If you want to spend less than the current $499 Google Pixel 10a retail price, the Samsung Galaxy A17 5G is the clearest lower-cost new-phone option in the available comparisons: Engadget lists it from $200. For a larger screen with a stylus, consider the Motorola Moto G Stylus (2025), which Android Authority lists at $399.99 and says sometimes sells below $300. Neither is an automatic Pixel replacement: compare live prices, camera priorities, software support and carrier compatibility before you buy.
“Cheapest Pixel” depends on the deal, not just the newest model. Android Authority’s 2026 guide lists the Pixel 10a at $499 retail and reports that the older Pixel 9a was often discounted to $399. A sale, carrier offer, trade-in or financing deal can change which phone is actually cheapest, so compare the same storage tier and the final price you will pay.

Samsung Galaxy A17 5G: the lowest-cost new-phone pick
For a buyer who mainly wants a capable basic Android phone at a low upfront price, the Galaxy A17 5G is the straightforward choice to investigate first. Engadget’s 2026 guide calls it its best cheap Android phone overall and reports a $200 starting price. Samsung’s US 2026 A-series comparison lists the A17 with 4GB of RAM, 128GB of storage and microSD expansion up to 2TB.
#1 Best Overall
- Carrier: This phone is locked to Tracfone, which means this device can only be used on the Tracfone wireless network. Tracfone plan required, activating is easy, just 3 steps.
- DISPLAY: Immersive viewing on a 6.7-inch super-bright 120Hz display with powerful stereo speakers and Bass Boost for cinematic entertainment.
- CAMERA SYSTEM: Advanced 50MP Quad Pixel camera captures sharp, detailed photos and videos in any lighting condition
- PERFORMANCE: Lightning-fast 5G connectivity paired with a powerful processor and RAM Boost for smooth multitasking.
- BATTERY LIFE: Long-lasting 5000mAh battery with TurboPower charging technology delivers hours of power in minutes.
What you get
- A 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate, according to Samsung US Support’s 2026 comparison.
- Engadget reports a 50MP main camera, 5MP ultrawide and 2MP macro camera, plus an OLED panel rated for up to 800 nits brightness.
- Expandable storage gives you an option if the included capacity is tight; confirm card capacity and compatibility for the exact US SKU.
What to weigh against a Pixel
Engadget says the A17’s Exynos 1330 can struggle with multitasking and demanding apps. It also identifies a mono speaker and battery life as drawbacks. If you routinely keep many apps open, play demanding games or care most about consistent point-and-shoot photos, do not choose it on price alone; compare a Pixel deal and other candidates in person or against reviews for the exact model.
Motorola Moto G Stylus (2025): more features, especially below $300
The Moto G Stylus (2025) makes sense when the built-in pen is useful to you, rather than as a simple way to save money. Android Authority’s 2026 alternatives guide lists a $399.99 retail price and says promotions sometimes take it below $300. That discount can make it a more compelling comparison, but verify whether the offer requires a carrier plan, trade-in or financing.

Why consider it
Android Authority describes a 6.7-inch display, stylus, expandable storage and 68W wired charging. Those are practical advantages if you annotate documents, take handwritten notes, want room for a memory card or value faster wired top-ups. The guide also reports that its battery capacity is nearly identical to the Pixel 10a’s, though capacity alone does not establish equal real-world battery life.
Why it may not replace a Pixel for you
Android Authority says Google’s image processing is more reliable and reports that Motorola promises two major Android updates for this model. If camera consistency or a longer supported life is central to your purchase, check the phone’s current support status and compare the exact update commitment before choosing it.

Nothing Phone (4a) Pro: a big, fast display with camera and carrier caveats
Choose the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro for its screen and design rather than expecting it to beat a Pixel at everyday photography. TechRadar’s September 2026 US budget-phone guide lists Nothing OS 4.1 on Android 16, a 6.83-inch 1060 × 2800 display running at 144Hz, Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, 8GB or 12GB of RAM, and 128GB or 256GB of storage. The guide says it launched in March 2026.
Camera and battery expectations
The listed rear cameras are a 50MP main camera, a 50MP 3.5x zoom camera and an 8MP ultrawide. TechRadar’s reviewer nevertheless reported inconsistent exposure and pale color in some results. The same guide reports a 5,080mAh battery and 50W charging, with no wireless charging. In one reviewer test, the battery fell to 56% after six hours of 2K video streaming; that is a single test result, not a general estimate of daily battery life. The reviewer also found endurance shorter than claimed.

Check US network support before ordering
TechRadar warns that some of the phone’s 5G bands may not work with every US carrier. Check the exact US SKU against your carrier’s compatibility information before buying, especially if ordering an imported or unlocked version. A phone’s advertised 5G capability does not by itself confirm support for every carrier’s bands or features.

How to choose based on what matters most
- Lowest upfront cost: Start by checking the Galaxy A17 5G’s live unlocked price against any Pixel 9a sale. Engadget’s $200 A17 starting price and Android Authority’s reported frequent $399 Pixel 9a discounts are dated guide figures, not guaranteed checkout prices.
- Most dependable camera processing: Keep the Pixel in the running. Android Authority’s comparison favors Google’s image processing over the Moto G Stylus (2025), while TechRadar describes the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro’s results as inconsistent.
- Stylus and wired charging: Compare the Moto G Stylus (2025) if you will use its pen and 68W charging. Do not treat its sale price as permanent.
- Largest, fastest listed screen: The Nothing Phone (4a) Pro has the largest and highest-refresh-rate display among these candidates at 6.83 inches and 144Hz, according to TechRadar. The A17 and Moto are listed with 6.7-inch screens.
- Expandable storage: Samsung’s 2026 US comparison confirms microSD support on the A17; Android Authority also lists expandable storage for the Moto. Check the exact regional model and supported card capacity.
- Long-term ownership: Compare the published update promise for the exact phone you are considering, not a brand-wide reputation. Android Authority reports two major Android updates for the Moto G Stylus (2025); Android Central advises buyers of older or used budget phones to check how much support remains.
Before checkout: a short verification list
- Compare the actual final prices. Check unlocked and carrier-locked versions separately, match storage configurations, and account for trade-in, financing or plan requirements. Prices in the cited guides can change.
- Confirm the model is the US version. Regional hardware and network compatibility can differ. This is especially important for the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro, for which TechRadar flags carrier-band limitations.
- Check software support for that exact model. Find the remaining update commitment before buying, particularly for an older, used or heavily discounted phone.
- Match the phone to your daily use. A17 prioritizes a low starting price and expandable storage; Moto adds a stylus and faster wired charging; Nothing emphasizes its large, high-refresh-rate screen. If reliable photos are your top priority, compare Pixel pricing rather than assuming a cheaper alternative will match it.
