If you want to replace an iPhone without buying a Samsung, start with a Google Pixel; if battery life and performance matter more, consider the OnePlus 15. Xiaomi, Oppo and Honor also offer premium Android alternatives in some markets, but their availability and support are not universal. The right choice depends on whether you want to leave iOS, avoid both Apple and Samsung, or simply prioritize a particular camera, battery or performance profile.
First decide what you want to leave behind
There are two different shopping questions here: what to buy instead of an iPhone, and what to buy instead of both an iPhone and a Samsung Galaxy S phone. A Galaxy S model is an Android alternative to iPhone, but it does not meet the second goal. WhistleOut’s May 7, 2026 guide names the Galaxy S26 as its overall iPhone alternative and the Pixel 10 as its photography pick; it also includes the Galaxy Z Flip7 for shoppers interested in a foldable. Those Samsung choices only fit buyers who are open to Samsung.

If you want to move from iOS to Android while avoiding Samsung, the Google Pixel line is the clearest starting point in the recommendations considered here. If you already use Android or are choosing on hardware priorities, compare the OnePlus 15 and, where locally sold and supported, premium Xiaomi, Oppo and Honor models.

How to choose between them
Leaving iOS is more than changing the home screen
Switching from an iPhone to Android changes interface habits, services and how your devices work together. If the main goal is to get away from Apple’s ecosystem, Android gives you a different platform; a Pixel is the most direct fit among these choices for buyers who also want Google’s software and camera features. Before ordering, check that the model is unlocked and compatible with your carrier. WIRED’s Android buying guide, updated in September 2026, also emphasizes checking network compatibility and unlocked status.

Match the camera to what you actually shoot
“Best camera” can mean different things: portraits, low-light photos, zoom, video or editing flexibility. The cited recommendations favor Pixel for its photography and software profile, while TechRadar presents the Xiaomi 17 Ultra as a photography-focused hardware option where it is available. Pixel 10 Pro XL is not described as the performance leader, so buyers who edit demanding video on the phone should weigh that trade-off rather than choosing on camera reputation alone.
For battery and speed, look beyond headline specs
TechRadar’s June roundup highlights the OnePlus 15’s battery and performance credentials, including its reported 165 Hz display and 7,300 mAh battery. Battery capacity and display refresh rate do not by themselves predict how long a phone lasts or how smoothly it handles a sustained workload. Compare testing from the same review source where possible, and consider whether your own use is dominated by gaming, editing, navigation or ordinary daily tasks.

Check local availability before settling on a model
Market coverage matters especially for Xiaomi, Oppo and Honor. A recommendation in a US-focused or US/UK/Australia comparison does not establish that a handset is sold, warrantied or fully supported in every country. Before buying an imported or region-specific model, verify unlocked status, carrier bands, warranty coverage, software language and region support, and stock from a local retailer. Prices and lineups can change; the cited WhistleOut price comparisons are US-context figures and should not be treated as current prices for other markets.

Practical shortlist
- Want an iPhone alternative and want to avoid Samsung? Start with Pixel 10 or Pixel 10 Pro XL, depending on the model and configuration available to you.
- Prioritize an all-rounder with battery credentials? Compare the OnePlus 15, using current local listings and independent testing to confirm fit.
- Want a photography-focused premium phone? Consider Xiaomi 17 Ultra only if it is officially sold and supported where you live.
- Considering Oppo or Honor? Treat Find X9 Ultra and Magic 8 Pro as market-dependent premium choices, and confirm warranty and carrier compatibility first.
- Only want to move from iPhone, not Samsung? Galaxy S26 or Galaxy Z Flip7 can remain in the comparison; they are not choices for someone leaving Samsung as well.
