Best Accessories for a Samsung DeX Desktop Setup

Start by checking your exact Galaxy phone or tablet in Samsung’s current DeX support documentation before buying anything. DeX is available only on supported models and software versions, and wired, wireless and PC connection methods do not have identical requirements. Once compatibility is confirmed, the simplest useful desk normally needs an external display, a USB-C-to-HDMI connection (or a suitable hub), and a keyboard and mouse. Add a USB-C power path when you want to keep the device charged during a wired session.

Samsung describes DeX as a way to connect a phone or tablet to a PC, monitor or TV for a desktop-mode experience. The right accessories depend mainly on the display connection you plan to use and whether your peripherals are USB or Bluetooth.

Check DeX compatibility before choosing accessories

DeX support changes as Samsung adds devices and updates software. Do not assume that every Galaxy phone supports DeX, or that a device supporting one connection method supports all of them. Open Samsung’s current support pages for your exact model and software version:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Confirm these points before ordering an accessory:

  • Your model supports DeX at all.
  • Your software version supports the wired method you intend to use, such as a DeX cable or HDMI connection.
  • Your model and software support wireless DeX if you want a cable-free display.
  • The monitor or TV has the input your cable or adapter provides.
  • A USB-C monitor offers the video and charging functions you actually need, rather than merely having a USB-C socket.
  • Your chosen hub exposes enough USB ports and has a power-delivery input if you need charging while using USB peripherals.

Samsung’s pages are the authority for the current model list. Recheck them if you change devices, install a major software update or move between phone and tablet, because support details can change.

“Samsung DeX lets you connect your phone or tablet to a PC, monitor, or TV for a desktop mode experience.” — Samsung Support US, Use a keyboard and mouse with Samsung DeX (accessed October 13, 2026).

The minimum useful DeX desk

A practical first setup has three functional parts: a supported Galaxy device, an external display and a way to connect that display. A keyboard and mouse turn the result into a more conventional desktop, but DeX can be started with only the display connection if you are testing compatibility.

For a wired HDMI display

Choose a USB-C-to-HDMI adapter or cable when the monitor or TV has an open HDMI input and you want the fewest components. Connect the USB-C end to the Galaxy device and HDMI to the display, then select the correct HDMI input. The adapter or cable must support the wired DeX path for your model; a cable that only carries charging or ordinary data is not enough.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Decide whether you need charging during use. If so, select an adapter that explicitly provides USB-C power pass-through, or use a hub with a USB-C power-delivery input. A simple display adapter without pass-through may leave the phone or tablet running from its battery.

For display, peripherals and charging together

Use a USB-C hub with HDMI, USB-A and USB-C power delivery when you want one connection to carry video, wired input devices and power. The Galaxy device plugs into the hub; HDMI goes to the display, USB-A ports accept a keyboard and mouse, and the USB-C power-delivery port connects to a charger.

A hub is a convenience category, not a guarantee of universal compatibility. Check the hub’s display-output support, port layout and power-delivery behavior against Samsung’s guidance and the hub maker’s specifications. Some combinations may provide video but not the charging behavior you expect, so treat pass-through as a feature to verify rather than an automatic result.

Adapter or hub: which connection makes sense?

Accessory path Useful when Checks before purchase
USB-C-to-HDMI adapter or cable The display has HDMI and you want a simple wired connection. Exact Galaxy support for wired DeX; HDMI compatibility; USB-C power pass-through if charging matters.
USB-C hub with HDMI, USB-A and USB-C power delivery You need wired video, USB peripherals and a charging path through one connection. Display-output support, port layout, power-delivery behavior and device compatibility.
USB-C monitor You are building a fixed desk and want the display connection to use USB-C. The monitor’s relevant video and charging features; do not assume every USB-C display behaves alike.
Wireless display You want the phone or tablet free of display cables. Supported Galaxy model, compatible display path including Miracast support, distance and whether wireless performance suits your work.

An adapter is primarily the display link. A hub becomes worthwhile when the desk also needs USB-A ports for accessories and a USB-C charging input. Buying a hub for a one-cable HDMI connection can add cost and bulk without adding a function you use; buying only an adapter when you need two USB devices and charging usually leaves you searching for another solution.

Keyboard and mouse choices

DeX accepts keyboard and mouse input through USB or Bluetooth, subject to the device and connection arrangement. Choose the connection style that matches the ports and cable policy of your desk.

Bluetooth keyboard and mouse

Bluetooth keeps the desk clear of USB leads. It is useful with a simple HDMI adapter, because the adapter can remain dedicated to video while the peripherals pair directly with the Galaxy device. Check that the keyboard and mouse support the pairing method your device uses, and plan for their battery or charging requirements. If you move between a phone, tablet and another computer, confirm how easily the peripherals switch hosts; a shared receiver may be preferable if you need a single, consistent connection across devices.

USB keyboard and mouse

Wired peripherals are straightforward when the hub or adapter exposes USB ports. A hub with USB-A lets you plug in conventional keyboard and mouse cables without additional dongles. If you are using a display adapter with no USB ports, you will need Bluetooth peripherals or a separate USB expansion arrangement. Check the available port count before buying: two wired devices consume two ports unless one uses a receiver that serves both.

Neither connection type is automatically better. Bluetooth minimizes cables but adds pairing and battery considerations. USB avoids wireless pairing and usually needs no peripheral battery, but it consumes ports and makes a hub more valuable.

Choosing the display

The display determines the accessory path more than any other desk component. Start with the inputs already available on the monitor or TV you plan to use.

HDMI monitor or TV

HDMI is the most direct wired target for a USB-C-to-HDMI adapter, cable or HDMI-equipped hub. Confirm that the display has a free HDMI input and that you can select it from the display’s input menu. If the display is shared with other equipment, note which input you will use so troubleshooting does not begin with an incorrect source selection.

USB-C monitor

A USB-C display can change the accessory list, but the connector alone does not establish what the monitor will do. Confirm that the monitor accepts the relevant video signal from your Galaxy device and whether its USB-C port supplies charging power. Some USB-C displays are designed mainly for data, some provide video without meaningful charging, and some combine video, USB hub functions and power delivery. Samsung’s device support and the monitor’s specifications must agree before you rely on a single-cable arrangement.

If the monitor’s USB-C behavior is unclear, an HDMI path through a known-compatible adapter or hub is easier to reason about. You can then treat monitor charging as optional instead of making the whole setup depend on it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Television or shared display

A TV can serve as the external display if it provides the required HDMI input for a wired setup or a compatible wireless path for wireless DeX. Because TVs often have several sources, select the matching input after connecting. Wireless use also depends on the TV or intermediary display device meeting the compatibility requirements described by Samsung, including Miracast support where applicable.

When wireless DeX changes the accessory list

Wireless DeX removes the display cable, but it does not remove compatibility checks. Samsung’s guidance ties wireless DeX to supported devices and a compatible display path, including Miracast support. Verify both sides: the Galaxy model and software, and the receiving display or display device.

A wireless setup may need only a compatible display and Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. You can keep peripherals paired directly to the Galaxy device while the display connection travels over the air. If you prefer USB peripherals, a hub remains useful on the device side, but it no longer carries HDMI.

  • Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft

Distance and the physical environment matter to the experience even when the connection is supported. Place the Galaxy device where its wireless link remains reliable, and decide whether the convenience of no display cable outweighs the possibility that a wired connection will be more predictable for your particular desk. Samsung’s support pages should be checked again if you change the display or device.

Charging and power planning

Charging is the accessory detail most often missed because video can work without it. A wired DeX session may use the device’s battery, so decide whether the desk is for short sessions or for sustained use.

Using a simple adapter

Look specifically for USB-C power pass-through in the adapter’s specifications if you want to connect a charger at the same time. Without that feature, the adapter may provide the display connection only. The exact charging behavior depends on the Galaxy device, adapter and charger combination, so do not treat the presence of a USB-C socket on an adapter as proof that it will charge.

Using a hub

A hub with USB-C power delivery gives you a dedicated charging input alongside HDMI and USB-A. Connect the charger to the hub’s power-delivery port, the display to HDMI and peripherals to USB-A, then connect the hub to the Galaxy device. Confirm the hub’s stated power-delivery behavior and the requirements of your charger; the hub category itself does not guarantee a particular charging rate or result.

Using a USB-C monitor’s power output

If the monitor is intended to charge connected devices, verify that its USB-C port supplies power while carrying the video signal you need. Monitor specifications should state the relevant video and charging functions. If they do not, use an adapter or hub whose pass-through behavior is clearly documented instead of assuming the monitor will replace a charger.

Step-by-step: assemble a wired HDMI DeX desk

  1. Confirm support. Check your exact Galaxy model and software on Samsung’s DeX support pages, and verify that wired DeX is listed for the connection method you plan to use.
  2. Match the display input. For an HDMI monitor or TV, choose a USB-C-to-HDMI adapter or cable. If you need USB peripherals and charging, choose an HDMI/USB-A/USB-C-power-delivery hub instead.
  3. Prepare power. If the accessory supports power pass-through, connect the charger to its USB-C charging input. Otherwise, understand that the device may run from its battery during the session.
  4. Connect the display. Plug HDMI into the monitor or TV and select that HDMI source on the display.
  5. Connect the Galaxy device. Attach the USB-C adapter or hub to the phone or tablet. Wait for the DeX prompt or desktop interface described in Samsung’s instructions.
  6. Add input devices. Plug a keyboard and mouse into the hub’s USB-A ports, or pair Bluetooth devices directly with the Galaxy device. Follow the pairing instructions for each peripheral.
  7. Check the result. Confirm that the DeX desktop appears on the external display, that pointer and keyboard input respond, and that the charging indicator behaves as expected if power is connected.

If the display remains blank, work through the chain in order: verify the display input, reseat HDMI and USB-C connections, confirm the adapter or hub is intended for video, and recheck Samsung’s model and software requirements. If video works but USB devices do not, inspect the hub’s port assignment and try one peripheral at a time. If peripherals work but charging does not, recheck power-delivery support on the hub or adapter and the charger connection.

Step-by-step: plan a wireless DeX desk

  1. Verify wireless support. Check Samsung’s current guidance for your exact Galaxy device and software.
  2. Verify the display path. Confirm that the receiving display or display device is compatible with Samsung’s wireless requirements, including Miracast support where Samsung specifies it.
  3. Prepare input. Pair a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse if you want a cable-free desk. If you use USB devices, plan a compatible hub on the Galaxy-device side.
  4. Start wireless DeX. Use the DeX or wireless-display controls described in Samsung’s device instructions, then select the compatible display.
  5. Evaluate the workspace. Check that the display remains connected at the distance and location you intend to use. If the experience is unreliable, switch to a wired HDMI arrangement rather than adding unrelated accessories.

Common setup mistakes and fixes

Assuming every Galaxy device supports DeX

DeX is limited to supported Galaxy models and software. The fix is to check the exact device on Samsung’s current support pages before buying a cable, hub or monitor.

Buying a charging-only USB-C cable

A cable that charges or transfers ordinary data may not provide the video path required for DeX. Use an accessory specified for the relevant display connection and confirm wired DeX support for the device.

Expecting every USB-C monitor to act the same

USB-C describes the connector, not a uniform feature set. Read the monitor specification for video input and charging output, or use HDMI through an adapter or hub with clearly stated support.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Leaving no ports for peripherals

A display-only adapter cannot accept a USB keyboard and mouse. Choose Bluetooth peripherals or move to a hub with enough USB-A ports.

Forgetting the power path

Video output does not automatically mean charging. Select an adapter with power pass-through or a hub with USB-C power delivery, then verify the behavior with your specific device and charger.

Confusing monitor DeX with DeX for PC

This article concerns DeX on an external monitor or TV. Samsung also documents DeX for PC, which has its own software-version caveat and should be checked separately if a computer connection is your goal.

A device-specific buying checklist

Write down the answers before placing an order:

  • Galaxy model and software: What exact phone or tablet model and software version will run DeX?
  • Connection type: Do you want wired HDMI, a USB-C monitor, or wireless display?
  • Display input: Which input is available on the monitor or TV?
  • Charging: Must the device charge during use, and does the selected adapter, hub or monitor provide the required power path?
  • Peripherals: Will the keyboard and mouse be Bluetooth or USB?
  • Ports: If using USB devices, does the hub provide enough USB-A ports without extra splitters?
  • Wireless requirements: If cable-free, does the display path meet Samsung’s compatibility guidance, including Miracast where required?
  • Future use: Will you reuse the hub or peripherals with another device, and does that device need the same ports?

Concise buying list by desk type

Desk plan Core accessories Important checks
Simple HDMI desk USB-C-to-HDMI adapter or cable; Bluetooth or USB keyboard and mouse. Wired DeX support, HDMI input and power pass-through if charging is needed.
Single-cable wired desk USB-C hub with HDMI, USB-A and USB-C power delivery; keyboard and mouse; charger. Hub display support, available ports, power-delivery behavior and Galaxy compatibility.
USB-C monitor desk Compatible USB-C monitor; keyboard and mouse; charging solution if the monitor does not provide one. Monitor video input and charging features; do not infer them from the connector alone.
Wireless desk Compatible wireless display; Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. Galaxy support, display/Miracast compatibility, operating distance and reliability for your use.

The safest purchase order is compatibility first, display connection second, peripherals third and convenience extras last. That sequence prevents an attractive hub or monitor from becoming the part that determines whether DeX works at all.
