For most new or solo players, choose Summer Intern. It is repeatedly recommended as the most flexible starting job because it has no fixed stat bonuses and is reported to provide extra trait points. Pick Lab Assistant if you want stealth and mobility, Epimedical Bionomicist if your group needs a medic, Archotechnic Consultant for a dedicated builder, or Defense Analyst for a frontline fighter. Because the available guides predate a 2026 update and disagree on Summer Intern’s trait-point total, check the character-creation screen in your current build before committing.

Quick picks
| Play style | Best first choice | Why it fits | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Solo generalist | Summer Intern | Flexible trait allocation and no preset stat bonuses in the guide descriptions. | Sources disagree on whether it grants 12 or 8 trait points; verify in game. |
| Solo stealth | Lab Assistant | Bonuses to Sneaking, Sprinting and Strength, plus faster Sneaking experience. | The exact bonuses come from guide summaries rather than an official developer table. |
| Solo combat | Trans-Kinematic Researcher | Recommended for absorbing hits, escaping danger and dealing melee damage. | No numeric stat breakdown was consistently published. |
| Solo medical safety | Epimedical Bionomicist | First Aid and medical-crafting advantages when nobody can revive you. | Choose it when self-treatment matters more than a broad opening build. |
| Solo farming and cooking | Phytogenetic Botanist | Agriculture and Cooking bonuses support self-sufficient food production. | Its value depends on how much of your run is devoted to farming. |
| Co-op medic | Epimedical Bionomicist | Specializes in keeping teammates treated and supplied. | Coordinate with the group so another player does not duplicate the same role. |
| Co-op builder | Archotechnic Consultant | Crafting and Construction bonuses concentrate base-building work in one character. | Most useful when the team deliberately assigns a primary builder. |
| Co-op frontline | Defense Analyst | Strength-and-endurance focus suits direct fighting. | One tier list places it in the lowest tier because of low trait points; that is an opinion, not a measured rule. |
| Co-op scout | Lab Assistant | Stealth and movement bonuses help a player investigate ahead of the group. | Its combat and support value may be narrower than a specialist’s. |
These recommendations consolidate the job descriptions in TheGamer’s character-creation guide, TechRaptor’s skills and traits guide, Dot Esports’ job recommendations and the solo/co-op breakdowns from Holy.gg and BLAST.tv.

A job is a starting specialization, not a universal power ranking. The right choice covers the weakness your planned run is most likely to expose. Solo players must personally handle scouting, fights, treatment and resource production, so flexibility and self-sufficiency usually matter more than a narrow team bonus. In co-op, specialization becomes stronger: one player can build, another can treat injuries, and others can scout or fight.

Use this three-question test
- Who covers emergencies? If you will have no teammate to revive or treat you, medical or combat resilience has greater value.
- What task will consume your time? A stealth scout, builder, farmer or melee fighter benefits from a job aligned with that repeated activity.
- What does the rest of the party lack? In multiplayer, select the missing role instead of copying a teammate’s bonuses.
Do not treat a tier list as a ruleset. For example, a ranking summarized by LagoFast places Summer Intern at the top and Defense Analyst at the bottom, but that ordering reflects the author’s priorities. A low-ranked specialist can still be the best answer when your party needs its particular job.
Best jobs for solo players
Summer Intern: the safest default
Summer Intern is the broadest recommendation for a first or solo run. The guides describe it as having no fixed stat bonuses while granting additional trait points, allowing you to shape the character around stealth, combat, crafting or utility instead of inheriting a narrow profile. That flexibility is especially useful while learning which skills you actually use.
The important caveat is a direct conflict in published tables. One guide reports 12 trait points, described as more than any other job; another table lists 8. The conflicting figures appear in TheGamer, UR Game Tips and Game Devourer summaries. Read the value shown by your current character-creation screen rather than planning around either number.

It is less compelling only when you already know that stealth, medicine, farming or melee will dominate your play.
Lab Assistant: stealth, speed and a flexible combat edge
Lab Assistant is the clearest alternative for players who prefer avoiding detection and moving quickly. The reported bonuses are +3 Sneaking, +3 Sprinting, +2 Strength, plus a 50% experience increase for Sneaking. Those numbers are listed by TechRaptor and Dot Esports; verify that your current version still displays them.
For solo play, the combination addresses two common problems at once: reaching a location without drawing every threat and having enough movement to disengage when a fight goes badly. The Strength bonus also keeps the job from being purely evasive. The trade-off is specialization: if your run rarely uses stealth, Summer Intern’s open trait budget may produce a better all-purpose character.

- Game for Hours in Comfort. Everything about these headphones is about comfort: The deluxe lightweight leatherette ear cups and headband are made to keep pressure off your ears. Ear cups rotate up to 90 degrees for convenience.
Trans-Kinematic Researcher: the solo combat plan
Trans-Kinematic Researcher is recommended for a player who expects to take hits, escape dangerous encounters and win through melee damage. The available descriptions emphasize durability and close-range pressure rather than a single published stat line. That makes it a deliberate choice for an aggressive solo route, not a universal upgrade.
Select it when you enjoy direct engagements and would rather build around surviving contact than sneaking past it. If you are still learning enemy patterns, compare that goal with Summer Intern’s flexibility before locking in a combat-specialist identity.
Epimedical Bionomicist: insurance when you are alone
Epimedical Bionomicist focuses on First Aid and medical crafting. In a solo world, the value is independence: you cannot assume another player will stabilize you, carry medical supplies or handle treatment while you continue exploring. The same job is also the standard multiplayer medic, so choosing it alone does not mean you are wasting a support specialization.
It is the strongest solo fit when your route regularly exposes you to damage or when you prefer preparing remedies yourself. It is less attractive if you consistently avoid combat and already have another reliable way to maintain health.
Phytogenetic Botanist: food production as a primary job
Phytogenetic Botanist supplies Agriculture and Cooking bonuses, making it the specialist for a run built around growing ingredients and preparing food. The recommendation comes from Holy.gg and related job summaries.

Pick it when farming and cooking are central activities rather than occasional side tasks. A player who spends most of the run fighting or scouting may gain more from Lab Assistant, Trans-Kinematic Researcher or Summer Intern. In a self-sufficient solo routine, however, faster agricultural and culinary progress can reduce the time spent securing meals.

Best jobs for multiplayer and co-op
Epimedical Bionomicist: the team medic
Co-op groups most often assign Epimedical Bionomicist to the medic. First Aid and medical-crafting advantages let one player concentrate on treatment and supplies while teammates invest in exploration, construction or combat. The role is strongest when the party agrees who is responsible for medical readiness before the expedition starts.
A second medic may be unnecessary unless the group is large or intentionally splitting into separate teams. If nobody wants the responsibility, taking this job can prevent a support gap; if another player already has it, choose a role that covers a different weakness.
Archotechnic Consultant: the dedicated builder
Archotechnic Consultant is the co-op construction specialist, with Crafting and Construction bonuses. A team benefits more from concentrating building work in one character than from every player making a partially developed builder. That player can focus on the base and equipment pipeline while the others gather, scout or defend.

This job is most valuable when your group plans a persistent base and will repeatedly craft or construct. In a short session or a team that prefers constant exploration, its opportunity cost is higher than a combat or scouting job.
Defense Analyst: the frontline fighter
Defense Analyst is aimed at direct combat through strong Strength and Endurance emphasis. It gives a co-op party a clear frontliner who can take the most immediate fighting responsibility while the medic supports from behind and the builder works on infrastructure.
Its reputation is mixed. One tier list summarized by LagoFast places Defense Analyst in the lowest tier because of low trait points, while other role guides still identify it as the frontline option. Treat that disagreement as a trade-off: if your group needs a durable fighter, the role can be useful even if a general ranking scores its flexibility poorly.

Lab Assistant: the co-op scout
Lab Assistant can serve as a forward scout in multiplayer. Sneaking and Sprinting bonuses help one player move ahead quietly, identify hazards and report back before the whole group commits. The reported +3 Sneaking, +3 Sprinting, +2 Strength and 50% Sneaking XP bonus also make it viable for a player who wants mobility without abandoning all combat capability.
Assign this job when your team already has a medic and builder but lacks someone comfortable gathering information ahead of the main group. If scouting is not part of your group’s routine, Summer Intern may offer more adaptable trait planning.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Solo versus co-op priorities
| Decision axis | Solo priority | Co-op priority |
|---|---|---|
| Survivability | Choose medical independence or a combat profile because no teammate can cover every emergency. | Assign a frontline fighter and medic so survival responsibilities are shared. |
| Stealth and mobility | Lab Assistant can combine quiet movement with an escape-oriented play style. | Use Lab Assistant as a forward scout while the group follows a safer route. |
| Self-sufficiency | Epimedical Bionomicist supports treatment; Phytogenetic Botanist supports farming and cooking. | Specialists can divide supplies, reducing the need for every player to develop every skill. |
| Trait flexibility | Summer Intern is the safest default while you learn your preferred build. | Flexibility matters less when the party has clearly assigned roles. |
| Infrastructure | Archotechnic Consultant is worthwhile only if you personally want building to be a major activity. | One dedicated builder can keep the whole team supplied and organized. |
Example party compositions
Small balanced group
- Epimedical Bionomicist: medical supplies and treatment.
- Archotechnic Consultant: construction and crafting pipeline.
- Defense Analyst: frontline pressure and protection.
- Lab Assistant or Summer Intern: scouting or flexible utility.
This arrangement covers the four roles most often identified in co-op recommendations: medic, builder, frontline fighter and scout. If your party has fewer players, combine the flexible slot with whichever role is missing rather than duplicating a specialist.
Two-player team
For two players, pairing a medic with a builder leaves both players responsible for combat and exploration; pairing a medic with Defense Analyst creates a clearer combat division but leaves construction less specialized. A Lab Assistant plus Epimedical Bionomicist emphasizes scouting and safety. The best pair depends on which activity you expect to repeat, not on a universal tier order.
How to make your final choice at character creation
- Decide the mode first. Mark whether this character will be alone or part of a persistent co-op group; the value of a team specialist changes dramatically between those modes.
- Write down the role you will perform most. Use “scout,” “medic,” “builder,” “frontliner,” “farmer/cook” or “generalist.” If none clearly dominates, use Summer Intern.
- Compare the displayed bonuses, not an old screenshot. Job values may have changed since the guides summarized here were published.
- Check trait points before confirming. Summer Intern’s reported total is inconsistent across guides, so count the points shown in your own screen.
- Assign the remaining gaps to teammates. In co-op, ask who handles medicine, construction, scouting and direct combat before two players select the same narrow role.
- Reconsider only when your actual play differs. If you spend every session farming, fighting or sneaking despite choosing a generalist, use that experience to inform your next character rather than assuming a tier list is wrong.
How reliable are the published job stats?
The available coverage is not a single authoritative database. Search results for this topic were roughly two to 15 months old as of October 14, 2026, and no 2026-specific guide or official developer job table was found. The numeric Lab Assistant bonuses and the conflicting Summer Intern trait totals therefore need an in-game check.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsUse the guide links as orientation, then trust the current character-creation interface for your build. If a patch changes a bonus, the decision framework still holds: select the job whose displayed strengths cover your biggest solo risk or your party’s largest gap. Avoid treating an old tier label as proof that a job is unusable.
