Google Photos is the best all-round alternative to Samsung Galaxy Enhance-X for most Android owners. It combines automatic enhancement suggestions, crop and perspective correction, tonal controls and object removal in one editor. Galaxy users who only need routine adjustments can stay in Samsung Gallery, while compatible Samsung phones can continue using Enhance-X for targeted fixes such as shadows, moiré and low-detail restoration. Snapseed is a capable separate editor, and Adobe Lightroom is the option to investigate when you need a more advanced workflow.
No alternative has exactly the same tools or device coverage as Enhance-X. Your phone’s Android version, RAM, manufacturer and the specific correction you need determine which app is actually available and useful.

Enhance-X was designed around one-tap enhancement and corrections for difficult shots. Samsung’s announcement specifically mentions unwanted shadows, lens distortion and lighting imbalance, while Google Photos emphasizes broader editing and object cleanup. That difference matters: an app can be excellent for removing a distraction without being a substitute for every restoration or shadow-correction control.

Samsung describes Enhance-X as an app that lets users “freely customize and remaster their photos,” particularly when a stray shadow, lens distortion or lighting imbalance damages an otherwise good image. Its current support page, rather than the older announcement, should be used to check whether your phone qualifies.
Google Photos: the best general starting point
Google Photos is the most broadly useful first alternative when you want quick corrections on an Android phone. Its editor offers suggested Enhance, Dynamic and AI Enhance results, and AI Enhance can generate multiple versions for you to compare. You can also make a conventional edit yourself instead of accepting a suggestion.
What you can do
- Crop and straighten an image.
- Correct perspective when vertical or horizontal lines lean.
- Adjust brightness, contrast, saturation, warmth and other tonal controls.
- Use Magic Eraser to select and remove distracting objects.
- Apply suggested enhancement rather than adjusting every control manually.
Google’s editor may require individual tools to be installed from within the editing screen. Availability is not identical on every phone: Google says most editing features need Android 8.0 or later and at least 3 GB of RAM, while some functions need 4 GB or 6 GB. Some capabilities are exclusive to Pixel devices. Check the requirements shown in Google Photos Help before promising a particular AI feature.
How to make a quick correction
- Open Google Photos and select the image.
- Tap Edit. If a tool is not installed, follow the prompt in the editor to add it.
- Try a suggested result such as Enhance or Dynamic, or choose the manual controls for crop, perspective, light and color.
- For an unwanted person or object, open Magic Eraser, mark the distraction and review the generated result.
- Save the change. Depending on the edit and your device, Google Photos may offer saving over the original or saving a copy; read the option shown on screen before confirming.
Face touch-up availability
Google’s touch-up rollout adds face-specific Heal, Smooth, Under-eye, Iris, Teeth, Eyebrow and Lip controls. The announcement says the rollout is gradual and requires Android 9.0 or later with at least 4 GB of RAM. Do not assume these controls will appear simply because Google Photos is installed; access can depend on the phone and rollout status. The requirements and rollout details are described in Google’s announcement of the touch-up tools.
Where Google Photos is weaker than Enhance-X
Google documents general enhancement and object cleanup, not a one-for-one list of Samsung’s moiré, shadow and restoration controls. A phone may also lack AI tools because of RAM, Android version or Pixel restrictions. The result is a strong general editor, not proof that every image-restoration feature from Enhance-X is available.

Samsung Gallery: the easiest choice for routine Galaxy edits
If you own a Galaxy phone and only need to make a photo brighter, adjust its color or correct its geometry, Samsung Gallery may be enough. Samsung’s guide documents built-in filters, customizable filters, color mixing and perspective changes, along with other photo and video options. You do not need to move the image to a separate editor or create another library.
Typical Gallery workflow
- Open Gallery and choose the photo.
- Tap the edit icon.
- Try a filter for a quick look, then adjust color or mix individual colors if the image needs more control.
- Use the perspective option when the subject or architecture appears skewed.
- Save the result using the copy or overwrite option presented by your phone.
The names, placement and number of controls vary by Galaxy model and software version. Samsung’s Gallery support guide is the appropriate reference for your device. Gallery is a sensible substitute for everyday editing, but it should not be presented as the same product as Enhance-X: the documented Gallery feature set centers on filters, color and perspective, whereas Enhance-X targets more specialized enhancement.
Galaxy Enhance-X: check compatibility before replacing it
Some readers search for an alternative when Enhance-X is missing or unavailable. Samsung’s current support article lists the app for Galaxy phones running Android 14 and One UI 6.0 or later, distributed through Galaxy Store. It identifies options including Brighten, Sharpen, Restore picture and Increase resolution. Verify your phone against Samsung’s current Enhance-X support information.
An older Samsung Newsroom description explains the intended corrections in more detail: one-tap enhancement, HDR, moiré correction for photographed screens, shadow removal and AI refinement for noise, blur and low detail. Those descriptions explain why Enhance-X remains attractive for a compatible Galaxy, but they do not establish that every listed control appears on every model or software build. The announcement is available at Samsung Newsroom.
If the app is not in Galaxy Store
- Check the phone’s Android version and One UI version in Settings before looking for another editor.
- Install pending system updates, then search Galaxy Store again.
- Confirm that the phone is a Samsung Galaxy model supported by Samsung’s current listing.
- If the device does not meet Android 14 and One UI 6.0 requirements, use Gallery for basic corrections or choose a cross-brand editor such as Google Photos.
Enhance-X’s restoration and resolution tools are enhancement algorithms. They can improve the appearance of an image, but no comparative testing establishes that they can recreate detail that was never captured in the original file.

Snapseed: a cross-brand editor, with details to verify
Snapseed is another Android editing option when you want a separate app rather than a phone-maker gallery. T3 reported an Android update in May 2026 and described availability across phone brands. That supports considering Snapseed for a broad Android audience, but it does not establish the exact current version, price, supported formats or feature parity with Enhance-X.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Before choosing it for a specific job, open the current Android listing and confirm that the tool you need is present, that your phone meets its requirements and that the app exports in a format suitable for your use. Treat Snapseed as an independent editor, not as a documented replacement for Samsung’s moiré, shadow or restoration functions. The May 2026 report is at T3.
Adobe Lightroom: for a more advanced workflow
Adobe Lightroom is worth investigating if your priority is a deeper editing workflow rather than a one-tap fix. Android Central includes Lightroom among Android AI photo-editing options. That makes it a reasonable candidate for readers who want more deliberate control, but the available evidence does not establish current Android pricing, which features are paid, or exactly which AI tools are available on every device.
Check Adobe’s current Android documentation and in-app plan information before committing. Do not assume that a feature shown in a desktop or iOS demonstration is included on Android, or that every tool is available without a subscription. For a single shadow removal or quick crop, Google Photos or Gallery is likely a simpler route; Lightroom makes more sense when you are prepared to organize and refine images in a dedicated editing workflow. Android Central’s roundup is available at Android Central.

Removing a person, sign or other distraction
Start with Google Photos and look for Magic Eraser. Confirm that your phone qualifies for the feature and inspect the result at full size. If the removal creates an obvious smear or removes part of the subject, undo it and try a smaller selection rather than assuming another app will recover the missing background perfectly.

Fixing a dark face or uneven lighting
Try Google Photos’ suggested Enhance or manual brightness and contrast controls. On a compatible Galaxy, Enhance-X’s Brighten option is the more Samsung-specific route. The Google touch-up controls may be unavailable on phones below Android 9.0 or 4 GB RAM, and rollout is gradual.
Correcting a photographed screen’s moiré pattern
Enhance-X is the only option in the supplied feature descriptions that explicitly addresses moiré. If your phone cannot run it, Google Photos, Gallery or another editor may still improve tone and sharpness, but do not describe those tools as guaranteed moiré correction.
Making a blurry or low-detail photo look better
Enhance-X documents Sharpen, Restore picture and Increase resolution, while its earlier description mentions AI refinement for blur and low detail. Google Photos’ enhancement suggestions are a general alternative. Neither source establishes that any app can restore detail absent from the original capture, so inspect the result for invented edges and texture.
Straightening architecture or correcting lens perspective
Google Photos documents perspective adjustment, and Samsung Gallery documents perspective changes. Use the app already holding the image unless you need a specialized enhancement beyond geometry correction.
Recommended Free Tools
Editing without leaving the phone’s existing library
Use Samsung Gallery on a Galaxy or Google Photos if your images are already managed there. This minimizes importing and exporting steps and makes it easier to choose whether to overwrite the original or keep a copy.
Best Value
Compatibility and output checks before you edit
- Android version: Google Photos lists Android 8.0 as the baseline for most editing features; touch-up requires Android 9.0 or later. Enhance-X’s current Samsung listing requires Android 14 and One UI 6.0 or later.
- RAM: Google says most tools need at least 3 GB RAM, with some requiring 4 GB or 6 GB. Touch-up requires at least 4 GB.
- Pixel restrictions: Some Google Photos tools are Pixel-only, so a menu shown in a Pixel tutorial may not appear on another Android phone.
- App installation: Google Photos may ask you to install an individual editing tool from inside the editor. Enhance-X is obtained through Galaxy Store on supported Samsung phones.
- Original versus copy: Google Photos distinguishes saving changes to the original from saving a copy, and the available choice depends on the edit. Read the save dialog.
- Feature rollout: Google’s face touch-up tools are rolling out gradually. Absence of a control does not necessarily indicate a fault.
- Image quality: AI enhancement can alter texture and edges. Keep the original until you have checked the edited image at 100 percent.
Practical decision guide
- Check whether Enhance-X is supported. If your Samsung phone meets Android 14 and One UI 6.0 requirements, it remains the most targeted choice for Samsung’s documented Brighten, Sharpen, Restore picture, Increase resolution, shadow and moiré use cases.
- For a quick, general fix, open Google Photos. It covers crop, perspective, tonal adjustments, suggestions and object cleanup on a wider range of Android devices, subject to version, RAM and Pixel limits.
- For simple Galaxy edits, stay in Gallery. Filters, color mixing and perspective tools may solve the problem without another download.
- For a separate cross-brand editor, investigate Snapseed. Verify its current listing and the exact tools you need.
- For a more involved editing workflow, investigate Lightroom. Confirm current Android capabilities and plan boundaries before paying or moving a large library.
Common problems and fixes
The tool is missing
Check Android version, RAM and phone eligibility first. Google Photos hides or limits some tools by device; Enhance-X depends on Samsung software requirements; touch-up availability is gradual. Updating the operating system and the app may help, but it cannot bypass a Pixel-only or hardware requirement.
The edited image looks artificial
Reduce the strength of the enhancement, select a smaller object area or compare the result with the original. AI tools may smooth skin, sharpen noise or synthesize texture. Keep a copy of the source and avoid overwriting it until the result passes a close inspection.
The result is cropped or distorted
Perspective and crop corrections can remove pixels around the edges. Undo the edit, correct perspective in smaller increments and leave enough margin around the subject. Save a copy when the app offers that choice.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsYou need a feature shown in an online tutorial
Check the tutorial’s phone model, Android version, region and app version. Google’s tool availability varies by Pixel status and memory, Samsung’s menus vary by Galaxy model and software, and secondary reports may describe a rollout that has not reached your phone.
Bottom line
Use Google Photos as the default alternative for broad Android compatibility and quick edits. Use Samsung Gallery for uncomplicated Galaxy adjustments, and keep Galaxy Enhance-X when your compatible Samsung phone specifically needs its documented shadow, moiré, sharpening or restoration-oriented tools. Snapseed is a cross-brand option to verify, while Lightroom is best treated as an advanced workflow candidate rather than a confirmed one-to-one replacement.
