Short answer: LSEG Workspace AI Search is the closest substitute for Bloomberg ASKB when you want plain-English questions answered with market data, filings, Reuters News, analytics and citations. AlphaSense is the better choice for broad document research, private-company diligence and internal knowledge. S&P Capital IQ Pro is strongest for AI-assisted filings, reports and sector intelligence, especially energy and commodities.

The right choice depends less on a chatbot demo than on evidence coverage, traceability, follow-up analysis, workflow integration and commercial access. The comparison below explains where each platform fits, what it can substantiate, and how to test it before committing to an institutional subscription.

What Bloomberg ASKB sets as the baseline

Bloomberg describes ASKB as a conversational AI interface inside existing Terminal workflows. It is designed to answer natural-language questions using Bloomberg data, documents, news, research and analytics, while showing attribution and direct links to source documents. Bloomberg also describes AI-powered summaries over stories from more than 30,000 sources. A Bloomberg Professional Services page captured during the product’s beta period described ASKB in those terms; its availability and feature set should be confirmed for your organization.

That baseline has five practical requirements:

  • Grounded answers: the model should draw from licensed financial content rather than general web text.
  • Traceability: every material statement should lead to the underlying filing, article, transcript, dataset or research note.
  • Financial context: the system should understand instruments, issuers, periods, estimates, corporate actions and market conventions.
  • Analysis after retrieval: users need comparisons, screens, calculations, charts or tables, not only summaries.
  • Workflow continuity: analysts should be able to refine a question and move the result into the tools where they work.

The alternatives below meet those requirements in different ways. None should be treated as an interchangeable terminal without checking the exact content licenses, regional availability, permissions and data entitlements included in your contract.

LSEG Workspace AI Search: the closest direct workflow alternative

LSEG announced Workspace AI Search in July 2026. It lets financial professionals ask questions in natural language and receive fast, verifiable answers with transparent citations. Its distinguishing feature is the combination of conversational search with the data an analyst normally needs to validate an answer: LSEG market data and filings, Reuters News, deals, aftermarket research and LSEG analytics.

What you can do

  • Screen markets: turn a qualitative question into a search or screening task across available market data.
  • Compare companies or datasets: ask for side-by-side comparisons rather than opening each record manually.
  • Summarize documents: use filings, news or research as the source material for a concise brief.
  • Analyze trends: ask the system to connect movements in data with relevant documents and news.
  • Create charts and tables: have the answer organized into a form that can be reviewed or reused.
  • Continue the conversation: refine a result with follow-up questions instead of starting over.

Why it is the nearest ASKB substitute

LSEG’s design maps closely to a terminal-centered workflow: a user starts with a plain-English question, receives an answer tied to financial sources, then narrows the scope or changes the comparison. Reuters News adds a large reporting archive to the market-data and filings context, while citations make it possible to inspect the evidence behind a statement.

For example, an analyst could begin with a request to compare two companies’ recent operating trends, ask a follow-up about the period or metric, and then request a table or chart. The important qualification is that the usefulness of each answer depends on the specific LSEG entitlements attached to the organization’s Workspace account.

Access and integration

LSEG says AI Search is available in LSEG Workspace and LSEG Workspace in Microsoft Teams. Availability in Microsoft 365 Copilot is planned, not established as generally available in the announcement. If Teams is central to your research process, test the same prompts in the Workspace interface and the Teams experience; permissions, formatting and source visibility may differ by deployment.

Best fit and trade-offs

Choose LSEG first when your priority is cited answers that combine Reuters reporting, filings, market data and analytics in one conversational workflow. It is less clearly differentiated for organizations whose main problem is searching a very large private document repository or combining external research with extensive internal files; AlphaSense is positioned more directly for that use case.

AlphaSense: strongest for document-heavy research and internal knowledge

AlphaSense presents a workflow that spans initial exploration, deep diligence, ongoing monitoring, generative search, deep research, enterprise intelligence, financial data and workflow agents. Its product page states that its library contains more than 500 million premium documents. That scale matters when the answer is distributed across filings, transcripts, broker research, industry material, expert content and a company’s own files rather than a single news feed.

Generative Search

Generative Search is described as reasoning across qualitative insights, structured financial data and internal knowledge. In practice, that positioning addresses a common research failure: an analyst finds an external fact but cannot connect it to the organization’s prior work, deal documents or internal thesis. A pilot should therefore include questions that require both public and internal evidence, with permissions configured exactly as they would be in production.

Deep Research agents

AlphaSense says its Deep Research agents produce comprehensive research outputs and investment-grade briefings. This is a deeper workflow than asking for a single paragraph. Evaluate whether the generated brief identifies the relevant documents, preserves conflicting evidence and lets a reviewer trace each important conclusion back to its source.

Deliverables and monitoring

  • PowerPoint and Excel add-ins: the product page identifies add-ins for turning research into common investment and corporate-finance deliverables.
  • Monitoring: ongoing monitoring is part of the stated workflow, useful for tracking companies, themes or competitors after the initial diligence.
  • Workflow agents: agents are presented as a way to automate repeatable research tasks rather than only answer one-off questions.

Best fit and trade-offs

AlphaSense is the strongest candidate for investment banking, private equity, asset management, corporate strategy and research teams that need broad document discovery and internal-knowledge integration. Its center of gravity is research intelligence rather than a one-for-one replacement for every terminal function. Confirm which structured financial datasets, news sources and internal repositories are included in your edition before comparing it with a market-data-first service.

S&P Capital IQ Pro: focused AI document and sector intelligence

S&P Global’s Capital IQ Pro page highlights AI-powered Document Intelligence that extracts insights from thousands of articles and reports. This is useful when the analyst already knows the relevant document universe but needs to identify facts, themes or signals faster than manual reading allows.

Where it stands out

  • Reports and articles: Document Intelligence is explicitly positioned for extracting insights from a large body of published material.
  • Energy and commodities: proprietary S&P Global Energy news and research cover the global energy and commodities value chain.
  • Fundamental and corporate-finance work: the platform is a natural candidate for teams working with filings, reports, transcripts and sector intelligence.

Best fit and trade-offs

Choose Capital IQ Pro when the research question depends on fundamental company analysis or specialized sector coverage, especially energy and commodities. The public description does not establish the same conversational follow-up, internal-knowledge search or collaboration features documented for the other alternatives, so make those explicit acceptance criteria in a demonstration.

How the platforms differ on the decisions that matter

1. Content breadth

Start by listing the evidence your analysts actually use: proprietary news, regulatory filings, earnings transcripts, broker research, deal information, market series, sector reports and internal documents. LSEG’s stated mix is strongest for market data, filings, Reuters News, deals and aftermarket research. AlphaSense emphasizes a very large premium-document library plus internal knowledge. Capital IQ Pro emphasizes document extraction and S&P Global’s energy and commodities intelligence. Bloomberg ASKB remains the reference point for Bloomberg’s own data, research and news corpus.

2. Answer traceability

A fluent answer is not an auditable answer. Require visible citations or direct source links for every material conclusion, and check whether a reviewer can open the exact document, article or data record. LSEG explicitly promises transparent citations; Bloomberg describes transparent attribution and direct links; AlphaSense’s research workflow is designed around its document corpus. For Capital IQ Pro, verify how Document Intelligence exposes the underlying article or report in your licensed environment.

3. Conversational depth

Test a chain of questions, not a single prompt. Begin with a broad question, narrow the date range, change the peer set, ask for the supporting evidence and request a table. LSEG explicitly supports follow-up questions. AlphaSense emphasizes generative search and Deep Research agents. The public Capital IQ Pro description confirms AI extraction but does not establish an equivalent conversational sequence.

4. Analytics and output

Decide whether your users need screening, company comparisons, trend analysis, calculated metrics, charts, tables or narrative briefings. LSEG documents screening, comparisons, trend analysis, charts and tables. AlphaSense documents research outputs plus PowerPoint and Excel add-ins. Capital IQ Pro’s documented strength is extracting insights from articles and reports. Do not infer that an advertised summary feature includes a particular calculation, export format or data entitlement.

5. Workflow integration

Map each answer to its destination: a terminal screen, Teams conversation, Excel model, PowerPoint deck, internal knowledge base or monitoring alert. LSEG identifies Workspace and Teams, with Copilot availability planned. AlphaSense identifies PowerPoint and Excel add-ins and internal-knowledge integration. Other integrations, APIs and export controls should be confirmed in writing for the edition you are evaluating.

6. Audience and access model

These are professional financial-data services, not casual consumer chatbots. Confirm user counts, permission groups, regional content rights, audit requirements, administrator controls and whether a demo or sales process is required. The reviewed official pages do not publish comparable public pricing, so a lower headline cost cannot be established from them.

A practical selection framework

  1. Choose LSEG Workspace AI Search if your decisive requirement is a Bloomberg-like question-and-answer workflow over Reuters News, filings, market data and analytics with citations.
  2. Choose AlphaSense if the decisive requirement is searching a massive premium-document corpus, combining external research with internal knowledge, and producing diligence or monitoring outputs.
  3. Choose S&P Capital IQ Pro if the decisive requirement is AI extraction from articles and reports, with particular value from energy and commodities research.
  4. Keep Bloomberg ASKB as the benchmark when your team already depends on Bloomberg Terminal data, research and source-linked workflows, and you are testing whether a replacement can preserve those dependencies.

If two platforms appear close, let the evidence set decide: run the same issuer, period, peer-group and sector questions through both, then score source coverage and review time rather than prose quality alone.

How to run a fair pilot

Build a representative prompt set

  • One current-events question requiring news and a cited source.
  • One filing question requiring an exact period, accounting line or disclosed risk.
  • One peer comparison requiring consistent definitions across companies.
  • One trend question requiring a time range and a chart or table.
  • One diligence question requiring several documents and a treatment of conflicting evidence.
  • One internal-knowledge question, if internal repositories are in scope.

Score the evidence, not just the wording

  1. Record whether the answer addresses the requested period, geography, instrument and metric.
  2. Open every citation and check that it actually supports the sentence attached to it.
  3. Measure how many manual corrections are needed before the result can enter a memo, model or presentation.
  4. Ask a follow-up that changes one assumption and see whether the system preserves context.
  5. Test access controls with a document that some users should not see.
  6. Capture response time and failure cases under the same network and account conditions; do not generalize from a single demonstration.

Ask procurement for the missing facts

Request current pricing, included data entitlements, user and usage limits, regional availability, retention and audit policies, security documentation, support terms, export options and any restrictions on using generated outputs in client work. Public pages reviewed for these products do not provide a complete comparison of those items.

Common pitfalls

Confusing a summary with analysis

A concise paragraph can omit a denominator, period or exception. Require the original source, the definition of each metric and a way to inspect the supporting passage or data record.

Assuming every plan has the same corpus

News, filings, transcripts, broker research, sector reports and internal files may be separately licensed. Validate the exact entitlements attached to the proposed contract.

Ignoring follow-up behavior

Many real tasks involve changing a date, peer set or materiality threshold. A tool that performs well only on the opening prompt will create rework.

Comparing promotional language with production evidence

Terms such as “investment-grade” or “fast” describe positioning, not an independent benchmark. Use your own prompt set and document review process.

Skipping governance

Financial answers may enter client communications, investment committees or regulated records. Define who can access source material, how outputs are retained and where a human must approve the final analysis.

Bottom line

LSEG Workspace AI Search is the most direct Bloomberg ASKB alternative for cited, conversational financial-news and market-data research. AlphaSense is the better fit for document-heavy diligence and internal intelligence, while S&P Capital IQ Pro is compelling for AI-assisted reports and specialized energy or commodities coverage. Make the decision with a controlled pilot and current vendor quotes, because public pages do not establish comparable price, speed, accuracy or worldwide availability.
