LG StanbyME 2 is the closest documented current alternative to Samsung The Sero. It supports landscape and portrait viewing, has a detachable battery-powered screen, and accepts Apple AirPlay and Google Cast. Samsung MovingStyle is the better fit for Galaxy owners who mainly want Smart View mirroring and a wheeled display, but Samsung’s available setup guide does not confirm automatic portrait rotation. Conventional OLED and QLED televisions can deliver a better cinema or gaming picture, yet they do not reproduce The Sero’s rotating-phone experience.
What The Sero does that ordinary TVs do not
The Sero’s defining feature is mechanical rotation. Samsung describes the panel changing from standard landscape to vertical portrait mode, with mirrored images following the phone’s orientation. That matters for TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, portrait photographs, mobile games and any app designed around a tall screen. The display is not merely placing a narrow portrait video inside a sideways television; the entire panel turns.

Samsung’s documented workflows combine SmartThings setup with Smart View, Tap View and other phone-sharing options. Tap View starts mirroring by tapping a compatible phone against the television’s corner, while Smart View sends a Galaxy phone’s screen over the network. Independent testing from RTINGS also identifies the rotating IPS panel and mirroring for apps, games and media.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
- Physical portrait use: the panel should rotate or be purpose-built for vertical viewing, rather than forcing a portrait feed into a landscape frame.
- Reliable phone sharing: iPhone and Android owners need a supported wireless protocol, and Galaxy users may value Smart View specifically.
- Practical mobility: a wheeled stand, detachable display or internal battery makes vertical viewing useful in more than one room.
No single documented product matches every Sero characteristic at every screen size. The choices below separate a true portrait-oriented replacement from a better-picture conventional television.
LG StanbyME 2: the closest documented match
Portrait and landscape operation
LG’s US announcement dated July 29, 2025 says StanbyME 2 supports both landscape and portrait orientations. The screen can be used vertically for phone-style video and horizontally for television programming, and its display detaches from the stand. This is the closest documented feature match to The Sero because orientation is a core hardware function rather than an app-specific crop.
The detachable design also changes how you use it. You can leave the stand in a living room, carry the screen to a bedroom or kitchen, and reattach it when you want wheeled movement. The exact rotation mechanism and the way an orientation change is detected can vary by regional model, so confirm the local product page before ordering.

LG lists Apple AirPlay, Google Cast and TV mirroring. That gives iPhone users a native AirPlay route and Android users a Google Cast route without requiring a separate streaming dongle. Casting sends supported app content to the display; mirroring duplicates the phone screen, which is more useful for apps that do not provide a cast button.
AirPlay and Google Cast still depend on compatible software, account settings and a common network in normal home use. A phone and the StanbyME 2 should be connected to the same Wi-Fi network when the cast target does not appear. A corporate, hotel or guest network that isolates devices can prevent discovery even when internet access works.
Battery, charging and mobility
LG says the 27-inch StanbyME 2 provides up to four hours of continuous video playback from its built-in battery. “Up to” is a laboratory-style maximum for the announced configuration, not a guaranteed runtime at maximum brightness, high speaker volume or heavy wireless use. Playback time will also vary with content and battery age.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
LG specifies a USB-C charger or power bank rated at 65 W or higher for charging the screen from an external source. A phone-class power bank may light the charging indicator yet fail to supply enough wattage for reliable operation. Check the power bank’s USB-C Power Delivery output, not just its capacity in milliamp-hours. Charging while viewing can also require more output than charging while the screen is off.

Screen sizes and image specifications
LG’s current product information lists the 27-inch StanbyME 2 at QHD resolution, 2,560 × 1,440 pixels, with a 60 Hz refresh rate. The same information lists the 32-inch StanbyME 2 Max as 4K and gives it a 4.5-hour battery rating. Those are separate size and model specifications; do not assume that the 27-inch model is 4K or that both batteries last the same time.
The 27-inch resolution is well suited to a portrait phone feed because a 9:16 video can occupy a tall central area with clear text and faces. It is not a substitute for the pixel density of a modern phone held close to your eyes, and 60 Hz is oriented toward general video rather than high-refresh competitive gaming.
Price and who should choose it
LG Electronics USA announced a US launch price of $1,299.99 for StanbyME 2 in 2025. That was a launch price and can change with promotions, inventory and region. Taxes, delivery and different screen-size packages may produce a different total.
Choose StanbyME 2 when portrait phone video, cross-platform casting and room-to-room use matter more than owning a large fixed television. It is especially practical for households that mix iPhones, Android phones and streaming apps. It is less compelling if your priority is a very large screen, dark-room contrast or console gaming features that are normally associated with premium fixed OLED televisions.
How to set up StanbyME 2 for portrait phone video
- Assemble and charge the display. Attach the screen to its stand if you want the wheeled configuration, or use it detached according to the regional manual. For external charging, use a USB-C charger or power bank rated at 65 W or higher.
- Connect the display to Wi-Fi. Open the network settings in webOS and join the same home network used by the phone. Avoid a guest network that blocks device-to-device traffic.
- Choose the physical orientation. Rotate the screen to portrait before starting a vertical video. Return it to landscape for conventional television or widescreen movies.
- Use an iPhone. Open Control Center, select Screen Mirroring or the AirPlay control inside a supported app, and choose StanbyME 2. Approve the pairing code on the display if one appears.
- Use an Android phone. In a compatible app, tap the Google Cast icon and select the display. For apps without casting, use the phone’s system screen-cast or mirroring control when supported by that handset.
- Test both directions. Play a portrait clip, rotate the phone and verify that the display remains in the intended orientation. Then test a landscape video before relying on the setup for an event or presentation.
Samsung MovingStyle: the Galaxy-friendly mobility option
What Samsung documents
Samsung’s MovingStyle setup guide says the display can mirror mobile devices and PCs or cast wirelessly when both devices share a network. Galaxy owners can use Smart View, which makes MovingStyle a natural choice for a Samsung-phone household that wants a movable screen and familiar controls.

- Travel Must-Have for People On the Go: A must-have travel accessory for flights, flying, airports, air travel, airplanes, planes, international trips, cruises, and long travel days. Key gadget for your airport haul, travel accessories and must-haves.
The retrieved guide does not document automatic portrait rotation. That distinction is important: MovingStyle should be described as a movable mirroring display, not as a confirmed Sero-equivalent rotating television. A portrait video may appear as a vertical image inside a landscape panel, depending on the phone, app and display software.
Best use cases
- Galaxy mirroring: Smart View provides a straightforward path for showing a phone screen, photos, apps or games.
- PC sharing: the guide includes wireless connection of PCs, useful for presentations or a second work surface.
- Flexible placement: the wheeled form factor lets you move the display without installing a wall mount.
Pick MovingStyle when Samsung ecosystem integration is more important than confirmed vertical hardware. If your purchase depends on the panel physically turning for TikTok or Shorts, ask the seller for the exact regional model’s rotation documentation before paying.
MovingStyle connection procedure
- Connect MovingStyle and the phone or computer to the same Wi-Fi network.
- On a Galaxy phone, open the Quick Settings panel and choose Smart View.
- Select MovingStyle from the available displays and approve the connection on the screen if prompted.
- For a PC, use the operating system’s wireless display or casting command described in Samsung’s setup guide.
- If the display is missing, disable VPN or guest-network isolation temporarily and retry discovery.
Conventional premium TVs: better picture, different purpose
A fixed OLED or QLED television can be the better purchase when your main activities are films, HDR shows or console gaming. RTINGS reports that the LG CX OLED is significantly better than The Sero for picture quality and gaming. The reason is not that The Sero is defective; its IPS panel and rotating portrait design solve a different problem.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →A conventional television generally offers a larger screen, stronger dark-room contrast on OLED models and more traditional seating geometry. It also avoids the compromises of a wheeled stand and battery. However, the evidence available here does not show a conventional premium TV reproducing The Sero’s automatic vertical-phone experience. A software rotation setting can display a portrait feed, but it does not make a landscape panel physically taller.
Choose a conventional premium TV when:
- Movies and games account for most of your viewing.
- You want a large fixed screen and do not need room-to-room use.
- Black levels, HDR impact and gaming response matter more than portrait apps.
Choose a portrait-oriented mobile display instead when the phone is the source you watch most often and vertical framing is central to the experience.

Which alternative fits your phone and viewing habits?
If you use an iPhone
StanbyME 2 has the clearest documented path because LG explicitly lists Apple AirPlay. You can mirror the entire iPhone screen or cast from a compatible app. MovingStyle may work through generic casting or a third-party method, but the cited Samsung guide specifically highlights Smart View for Galaxy owners rather than an iPhone-first workflow.

If you use a Galaxy phone
MovingStyle is the simplest ecosystem match for Smart View and wireless sharing. StanbyME 2 remains the stronger choice if you require a confirmed portrait-capable panel, because its orientation support is explicitly stated. Decide whether Galaxy convenience or physical vertical viewing is the non-negotiable requirement.

If your household uses both platforms
StanbyME 2 has the broadest documented protocol mix: AirPlay for Apple devices, Google Cast for Android devices and general mirroring. This avoids making one family switch phones or buy separate adapters.
If you mainly watch movies and play games
Start with a conventional premium OLED or QLED comparison. The Sero-style rotation is valuable only when portrait content is frequent; otherwise you may be paying for a mechanism and mobile stand that remain unused. RTINGS’ comparison with the LG CX OLED supports treating picture quality and portrait flexibility as separate priorities.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Portrait video quality: what to expect
A vertical source does not automatically fill every pixel of a television. A 9:16 clip on a 16:9 panel normally produces side borders, while a physically rotated display can use the panel’s full height. The result also depends on the app: some players preserve the phone’s aspect ratio, some crop, and some rotate only after playback begins.
Screen rotation and content rotation are separate events. Rotate the display first, then start the clip, and check whether captions, comments or controls are still visible. If a mirrored app locks itself to landscape, the display cannot force that app to generate a true portrait layout. Casting a supported vertical video can look cleaner than mirroring a phone whose interface is changing orientation.
Price, availability and regional checks
The only specific launch figure in the cited material is $1,299.99 for StanbyME 2 in the United States in 2025. Current promotions, inventory, taxes and regional model numbers can change the amount. LG’s 27-inch and 32-inch products also differ in resolution and stated battery runtime, so compare the exact diagonal and model name rather than assuming every StanbyME 2 listing has the same specification.

Before ordering any alternative, verify:
- The screen size and whether the listing is the 27-inch StanbyME 2 or 32-inch StanbyME 2 Max.
- That portrait and landscape operation is supported in your region.
- Whether the included stand, charger and detachable-screen hardware are part of the package.
- Wireless protocol support for your specific phone: AirPlay, Google Cast, Smart View or another method.
- Power-bank compatibility, including the required 65 W USB-C output for StanbyME 2 external charging.

Troubleshooting phone mirroring
The display does not appear on the phone
Confirm both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network, not merely connected to the same router name through an isolated guest network. Turn off a VPN temporarily, restart Wi-Fi on the phone and reboot the display. On iPhone, reopen Control Center after the display finishes joining the network. On Android, reopen Smart View or the Cast picker after network changes.
The video has black bars or is sideways
Check whether you are mirroring the entire phone or casting from the app. A mirrored interface may preserve the app’s landscape lock, while a cast receiver may honor the video’s portrait metadata. Rotate the physical display before reconnecting and test a known 9:16 clip. If only one app fails, the limitation is likely that app’s player rather than the display.
Mirroring disconnects during playback
Move the display and phone closer to the Wi-Fi access point, reduce congestion from large downloads and keep the display on stable power. Battery-saving modes can suspend background casting on some phones. For StanbyME 2, an external source should meet LG’s 65 W-or-higher USB-C requirement; an underpowered bank can cause instability while the screen is active.
The portrait image looks soft
A phone may send a lower-resolution mirror stream than the panel’s native resolution, and social apps often compress uploaded video. The 27-inch StanbyME 2 is QHD, not 4K, while the 32-inch StanbyME 2 Max is listed as 4K. Neither specification can restore detail that was removed by the source app or wireless connection.
Buying recommendation
Buy LG StanbyME 2 if you want the most complete documented replacement for The Sero: physical portrait and landscape use, detachable mobility, a built-in battery and broad AirPlay/Google Cast support. Select the 27-inch QHD model for a more compact footprint, or investigate the 32-inch StanbyME 2 Max when 4K resolution and its stated 4.5-hour battery matter more.
Choose Samsung MovingStyle for a Galaxy-centered household that values Smart View, PC mirroring and a movable display but can live without confirmed automatic rotation. Choose a conventional premium OLED or QLED when cinematic contrast and gaming quality are the priority and vertical phone viewing is occasional. The key decision is not simply which screen is newest; it is whether the panel must physically become a phone-shaped portrait display.
