For dependable, separately mixed project tracks, an Akai MPC (including MPC Live III) is the strongest documented Bento alternative. Choose Synthstrom Audible Deluge if portable, performance-first sampling matters and you can verify its current stem-export firmware; choose Roland SP-404MKII when WAV files for each pad in a pattern are enough. Bento remains a capable live-loop workstation, but its documented single-track method is to mute the other tracks and render, rather than batch-export independently selected tracks.

First define “stems.” A complete song mix, one file per sequencer track, and one file per sampler pad are different deliverables. The right replacement depends on which of those files your mixing, collaboration, or performance workflow actually requires.

What “stem export” should mean for your workflow

Manufacturers and musicians use stem inconsistently. Before comparing hardware, decide which output you need:

Deliverable What you receive Best fit among these devices
Full mix One stereo WAV containing the entire song, including the balance and effects chosen in the device. Bento, MPC, Deluge, or SP-404MKII, depending on the export function and pattern/song setup.
Separate project tracks One audio file per sequencer or arrangement track, ready for mixing in a DAW. Akai MPC has the clearest manufacturer-documented workflow. Bento can render one track at a time by muting the others.
Pad stems One WAV for every pad used by a selected pattern or phrase. Roland SP-404MKII’s documented MULTIPAD EXPORT.

Track stems preserve an arrangement’s timeline; pad stems generally preserve separate pad performances from a pattern. Neither automatically gives you the other. Also check whether a device includes insert effects, master effects, tails, normalization, or silence trimming, because those choices change how useful the files are for later mixing.

Quick comparison: Bento alternatives for live sampling and export

Device Live sampling and performance model Documented export scope Important qualification
1010music Bento Eight flexible tracks, scenes, real-time loop launching, external audio recording, clock-synchronized loops, threshold-triggered recording, immediate playback, and master resampling. Song render; a single-track render by muting every other track in Mixer. Firmware 1.4.7 notes describe mute-and-render rather than batch track export. The downloads page listed firmware 1.5.32 in July 2026; confirm whether later releases changed export behavior.
Akai MPC hardware (such as MPC Live III) Clip, sequence, and song-based MPC workflow with extensive audio and MIDI production controls. Separate audio files for each project track in MPC 2; “separate tracks” in MPC 3. Akai says separate tracks are unavailable in Song mode on MPC 3. Model and MPC software version determine the menu names.
Synthstrom Audible Deluge Portable standalone synthesizer, sequencer, and sampler designed for creation, performance, and improvisation. A community guide describes song-level EXPORT STEMS with configurable normalization, export-to-silence, song effects, and offline rendering. The stem-export instructions are community documentation, not a manufacturer guarantee. Verify firmware and configuration before relying on them.
Roland SP-404MKII Pad- and pattern-centered sampling and performance. MULTIPAD EXPORT writes a WAV stem for each pad in a selected pattern to the SD card’s EXPORT folder. This is pad-level export, not evidence of general multitrack song export.

1010music Bento: the baseline you are replacing

1010music describes Bento as a portable sampling production lab with eight flexible tracks. Track types include sample-bank, multisample, slicer, granular, and external MIDI options. Scenes, effects, multiple stereo inputs and outputs, MIDI, USB-C, and an internal battery support a compact performance rig. The product description also covers recording external audio, synchronizing loop recording to clock, threshold-triggered recording, playing a recording immediately, and resampling the master output. See the official Bento product page for the feature list.

What Bento does well for live capture

  • Clock-synchronized loop recording lets an incoming phrase land in the project’s timing grid.
  • Threshold triggering can start a recording when the input crosses a chosen level, useful when your hands are busy performing.
  • Immediate playback turns a captured phrase into a playable part without a separate transfer step.
  • Master-output resampling lets you capture a performance or layered arrangement as new audio.

These are meaningful advantages if your priority is capturing and manipulating sound during a set rather than preparing a finished multitrack session for a DAW.

Bento firmware and export behavior

The 1010music downloads page listed Bento firmware 1.5.32, dated July 2026, with 1.5 features including step sequencing, USB audio and MIDI, loop groups, XY effects, and WAV copy/paste. Firmware pages change, so check the current listing for your unit before following any procedure.

The official Bento 1.4.7 release notes say song export plays the song and saves the rendered file in the project folder on the microSD card. To create a file for one track, the documented method is:

  1. Open the project’s Mixer.
  2. Mute every track except the one you want.
  3. Use the song-export procedure so Bento renders the song with those Mixer settings.
  4. Find the resulting audio file in the project folder on the microSD card.

That workflow is a mute-and-render pass. It is not a batch command that independently selects and exports all tracks. The same release notes warn that Bento does not ask for confirmation before overwriting a file with the same name, so use distinct filenames or copy earlier renders off the card.

Akai MPC: the strongest choice for separate project-track files

If “sampler that can export stems” means one aligned audio file per sequencer track, MPC hardware has the clearest manufacturer-documented answer in this comparison. Akai’s Export Individual Tracks instructions cover both MPC 2 and MPC 3, but the labels differ.

MPC 2 workflow

  1. Open the project you want to print.
  2. Choose Save Audio Mixdown.
  3. Enable the explode tracks option so each project track is written as its own audio file.
  4. Set the file format, bit depth, and sample rate required by your receiving DAW.
  5. Run the export and inspect the resulting files for alignment, effects, and tails before deleting the project.

MPC 3 workflow

  1. Open the project in MPC 3.
  2. Choose Audio Mixdown.
  3. Select separate tracks.
  4. Choose the desired format, bit depth, and sample rate.
  5. Export, then verify that every expected track has a file and that the files begin at a common timeline position.

Akai explicitly notes that separate-track export is not available in Song mode on MPC 3. If your arrangement is built there, switch to a supported project view or render the required material by another method. Do not assume that an MPC 2 instruction will appear unchanged on an MPC 3 touchscreen.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Which MPC version should you verify?

The Akai MPC firmware downloads page listed MPC Live III among supported Gen 2 devices and showed MPC 3.9.1 at the time of the cited information. Firmware and supported-device lists are volatile; confirm the exact model, operating system, and desktop software version before purchasing or planning a session. MPC is the most defensible recommendation when separately exporting project tracks is the deciding requirement, provided its software workflow fits how you arrange songs.

Synthstrom Audible Deluge: portable performance sampler with a firmware check

Synthstrom Audible describes Deluge as “our flagship product” and as an all-in-one, stand-alone, portable synthesizer, sequencer, and sampler designed for creating, performing, and improvising electronic music. That positioning makes it a credible Bento alternative for musicians who value a self-contained performance instrument and flexible sequencing.

Stem export evidence and limits

A community Deluge documentation page describes an EXPORT STEMS menu in Song and Arranger views. The guide lists controls for normalization, exporting to silence, including song effects, and offline rendering. Those options suggest a practical song-level stem workflow, including the ability to decide whether effect tails and silence are retained.

Because this procedure is community-maintained rather than a manufacturer support article, treat it as a capability to verify, not a guarantee. Check the firmware installed on the intended Deluge, reproduce the menu path on that version, and confirm that the export produces the number and timing of files your DAW requires. If a project depends on stems for a deadline, make a short test song before committing to the device.

When Deluge is the better Bento alternative

  • You want a battery-friendly, standalone instrument centered on improvisation and live arrangement.
  • You prefer building and performing a song inside the hardware rather than relying on a computer during the set.
  • You can accept a firmware-verification step for stem export and are comfortable confirming options such as normalization and song effects yourself.

Roland SP-404MKII: choose it for pad-level WAV files

The SP-404MKII is a strong fit when your source material is organized as pads and patterns and you need one audio file per pad. Roland’s reference manual documents MULTIPAD EXPORT: select a pattern, then export the phrase so the unit writes a WAV stem for each pad to the SD card’s EXPORT folder.

What MULTIPAD EXPORT gives you

  • A separate WAV for each pad in the selected pattern or phrase.
  • Files stored on the SD card, making transfer to a computer straightforward.
  • A workflow suited to chopping, one-shots, loops, and pad performances that you want to mix or rearrange later.

Do not interpret this feature as general song-wide track export. A pad file represents the pad-level material defined by the pattern; it is not automatically an independently rendered sequencer track with every arrangement lane and master effect separated. If your engineer asks for “drums, bass, synth, and vocals” as four timeline-aligned files, confirm that your pad organization actually maps to those deliverables or choose hardware with project-track export.

Choose the right Bento alternative by the job

Choose MPC when the mix engineer needs separate tracks

Select an MPC when your non-negotiable output is one audio file per project track. Akai documents the export controls, audio format choices, and the MPC 3 Song mode limitation. This is the most direct path from a standalone sampler/workstation project to a DAW mixing session.

Choose Deluge when performance and portability come first

Select Deluge when the instrument itself is the center of a live, improvisational set and you are willing to verify the current stem-export implementation. Its documented product identity emphasizes portable creation, performance, and improvisation; its export instructions require an extra firmware check because the detailed guide is community-authored.

Choose SP-404MKII when pads are your production units

Select SP-404MKII when you think in pads and patterns and need pad-by-pad WAVs. It is a precise solution for that deliverable, but it should not be sold as a replacement for a full multitrack arrangement exporter.

Keep Bento when live looping is the main requirement

Keep Bento in consideration if synchronized capture, threshold recording, immediate playback, scenes, and resampling matter more than one-click multitrack export. Its eight flexible tracks and multiple audio connections make it a closer fit than a generic groovebox for live sampling. Plan for mute-and-render passes when you need individual track files, and verify the behavior on the firmware currently installed.

Export planning checklist

Use this checklist before buying hardware or starting a recording:

  • Name the deliverable: full stereo mix, separate project tracks, or one WAV per pad.
  • Define the timeline: ask whether every file must start at bar 1 and remain the full song length.
  • Decide on effects: determine whether insert effects, song/master effects, normalization, and reverb or delay tails belong in the exported files.
  • Record the software state: write down the hardware model, firmware version, and MPC desktop/standalone version used to create the files.
  • Protect source material: copy the project and samples before exporting; on Bento, avoid duplicate filenames because the cited release notes warn of overwrite without a confirmation prompt.
  • Test a short project: export two or three tracks or pads, import them into the target DAW, and check start points, sample rate, bit depth, silence, and effect tails.

Common failure modes and fixes

The exported file is only a stereo mix

You selected a normal song render rather than a separate-track or pad-export function. Recheck the device’s export mode: MPC requires explode tracks in MPC 2 or separate tracks in MPC 3; SP-404MKII requires MULTIPAD EXPORT; Bento’s documented single-track approach requires muting the other tracks first.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Track files are missing from an MPC project

Check whether the project is in MPC 3 Song mode, where Akai says separate tracks are unavailable. Move the material into a supported project context or use an alternative render strategy, then confirm the software and firmware versions.

Deluge does not show EXPORT STEMS

Verify the installed firmware and consult the current community instructions for that version. The cited guide is not a manufacturer guarantee, so do not assume every menu or option exists on every release. Test with a small song before relying on the feature.

Bento renders the wrong track

Open Mixer, mute all tracks except the intended one, and repeat song export. Because the documented method follows Mixer settings, an overlooked unmuted track will be included. Use a new filename or back up the project to avoid Bento’s reported overwrite behavior.

Pad stems do not match the requested mix stems

SP-404MKII’s MULTIPAD EXPORT produces one WAV per pad in the selected pattern. Reorganize pads so they represent the parts your collaborator needs, or use MPC-style project-track export when the arrangement itself—not the pads—is the required unit.

Bottom line for a Bento replacement

There is no universal winner because live sampling and stem export describe different jobs. For manufacturer-documented, separate project-track files, choose an Akai MPC and observe the MPC 3 Song mode restriction. For a portable performance sampler, Deluge is compelling if its current firmware exposes the community-documented stem workflow. For pad-by-pad WAVs, SP-404MKII is the precise option. Bento remains the sensible choice when synchronized live capture, looping, scenes, and resampling outweigh the convenience of automated multitrack export.
