Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →For everyday listening, compare the Sony WF-C710N for everyday noise cancellation and spatial-audio features, the Technics EAH-AZ80 as a premium alternative to the Melomania M100, and the Anker Soundcore Liberty 4 Pro as a lower-cost option. The right choice depends on which Cambridge Audio model you mean: the M100 and A100 have different designs and priorities, and the A100 SE is a separate revision with its own review findings.
First, identify which Cambridge Audio earbuds you are comparing
“Cambridge Audio earbuds” can refer to more than one model. Cambridge says the Melomania M100 and A100 share Class AB amplification, adaptive active noise cancellation (ANC), aptX Lossless support and app support, but differ in shape and feature emphasis. The M100 has a traditional earbud shape and prioritizes battery life. The A100 uses a lighter stem design, has an IPX5 rating, and adds DynamEQ and improved microphone performance. Cambridge describes the A100 as a complement to the M100, not a replacement, in its FAQ.

The A100 SE is a further revision; do not assume every specification or review comment about the A100 applies unchanged to it. A TechRadar review of the A100 SE describes an open presentation and comfort during long listening sessions, while noting that its touch controls were less reliable than the reviewer wanted. Those are that reviewer’s impressions, not a guarantee of how the earbuds will fit or behave for every listener.

| Model | Why consider it | Trade-off or qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Sony WF-C710N | A relevant everyday comparison if ANC and spatial-audio features matter. | ANC and battery comparisons depend on the specific review and test context; confirm local price and availability. |
| Technics EAH-AZ80 | A premium alternative to the M100, with a more premium build according to SoundGuys. | SoundGuys reports similar ANC performance to the M100 and less battery life in its comparison. |
| Anker Soundcore Liberty 4 Pro | A lower-cost alternative named by SoundGuys, whose review speaks positively of its sound and ANC. | SoundGuys’ price is historical, not a current price quote. |
| Huawei FreeBuds Pro 5 | TechRadar’s April 2026 guide update says this model took the guide’s “best mid-range” place previously held by the Cambridge Audio Melomania A100. | A guide category is an editorial choice, not a universal head-to-head verdict; availability varies by geography. |
| Nothing Ear (a) | Included in TechRadar’s roundup as another option to consider. | Check the generation carefully: the guide notes that the newer Ear (3) costs almost twice as much. |
Want stronger everyday ANC or spatial audio?
The Sony WF-C710N is a sensible place to start if commuting or working in a shared space makes noise cancellation a priority. Tom’s Guide says the Sony’s ANC algorithm is stronger than the A100’s at the A100’s price point, while TechRadar’s roundup cites spatial-audio support for the Sony. ANC effectiveness varies with ear-tip seal, fit and the reviewer’s test conditions, so treat that comparison as a useful pointer rather than a guarantee that Sony will cancel more noise for every listener.
#1 Best Overall
- 10mm deep bass drivers
- aptX Lossless
- Up to 39 hours battery
- Adaptive Active Noise Cancelling
- Wireless Charging
TechRadar also cites 7.5 hours for the WF-C710N and 5.5 hours for the Cambridge model discussed in that particular comparison. Those figures are tied to the models and conditions in the guide; they are not a universal battery test or a case-inclusive runtime comparison. Check the guide’s exact model and battery-test context before using those numbers to make a purchase decision.
Want a premium alternative to the M100?
SoundGuys names the Technics EAH-AZ80 as a premium alternative to the Melomania M100. It describes the Technics as having a more premium build, with ANC performance similar to the M100 in its comparison, but less battery life. That makes it a plausible step-up candidate if build quality is more important to you than maximizing time away from the charging case; the source does not establish that it is a better fit or better-sounding choice for every listener.

Looking for a lower-cost comparison?
SoundGuys identifies the Anker Soundcore Liberty 4 Pro as a cheaper alternative and speaks positively about its sound and noise cancellation. The article’s price should be treated as historical: earbuds pricing changes by region and retailer, so compare current local listings rather than relying on an old review figure.

How to choose for your own daily use
Start with fit and shape
The M100 has a traditional bud shape, while the A100 has a compact stem. Shape alone cannot predict comfort: tip fit and ear shape affect stability, isolation and how long you can wear a pair comfortably. If possible, buy from a retailer with a suitable return policy, especially if you are switching between these designs.

- 100-Hour Battery Life
- DynamEQ - Dynamic Adaptive Equalisation
- aptX Lossless
- Adaptive Active Noise Cancelling
Match battery figures to your routine
Cambridge lists the M100 at up to 16 hours per earbud and up to 52 hours total with ANC off, or up to 10 hours per earbud and up to 33 hours total with ANC on. These are Cambridge Audio’s stated maximums, not guaranteed real-world runtimes; actual results depend on use and conditions. For any alternative, compare earbud runtime separately from case-inclusive runtime, and check whether the figure assumes ANC on or off.
Consider sound and codec support together
Cambridge lists aptX Lossless support for the M100 and A100, but codec support matters only when your source device and listening setup can use it. Choose based on the sound presentation you prefer and the devices you own rather than treating codec names as a standalone measure of sound quality.

Check calls, controls and app options
If you take frequent calls, microphone performance may matter more than a small difference in advertised battery life. The A100 is described by Cambridge as having improved microphones relative to the M100. Also consider whether you prefer touch or physical controls and whether the app gives you useful EQ or other adjustments; the A100 SE reviewer’s concerns about touch-control reliability are one reviewer’s experience, not a measured failure rate.

Choose water resistance for the exposure you expect
Cambridge lists the M100 as IPX4 and the A100 as IPX5. These are model-specific ratings, not a promise that either pair is waterproof; check the rating of the exact version you plan to buy and follow its care guidance.
Verify current price and availability
Prices, stock and model lineups can change by retailer and country. Check current local listings for the exact model and revision—particularly for the A100 SE, Huawei FreeBuds Pro 5 and Nothing Ear (a)—before comparing value.

Start with the Sony WF-C710N if everyday ANC and spatial-audio support are high on your list. Consider the Technics EAH-AZ80 if you want a more premium-built alternative to the M100 and accept the battery-life trade-off described by SoundGuys. Look at the Soundcore Liberty 4 Pro if you want a lower-cost comparison. If you are comparing against an A100 or A100 SE, also weigh its stem fit, microphone priorities and revision-specific details rather than assuming the M100 is the same baseline.
