Best Alternatives to Disney’s New Game for Families and Younger Players

Short answer: If you mean Disney Solitaire, SuperPlay’s free-to-play TriPeaks card game for Android and iOS, the best substitute depends on what your family wants beyond Disney characters. Choose Bluey’s Quest for the Gold Pen for a younger child who prefers gentle, character-led exploration; Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe for four-player same-screen co-op; and Super Mario Bros. Wonder for a mixed-skill group that needs beginner-friendly assists. Disney Illusion Island is the closest Disney-branded co-op benchmark, but it is a platform adventure rather than a solitaire game.

The games below are not direct copies of one another. They cover different needs—short card sessions, solo exploration, cooperative platforming and Disney-themed family play—so compare age rating, fantasy-violence intensity, reading and coordination demands, local-player count, platform and purchase features before choosing.

What Disney’s new game is—and what an alternative needs to replace

SuperPlay announced Disney Solitaire on April 17, 2025. It is a free-to-play TriPeaks solitaire game for Android and iOS, with optional purchases. SuperPlay described it as “a fresh twist on the classic TriPeaks Solitaire game, blending timeless card gameplay with the magic of Disney.” That makes it a mobile card-game reference: rounds can be short, controls are simple and the main appeal is familiar Disney characters rather than a shared console adventure.

Because the title “Disney’s new game” can refer to a different release in another country or year, verify the exact game your family has in mind. The recommendations here use Disney Solitaire as the reference point and then broaden the choice for families who want a character-led game, a console experience or simultaneous local play. There is no evidence in the available material of a boxed console edition of Disney Solitaire.

The Walt Disney Company reported in 2026 that Disney Games had driven an estimated $3.5 billion in consumer spend annually for the previous four years and crossed $4 billion in fiscal 2026. The company also reported that 84% of families enjoy seeing familiar characters move between games and video content. Those figures are company-reported rather than independent market research, but they help explain why recognizable characters matter when parents compare family games.

Game Best for Local players Rating and content Key limitation
Bluey’s Quest for the Gold Pen Young children who want a familiar character and gentle exploration Single-player; families can watch and take turns ESRB E for Everyone; puzzles, collecting and character interaction No simultaneous co-op

Super Mario Bros. Wonder Mixed-skill family platforming Up to 4 on one Nintendo Switch ESRB E; mild fantasy violence and in-game purchases Timing-based platforming can still challenge beginners

1. Bluey’s Quest for the Gold Pen: best for a younger child

Bluey’s Quest for the Gold Pen is the strongest choice when the priority is comfort, recognizable characters and low-pressure exploration rather than competition or combat. PM Studios describes an original story by Bluey creator Joe Brumm, nine hand-drawn worlds and travel by boat, bike, jetpack and glider. The publisher also highlights puzzles and easy-to-learn controls, and labels the experience family friendly.

ESRB rates the game E for Everyone. Its rating description focuses on solving puzzles, collecting objects and interacting with characters. That content profile makes it a natural first adventure for a child who may find action games tiring or intimidating. Joe Brumm said, “Bluey has always been about turning small moments into big adventures,” which reflects the game’s emphasis on exploration and imaginative play.

What children actually do

  • Explore nine illustrated worlds rather than replaying a card layout.
  • Solve environmental puzzles and collect items.
  • Use several vehicles and gadgets, including a boat, bike, jetpack and glider.
  • Interact with familiar Bluey characters in an original story.

The important catch: it is not multiplayer

PM Studios identifies Bluey’s Quest for the Gold Pen as single-player. A parent and child can share the experience by watching, discussing choices and taking turns with the controller, but two people cannot control characters simultaneously. Do not buy it expecting four-player co-op.

Platforms and release timing

The publisher lists a May 28, 2026 release on Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Epic Games and Steam. Availability, editions and ratings can vary by territory, so check the store listing for the platform and region you use.

Who should choose it

  • A younger player who already loves Bluey and values familiar characters.
  • A family that prefers puzzles and collecting to combat.
  • Adults who want to supervise or take turns instead of coordinating four controllers.
  • Children who may struggle with fast reactions or dense reading.

2. Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe: best four-player co-op

Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe is the clearest choice when the defining requirement is everyone playing together on one screen. Nintendo supports solo play or up to three friends, for a total of four players on the same system. A free demo is available, which lets a family test the controls and pace before committing to the full game.

ESRB rates it E10+ for Everyone 10+ for fantasy violence and in-game purchases. The rating is higher than Bluey’s E rating because Kirby’s adventure includes more active combat. The violence is fantastical and stylized, but parents should still consider whether their child is comfortable with enemies, attacks and frequent movement.

Why it works for family play

  • Four people can participate locally instead of waiting for a turn.
  • Players can share a level, help with obstacles and learn by observing one another.
  • The same-screen format avoids online matchmaking and voice-chat concerns.
  • The free demo provides a practical way to check whether a younger player can manage the pace.

Trade-offs compared with Bluey

Kirby asks for more coordination: moving, jumping, attacking and reacting to hazards. It is therefore a better substitute for families seeking an activity everyone can play together, but a less gentle first game for a child who wants quiet exploration. The E10+ rating and fantasy-violence descriptor should be part of the decision, not an afterthought.

Best fit

Choose Kirby when two to four family members want active participation, the children can handle cartoon combat and the household plays on Nintendo Switch. If the youngest child is not ready for action, use the demo first or let that child watch and join selected sections.

3. Super Mario Bros. Wonder: best for mixed-skill groups

Super Mario Bros. Wonder supports up to four players locally on one Nintendo Switch and carries an ESRB E for Everyone rating with mild fantasy violence and in-game purchases. Its platforming is more timing-dependent than Bluey’s puzzle exploration, but it includes unusually helpful options for uneven groups.

  • Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)

  • Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.

Built-in safety nets for beginners

  • Yoshi and Nabbit do not take damage. A beginner can still make mistakes without losing health in the usual way.
  • Another player can revive someone who loses a life. A stronger player can keep the group moving instead of leaving a younger child behind.
  • Up to four players share one system. The family does not need multiple consoles for local play.

These features do not remove every challenge. Jump timing, moving platforms and changing level conditions can still frustrate a very young player. However, the game is a strong compromise when older children want a real platformer and younger players need protection from repeated failure.

When Mario is a better choice than Kirby

Pick Super Mario Bros. Wonder when the group has a wide range of abilities or when a child benefits from damage immunity. Kirby offers four-player co-op as well, but its E10+ rating and fantasy combat may be less suitable for a younger sibling. Mario’s E rating and Yoshi/Nabbit options make it easier to build one session around different comfort levels.

4. Disney Illusion Island: the Disney co-op benchmark

Disney Illusion Island is useful when the family wants Disney characters and cooperative platforming rather than a mobile card game. The ESRB parent guide describes it as co-op-friendly and identifies it as a candidate for family game night. It is not the same game or premise as Disney Solitaire, so treat it as a comparison point for Disney-style shared play, not as a direct replacement for TriPeaks rules.

Check the child, not just the brand

The ESRB guide recommends checking gameplay videos and reviews when younger children may struggle with jumping and coordination. A familiar character does not automatically make every mechanic easy. Before buying, watch enough gameplay to judge the speed of movement, precision required and whether the child can follow the objectives.

Use household controls

Use the console or account’s parental controls to manage rating limits, play time, online interaction and spending. The same checks are sensible for any game with online features or in-game purchases, including the E10+ Kirby and E-rated Mario listings.

How the choices differ from Disney Solitaire

This comparison shows why there is no single universal winner. A family replacing the feel of quick, low-commitment card rounds may prefer to keep Disney Solitaire and add a console game for shared sessions. A family replacing the Disney character appeal may find Bluey or a Disney platformer more important than matching the rules.

Choose by age, ability and play pattern

For a preschool or early-primary child who needs gentle play

Start with Bluey’s Quest for the Gold Pen. Its E rating, puzzle-and-collect structure and easy-to-learn controls reduce the pressure of combat and precision. Plan for turn-taking because the game is single-player.

For siblings who must play at the same time

Choose Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe or Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Both support four players on one Switch. Kirby is the more overtly action-oriented option; Mario provides Yoshi, Nabbit and revival features that can cushion mistakes.

For a mixed-age group with one confident player and one beginner

Super Mario Bros. Wonder is usually the more flexible starting point because the damage-free characters and revival mechanic let the experienced player assist without taking complete control. Test a level together before deciding whether the younger player enjoys the timing demands.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a family that insists on Disney characters

Use Disney Illusion Island as the Disney-branded co-op option, while remembering that it has a different structure from solitaire. If the child mainly wants Disney recognition and independent, low-pressure play, Disney Solitaire may still be the closer match.

For a child who dislikes losing

Prefer Bluey’s puzzle-and-exploration format or Mario with Yoshi or Nabbit. Kirby’s combat and E10+ rating deserve more caution when repeated attacks or failures are likely to cause distress.

A practical buying checklist

  1. Confirm the exact game and platform. Check whether the child means Disney Solitaire on Android or iOS, or another Disney release. For console choices, verify the family’s hardware, including whether it is an original Switch or Switch 2.
  2. Set the content boundary. Compare the ESRB label with the child’s sensitivity to fantasy violence. Bluey and Mario are E-rated; Kirby is E10+ for fantasy violence and in-game purchases.
  3. Count controllers and players. Bluey is single-player. Kirby supports one to four people on one Switch, and Mario supports up to four. Do not confuse family viewing with simultaneous co-op.
  4. Estimate coordination and reading demands. Puzzle exploration is different from timing jumps and combat. Watch gameplay for the Disney platformer before deciding for a very young child.
  5. Check spending controls. Disney Solitaire is free-to-play with optional purchases; ESRB lists in-game purchases for Kirby and Mario. Set account spending limits and require approval before purchases.
  6. Use a trial when available. Kirby has a free demo. Let the youngest player try it while an adult observes frustration, control reach and whether the pace is manageable.
  7. Plan the social format. For Bluey, decide how turns will work. For four-player games, agree on controller roles and a pause signal so a younger player can ask for help.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Calling Bluey multiplayer. It is single-player, even though a family can enjoy shared viewing and turn-taking.
  • Assuming a Disney license guarantees simple play. Disney Illusion Island still requires jumping and coordination; check gameplay for the child’s ability level.
  • Comparing ratings without reading descriptors. E and E10+ communicate different thresholds, and the fantasy-violence and in-game-purchase notes matter.
  • Buying for the number of players alone. Four-player support helps only if the children can manage the controls and the family has enough compatible controllers.
  • Ignoring regional listings. ESRB applies to the U.S. rating system. Platform availability, labels and store editions can change by territory and over time.
  • Leaving purchases unmanaged. Free-to-play and in-game-purchase features should be paired with account controls, spending approvals and a play-time plan.

Bottom-line recommendations

Choose Bluey’s Quest for the Gold Pen when a younger child’s comfort, recognizable characters and gentle exploration matter most. Accept that the family will take turns rather than play together at once.

Choose Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe when four people need a shared adventure on one Switch and the group is comfortable with fantasy combat and an E10+ rating.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose Super Mario Bros. Wonder for the broadest mixed-skill compromise: four-player local play, an E rating, damage-free Yoshi and Nabbit, and a revive option for players who lose a life.

Choose Disney Illusion Island only after checking the current rating, gameplay and coordination demands. It is the most relevant Disney co-op benchmark, but it does not recreate the short TriPeaks-card sessions of Disney Solitaire.
