Steam’s own achievement page is the authoritative place to verify whether an achievement is unlocked. For a richer view across your library, SteamHunter is the strongest mobile-first option; Ordago Software’s paid Achievement Manager is the most capable desktop planner with an overlay; and the separate, free, open-source Steam Achievement Manager (SAM) is the practical Windows utility for viewing and managing achievement data, provided you accept the risks of an unofficial tool.
The names are confusing, so publisher, platform and purpose matter more than the shared words “Achievement Manager.” This guide explains what each option actually does, how to use it, and which tracker fits your goals.

Which Steam achievement tracker should you choose?
Use the following decision guide before installing anything:
| What you want | Best fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Authoritative, no-install verification for one game | Steam’s native achievement system | It is Valve’s own application-specific record and requires no third-party access. |
| Phone-based tracking, filters and social comparison | SteamHunter for Android | It tracks games and individual achievements, with completion, rarity, playtime, monthly progress, friends and leaderboards. |
| Desktop library planning and an in-game overlay | Achievement Manager by Ordago Software | The paid Steam Store app adds a library-wide progress view, rarity categories, a Kanban board and a customizable overlay. |
| Free, open-source Windows utility | Steam Achievement Manager (SAM) | It can view and manage achievements and compatible statistics, but it is unofficial and should be used cautiously. |
These are not four versions of one product. SteamHunter is an Android tracker, Ordago’s product is a commercial desktop Steam application, and SAM is a separate open-source Windows project. Treating the two “Achievement Manager” products as interchangeable can lead you to install the wrong software.

Steam’s built-in achievement system: the baseline
Steam’s first-party system remains the reference point for achievement status. Valve’s Steamworks documentation describes Steam Stats and Achievements as providing “persistent, roaming achievement and statistics tracking for your users.” In practical terms, the record is tied to the specific game application and follows a supported Steam user across systems where that account is used.
What Steam does well
- Authority: the game’s Steam integration is the original source of its achievement state.
- Persistence: unlocked achievements and supported statistics are stored through Steam rather than only on one computer.
- No extra account: you do not need to hand credentials to a separate tracker merely to inspect a game’s achievements.
- Immediate verification: when an achievement appears locked or unlocked in Steam, you are looking at the record used by the platform itself.
Where the native view is limited
Steam’s standard presentation is organized around individual game pages. It is useful when you are playing one title and want to inspect its achievement list, but it is not designed as a sophisticated, cross-library planning dashboard. It does not provide the combination of mobile filters, social leaderboards, a Kanban workflow and an in-game overlay described by the specialist tools below.
How to check missing achievements in Steam
- Open the Steam client and go to your Library.
- Select the game whose achievements you want to inspect.
- Open the game’s achievement view from its library or community page. Steam displays the title’s achievement list and your unlocked status.
- Compare locked entries with the game’s descriptions, requirements and any statistics the game exposes.
- If a third-party tracker disagrees with Steam, treat Steam’s game-specific record as the starting point and refresh the third-party view before taking action.
Achievement support and statistics are application-specific. A game can expose a different set of achievements or compatible statistics from another game, and a tracker cannot create authoritative data that the game does not provide.

- Filters and sorting for narrowing a large library.
- Completion percentages for games and achievements.
- Playtime information.
- Achievement rarity.
- Monthly progress views.
- Friend comparison.
- A leaderboard for social ranking.
That combination turns a raw list of locked entries into a way to decide what to play next. For example, you can filter for games that are close to completion, inspect rare achievements that remain, or use monthly progress to keep a finishing goal visible.
Signing in and account handling
SteamHunter uses Steam OpenID for login and says it does not store your Steam password. OpenID means authentication is handed to Steam rather than requiring you to type your password into the tracker’s own password field. You should still verify that you are using the legitimate app and review the permissions and privacy information shown at sign-in.
How to use SteamHunter
- Install the Android app from its official distribution channel.
- Choose the Steam sign-in option and complete authentication through Steam OpenID.
- Allow the app to load your library and achievement information.
- Open a game to see its completion percentage, playtime, rarity information and individual achievement status.
- Use filters and sorting to create a short list, such as games with a high completion percentage or achievements of a selected rarity.
- Open the friend and leaderboard views when you want a social comparison rather than a private checklist.
- Recheck synchronization after unlocking an achievement in Steam if the mobile view does not update immediately.
Who should choose SteamHunter?
Choose it if your main requirement is a phone-friendly overview of a Steam library, especially when filters, monthly history and friend comparisons matter. It is less suitable if you need a desktop overlay while playing or a visual board for scheduling a multi-game completion project; those are the reasons to consider Ordago’s desktop application instead.
Ordago Software’s Achievement Manager: best for desktop planning and overlays
Ordago Software’s Achievement Manager is a paid Steam Store application released on January 23, 2026. Its listing says it can show global achievement progress for every game in your Steam library, then adds planning and in-game tools that the native Steam view does not provide.
Core features
- Library-wide progress: see global achievement progress for each game rather than opening titles one at a time.
- Rarity categories: sort or interpret achievements by how uncommon they are.
- Kanban board: organize achievement goals into a visual workflow, such as planned, active and completed columns.
- Customizable in-game overlay: keep achievement information visible while playing without repeatedly switching to the Steam client.
The Kanban feature is particularly useful for players who treat completion as a project. You can put a difficult achievement in a “next” column, move it to an active column while working through a game, and retain a separate list for goals that require a later playthrough. The overlay addresses a different need: quick reference during the session.

Cost and purchase checks
This is a paid product distributed through the Steam Store. Its price, discount status and user-review percentage can change, so check the current listing immediately before buying rather than relying on an old figure. The January 23, 2026 release date identifies the product; it should not be confused with the older open-source SAM project.

- Open the current Steam Store listing and confirm that the developer and publisher are identified as Ordago Software.
- Install the application through Steam and launch it after your library information is available.
- Review the library-wide progress screen to identify games with the most remaining achievements or the highest completion potential.
- Use the rarity categories to separate common cleanup tasks from unusually difficult or uncommon goals.
- Create a Kanban workflow that matches your routine. A simple setup is Backlog, Playing, Needs a specific task and Complete.
- Configure the overlay to show only the information you need while playing, then adjust its position and appearance for readability.
- Confirm unlocks in Steam if the overlay or planner appears out of sync.
Who should choose Ordago’s app?
It is the strongest fit for a desktop player who wants one view of an entire library and a deliberate plan for finishing games. The trade-off is that it costs money and is a commercial third-party application, so you should evaluate its current price, update activity and reviews before purchase.
Steam Achievement Manager (SAM): the free, open-source Windows utility
Steam Achievement Manager, commonly called SAM, is a separate project from Ordago’s product. Its project site describes it as a free, open-source Windows application for viewing and managing achievements and compatible statistics in Steam games.
What SAM is designed to do
SAM exposes achievement and compatible-statistic data in a desktop utility. “Viewing” and “managing” are distinct functions: inspecting your progress is one use; changing an achievement’s state is another. The latter is not equivalent to earning an achievement through the game’s normal mechanics.
Important trust and policy caveats
- SAM is unofficial software, not a Valve product and not a Valve-endorsed feature.
- There is no guarantee that using an external utility is safe for every account or every game.
- Changing achievement state can undermine the meaning of a completion record and may conflict with a game’s rules or current Steam policies.
- Review Steam’s current policies and the project’s current status before using any management function.
- Download only from the project’s legitimate current distribution channel, and scan unfamiliar files before opening them.
Because the project is open source, technically minded users may value the ability to inspect its code and community activity. Open source does not, by itself, make a tool official, risk-free or suitable for altering account data.

How to use SAM conservatively
- Verify that you have the current project and that it is intended for your version of Windows.
- Read the project’s documentation and any current notices before launching it.
- Use the viewing functions first to inspect the games and achievements Steam exposes.
- Back up any relevant local game saves through the game’s own supported method before experimenting with external tools.
- Avoid changing achievement or statistic state unless you understand the consequences and have checked applicable Steam and game policies.
- Close SAM and return to the game and Steam client to verify ordinary, in-game unlock behavior.
Who should choose SAM?
SAM is for Windows users who specifically want a free, open-source utility and are comfortable with unofficial software. It is not the best general recommendation for someone who only wants a safe checklist; Steam’s native view or a read-only tracker is the simpler route.
Ordago’s Achievement Manager versus SAM
The similar names are the source of most confusion. Use this comparison when deciding between them:
| Category | Achievement Manager by Ordago Software | Steam Achievement Manager (SAM) |
|---|---|---|
| Publisher/developer | Ordago Software | Independent open-source project; publisher identity is not the same as Ordago Software. |
| Distribution | Steam Store | Project distribution outside Valve’s commercial Steam Store listing. |
| Cost | Paid; current price is subject to change. | Free. |
| Primary platform | Desktop Steam environment; confirm current system requirements in the listing. | Windows. |
| Main emphasis | Library-wide progress, planning and an in-game overlay. | Viewing and managing achievements and compatible statistics. |
| Planning tools | Rarity categories and integrated Kanban board. | No equivalent planning features are established here. |
| Overlay | Customizable in-game overlay described in the Steam listing. | Not established as a feature in the project description. |
| Trust model | Commercial third-party Steam application. | Unofficial, open-source third-party utility; account and policy risks require extra caution. |
If you want a polished planning layer and overlay, Ordago’s app is the relevant product. If you want a free Windows utility capable of management functions, SAM is the relevant product. Neither replaces Steam as the authoritative record for a game’s own achievement data.

You only need to find one missing achievement
Start with Steam. Open the game’s achievement list and read the locked achievement’s description. This avoids installing another application for a task Steam already handles reliably.
You play on a phone or check progress away from your PC
Choose SteamHunter. Its Android format, completion percentages, filters, playtime, rarity, monthly progress and friend features are built around that use case.

You are pursuing 100% completion across several games
Choose Ordago’s Achievement Manager if you want a desktop dashboard, a Kanban board and an overlay. Those features help you decide what to play and keep the next task visible during a session.
You want a free Windows tool and understand unofficial software
Choose SAM only after reviewing current policies and project status. Use it primarily for inspection unless you have a clear, informed reason to use management functions.
You care most about minimizing third-party access
Stay with Steam’s native system. SteamHunter says it uses OpenID and does not store your Steam password, but it is still an external service. Ordago’s application is also third-party software, while SAM is unofficial and has the greatest need for caution around changes to achievement state.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTroubleshooting achievement tracker problems
A tracker shows old progress
- Confirm the achievement unlocked in Steam first.
- Refresh or restart the tracker and allow it to synchronize again.
- Check that you signed in to the Steam account containing the game.
- Remember that a game’s achievement data is application-specific; a similarly named title may be a different app.
A game or achievement is missing
- Check that the game is in the account library being viewed.
- Look for filters that hide games with zero progress, completed games or unusual achievement categories.
- Verify that the title actually exposes Steam achievements; third-party software cannot display data the game does not publish.
- Use Steam’s own game page as the authority when names or counts differ.
SteamHunter cannot authenticate
Restart the OpenID sign-in flow and make sure the authentication page is Steam’s genuine login page. Do not enter your password into an unexpected form inside another app. If authentication succeeds but data does not appear, check the app’s account selection and synchronization state.
The desktop overlay is hard to read
Open the Ordago application’s overlay settings and reduce the displayed fields to the achievement information you actually need. Move the overlay away from menus and subtitles, then test it in a game before committing to a long session.
SAM behaves unexpectedly
Stop using its management functions, close the utility and consult the project’s current documentation. Do not assume that an error means Steam will repair or endorse the change. Verify ordinary game behavior and review current Steam policies before doing anything further.
Privacy and account-safety checklist
- Prefer Steam’s native view when a third-party tracker adds no necessary value.
- Use Steam OpenID rather than typing a Steam password into an unrelated password field.
- Check the developer and distribution channel before installing software with a similar name.
- Keep Steam Guard and your account recovery details current.
- Understand whether a tool only reads progress or can alter achievement and statistic state.
- Review current Steam rules and each project’s privacy documentation, because policies and software behavior can change.
- Do not treat an open-source label or a Steam Store listing as a guarantee of account safety.
Final recommendations
Steam is the best first-party baseline and the correct tie-breaker whenever another tracker disagrees with a game’s achievement record. SteamHunter is the best choice for Android users who want filters, rarity, playtime, monthly progress and social comparison. Ordago Software’s paid Achievement Manager is the best desktop option for library-wide planning, a Kanban board and a customizable in-game overlay. SAM is the best fit for a free, open-source Windows utility, but its unofficial status means you should treat management features cautiously and review current policies before changing anything.
