Visible, US Mobile and Mint Mobile are useful starting points, but the best fit depends on your address, phone and usage. If you would rather stay on T-Mobile’s network, T-Mobile Prepaid, Metro by T-Mobile and Google Fi are alternatives to consider.
Which T-Mobile alternative should you compare first?
| Provider | Good starting point for | Published plan details |
|---|---|---|
| Visible | One line seeking unlimited prepaid service on Verizon’s network | Visible lists its base plan at $25 per month, with taxes included, no contract and unlimited data. Check its broadband facts and coverage map for current terms and availability. |
| US Mobile | People who want limited-data pricing or a choice of network options | US Mobile’s September 2026 comparison lists Light at $8 per month for 2GB and Unlimited Starter at $25 per month, and describes network choice and included taxes. These are provider-reported figures; confirm the price and terms at checkout. |
| Mint Mobile | People able to prepay for several months to get a lower effective monthly price | US Mobile’s comparison reports Mint Unlimited at an effective $15 per month on a $180, 12-month bundle. It says the introductory rate applies only to the first term and the price rises at renewal. Check the renewal price and taxes before buying. |
| T-Mobile Prepaid | People who want to leave T-Mobile postpaid but stay with T-Mobile | T-Mobile lists Starter at $40 per month with AutoPay ($45 for the first month) and Unlimited at $45 per month with AutoPay ($50 for the first month), before taxes and fees. Its page describes a five-year price guarantee with exclusions. |
| Metro by T-Mobile or Google Fi | People who value multi-line options, features or international use and may prefer T-Mobile’s network | Android Central describes Metro’s multi-line and feature options, and Google Fi’s international travel features. It reports Google Fi Flexible at $20 per month plus usage-based data charges and Unlimited Essentials at $35 per month. Verify current plan terms before switching. |
These figures are not a guarantee of service at a particular address or of the final checkout price. A carrier comparison cannot establish indoor reception, congestion or the best plan for your exact usage.

What do low-cost plans actually cost?
A cheaper monthly equivalent can come with a higher upfront payment or a short-lived promotion. Mint’s reported $15 monthly equivalent, for example, is based on paying $180 for a year, and its introductory rate does not necessarily continue at renewal. Compare the amount due today with the recurring cost after the first term.
Limited-data plans can be substantially cheaper than unlimited options if your typical use is modest. US Mobile’s September 2026 comparison lists 2GB on Light for $8 per month. CTIA’s 2026 Wireless Affordability Tracker also lists Tello 2GB at $8 per month. Check what happens when you use up your data and whether hotspot use counts against the same allowance.

For broader context, CTIA’s 2026 tracker estimates that in 2025 a typical unlimited plan cost $55 per month and an affordable prepaid plan cost $9 per month nationally. CTIA defines its typical unlimited measure as a postpaid, single-line unlimited plan from major nationwide operators; family plans can lower the per-line cost. These tracker estimates are not quotes for a particular household.
How to compare plans without overlooking the trade-offs
Coverage where you actually use your phone
Visible’s published base unlimited plan uses Verizon’s 4G LTE and 5G networks, while other options may use a different network. A network change can improve service in one place and weaken it in another. Check provider coverage maps for home, work and regular travel routes; where possible, test service at those locations before porting your number.

Recurring bill, taxes and upfront payment
Compare the price after any introductory period, plus taxes, fees and AutoPay conditions. T-Mobile Prepaid lists prices before taxes and fees and shows different first-month and recurring AutoPay prices. Visible says its $25 base plan includes government taxes. For a multi-month or annual plan, compare the amount due upfront as well as the monthly equivalent.

Data, congestion and hotspot
“Unlimited” does not mean every plan delivers the same speeds under every condition. T-Mobile’s prepaid page describes conditions that can affect heavy data users during congestion. Read each provider’s plan details and broadband facts for its own data-management practices, high-speed data amount and hotspot allowance.

Lines, travel and included features
Compare one-line pricing separately from multi-line pricing: a per-line family-plan rate can depend on how many lines you add and other eligibility conditions. If international roaming, calling, texting, hotspot, retail support, phone financing or bundled subscriptions matter to you, include them in the comparison rather than treating the lowest headline rate as the whole value.
Check your phone before switching
T-Mobile Prepaid’s page says, “Keep your phone and everything in it,” while advising customers to check compatibility with the T-Mobile network. Before purchasing or porting service, confirm that your phone is unlocked and compatible with the specific carrier and plan you choose. A 5G-capable phone is not automatically compatible with every carrier or band. If you need a replacement handset, verify its unlocked status and target-network compatibility before buying.

How to make the choice
- Set your requirements. Note your usual monthly data use, hotspot needs, number of lines, travel patterns and must-have features.
- Check network coverage. Compare provider maps against the places you routinely use your phone, and test service if you can.
- Calculate the real cost. Include taxes, fees, AutoPay, first-month pricing, renewals and any multi-month prepayment.
- Read the plan’s limits. Check high-speed data, hotspot, congestion management and what happens when an allowance runs out.
- Confirm device readiness. Verify unlock status and compatibility before you buy a plan or port your number.
For a single line and a Verizon-network alternative, start with Visible. For lower-cost limited data or network choices, compare US Mobile. If paying ahead is acceptable, investigate Mint’s current renewal pricing. If staying on T-Mobile’s network matters more than leaving the brand, compare T-Mobile Prepaid, Metro and Google Fi against your needs.
