilities, not on the assumption that it will outperform a future S27 Pro in image quality.

You care most about a 5x telephoto

Compare the Galaxy S26 Ultra and either Pixel 10 Pro model. Both have a stated 5x telephoto position, although the published descriptions identify different telephoto resolutions: Samsung specifies the S26 Ultra’s overall zoom system, while TechRadar lists a 48MP 5x telephoto for the Pixels. The S27 Pro’s 5x capability is not established.

  • Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft

You want a smaller high-end phone

The Pixel 10 Pro’s listed 6.3-inch display is the smallest documented size among these alternatives. The S26 Ultra is 6.9 inches and the Pixel 10 Pro XL is 6.8 inches. Screen size does not measure camera quality, but it is a meaningful handling difference when the camera phone is also your everyday phone.

You want the largest preview for framing

The S26 Ultra’s 6.9-inch display is marginally larger than the Pixel 10 Pro XL’s 6.8-inch display. That can make composing and checking focus more comfortable, while also making the phone less compact. The choice is ergonomic rather than a guarantee of sharper images.

You are specifically waiting for the S27 Pro

Wait if you are comfortable with uncertain timing and want Samsung’s eventual official specification before spending money. Do not buy an S27 Pro based on a leak that promises a particular telephoto resolution. Reassess once Samsung publishes the camera table for your market and independent reviews test the finished phone.

A practical wait-or-buy decision framework

  1. Set your required focal length. Decide whether you regularly need a native 3x portrait view, a 5x subject view or mostly the main and ultrawide cameras.
  2. Reject unverified S27 Pro claims. Mark the telephoto as unknown until Samsung publishes an official specification. The conflicting 12MP and 50MP reports cannot be reconciled into one fact.
  3. Choose a documented hardware baseline. Use the S26 Ultra if Samsung continuity and multiple stated optical positions matter; use a Pixel 10 Pro model if a documented 48MP 5x telephoto and a non-Samsung platform appeal to you.
  4. Pick the physical size. Compare 6.3, 6.8 and 6.9 inches against your grip, pocket and viewing preferences.
  5. Check your region before ordering. Camera specifications and model availability can vary by market. Confirm the exact regional model and current listing rather than relying on a global summary.
  6. Use hands-on tests for the final image-quality decision. Look for controlled comparisons covering daylight detail, indoor noise, night scenes, moving subjects, autofocus, ultrawide corners, telephoto stabilization and video. The specification numbers alone cannot answer those questions.

How to evaluate camera hardware when reviews arrive

Main-camera detail

Compare photographs at the same framing and output size. A 200MP mode may use different binning or processing from a 50MP mode, so inspect both normal shooting and any high-resolution mode that reviewers test. Do not treat the larger megapixel count as a guaranteed resolution win.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Telephoto reach and continuity

Check native optical positions separately from cropped or computational modes. A review should identify whether a sample was captured at 3x, 3.5x, 5x, 10x optical-quality or a higher digital setting. This prevents a phone from appearing to have a longer optical lens than it actually does.

Low light and motion

Ask whether the telephoto remains usable indoors or at night, and whether moving people stay sharp. These tests reveal limitations that a daylight resolution chart will miss. No such comparative results are established in the available material for the S27 Pro, S26 Ultra and Pixel 10 Pro line.

Ultrawide consistency

Compare corner sharpness, distortion correction and color matching between the ultrawide and main cameras. The S26 Ultra’s 50MP ultrawide and the Pixels’ listed 48MP ultrawide provide a hardware starting point, but megapixels do not establish edge quality or color consistency.

Video behavior

Check stabilization while walking, exposure transitions between lenses, microphone performance and whether switching cameras preserves resolution. The sources do not provide S27 Pro video specifications, so avoid buying on an assumed video feature set.

Common mistakes when shopping for a “better camera”

  • Promoting a leak to a specification: the S27 Pro telephoto reports are contradictory and remain rumors.
  • Equating megapixels with image quality: resolution does not reveal sensor size, lens quality or processing.
  • Counting optical-quality zoom as another optical lens: the S26 Ultra’s 10x optical-quality mode is not a dedicated 10x telephoto.
  • Assuming the larger phone takes better photographs: the 6.9-inch S26 Ultra and 6.8-inch Pixel 10 Pro XL are larger devices, not automatically better cameras.
  • Using a global specification for a local purchase: confirm the exact regional model, memory configuration and availability before ordering.
  • Using a hardware table as a test result: the listed figures establish components and stated zoom positions, not real-world superiority.

Bottom line for buyers in 2026

If you need a camera phone now and want the most defensible hardware comparison, start with the Galaxy S26 Ultra or Google Pixel 10 Pro/Pro XL. The S26 Ultra is the documented Samsung path, with a 200MP wide camera, 50MP ultrawide, 3x and 5x optical zoom, and additional optical-quality modes. The Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL are the documented alternatives with a 50MP main, 48MP 5x telephoto and 48MP ultrawide, in 6.3-inch and 6.8-inch sizes.

If your decision depends on the Galaxy S27 Pro’s telephoto, wait for Samsung’s official specification sheet. Current reports range from a 12MP 3x unit to a 50MP zoom camera with an uncertain optical level. Until that conflict is resolved and independent testing exists, “better than the S27 Pro” is not an established camera-performance claim; it is only a comparison of documented hardware against rumors.
