What is happening with GTA 6 on PC?
Rockstar’s current official GTA VI page lists November 19, 2026 as the coming release date and names PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as platforms. A PC version is not listed there. That means a PC release has not been confirmed on the current official page; it is more accurate to call PC availability unlisted than to promise a launch window or assume that a console release date also applies to Windows.
The announced premise is a useful guide to what players are seeking in an alternative: “Vice City, USA,” protagonists Jason and Lucia, an easy score that goes wrong, and a criminal conspiracy stretching across Leonida. The games below cover parts of that fantasy now, but each makes a different trade-off in setting, structure, tone or systems.

1. Grand Theft Auto V: the closest conventional alternative
If your question is simply “What can I play on PC that feels most like GTA 6?”, start with Grand Theft Auto V. Its core loop is the established GTA formula: steal or buy vehicles, move through a large city and surrounding countryside, take on story missions, fight rival criminals and police, and roam between activities without being forced down a single path. - Contemporary setting: Los Santos and Blaine County provide the closest available PC approximation to GTA’s modern American atmosphere, even though the fictional geography and satire differ from Vice City and Leonida.
- Multiple protagonists: switching among its three central characters changes the perspective and mission style while preserving the same shared world.
- Vehicle-first traversal: cars, motorcycles, aircraft and boats make movement itself part of the play loop.
Where it differs from GTA 6
GTA V is an older game than the upcoming sequel, so its systems and presentation cannot represent what GTA VI will eventually add. It also has its own Los Angeles-inspired setting rather than the announced Vice City and Leonida locations. Treat it as the best proven approximation of the series’ structure, not as a preview of unannounced features.
2. Cyberpunk 2077: the best modern-city RPG alternative
Cyberpunk 2077 is the strongest choice when the city matters as much as the crime. PC Gamer describes Night City as an open world where crime syndicates, corporations and AI ghosts compete. The major 2.0 update and the Phantom Liberty expansion add to a game built around character builds, dialogue choices, cybernetic upgrades and branching approaches to combat.

3. Watch Dogs 2: the best hacking-focused alternative
Watch Dogs 2 makes technology the defining part of its open world. Steam’s developer description follows Marcus Holloway, who joins a hacker group intent on exposing corruption in the San Francisco Bay Area. Players explore an open world, complete mission-based objectives, interact with characters and fight criminals and rival gangs.
How its sandbox works
- Remote manipulation: cameras, vehicles, security systems and electronic devices can be turned into tools for scouting or creating distractions.
- Mission experimentation: you can often observe a location, chain hacks and reach an objective without starting a conventional firefight.
- Urban mobility: cars, motorcycles, boats and fast travel connect a recognizable Bay Area map, while drones and other gadgets add a second layer above street level.

Who should pick it
Pick Watch Dogs 2 if the fantasy of outsmarting a city’s infrastructure appeals more than running a traditional criminal empire. Its combat and driving support the hacking systems rather than dominate them. Players who want every encounter to be solved with cars, guns and explosions may find it less direct than GTA V, while stealth and systems-minded players get more ways to improvise.
4. Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition: the best street-level crime drama
Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition is an open-world Hong Kong action adventure centered on Wei Shen, an undercover cop inside the Triads. Steam describes a vibrant neon city whose locations, streets and markets conceal one of the world’s most powerful criminal organizations. The game combines martial arts, gunfights, illegal street races, cars, superbikes and speedboats.
Why its combat stands out
Hand-to-hand fighting is the main differentiator. Wei can chain strikes, counters and environmental attacks in crowded streets, markets and interiors. Firearms and vehicle pursuits broaden the action, but the game’s identity comes from close-quarters martial arts and the tension of maintaining an undercover role.

The Definitive Edition includes all 24 previously released DLC extensions. Steam showed 95% positive from 31,119 English reviews when accessed in 2026. That percentage is a storefront review signal, not a critic score, sales figure or player-count measure; review totals and ratings can change.
Limitations
Hong Kong gives the game a denser, more vertical street environment than GTA’s broad American sprawl, but the activity mix is narrower. Its undercover narrative is more focused, and its melee system carries more weight than free-form gunplay. Choose it for atmosphere, hand-to-hand combat and Triad storytelling rather than for the largest possible catalog of sandbox diversions.
5. Mafia: Definitive Edition: the best grounded mob story
Mafia: Definitive Edition is aimed at players who want organized-crime storytelling above all else. It presents a cinematic narrative about mob life, loyalty and power in a period setting. Missions, driving and shootouts support the story, but the campaign is more linear than GTA’s sandbox and should not be expected to offer equivalent free-form activity density.

If you want to solve problems without shooting everyone
Choose Watch Dogs 2 for hacking, surveillance and remote devices. Cyberpunk 2077 is the better choice if you want stealth and hacking integrated into a broader RPG build rather than presented as a hacker-collective fantasy.
If you want the strongest hand-to-hand combat
