Best 7 Days to Die Perks Tier List (Version 2.0 and Later)

The strongest all-purpose picks in 7 Days to Die are Rule 1: Cardio, Healing Factor, Pack Mule, and Lucky Looter. They improve the problems almost every character faces: staying effective while moving, recovering between fights, carrying supplies, and finding better loot. Parkour is close behind for mobile characters, while weapon and mining perks become top-tier only when they match your build or your group’s job.

This is a practical, role-based ranking rather than an official score. The 2.0 “Storm’s Brewing” update reorganized the perk system, so older guides that place Lucky Looter under Perception or use the pre-2.0 layout are outdated. Exact perk values can change; use the current in-game tooltip and patch notes before spending points.

How to use this tier list

7 Days to Die has no developer-issued ranking of “best” perks, and community lists do not agree on every choice. A perk that is excellent for a solo scavenger may be irrelevant to a player whose job is mining for a four-person group. The tiers below therefore measure consistency and usefulness across ordinary play, not theoretical maximum damage.

7 Days to Die – Console Edition Survival Bundle - PlayStation 5
  • Explore – Huge, rich environments, with unique biomes and worlds up to 100 square kilometres in size.
  • Craft – Handcraft and repair weapons, clothes, armour, tools, vehicles, with hundreds of recipes and schematics.
  • Build – Design your fort with traps, electricity, auto turrets, and gadgets to survive in a fully destructible and mouldable world.
  • Cooperate or Compete – Work together to build settlements or against each other in a wasteland where zombies and outlaws rule the land.
  • A must-have for collectors and fans of Open-World Survival Horror, the 7 Days to Die – Console Edition Survival Bundle includes the following: An exclusive Artbook with over 100 pages showcasing never-before-seen illustrations of the zombie apocalypse, a CD featuring the haunting Original Soundtrack (OST) of the game, a double-sided poster, Fine art prints x3, Sticker sheets x 3, the physical game, and a collectible tuck-in box housing all the contents.
  • S tier: reliable value for most characters, regardless of weapon specialization.
  • A tier: excellent when your play style, weapon line, or group role supports it.
  • B or conditional: useful utility, but usually delayed until a specific problem appears.

Community guides most consistently elevate Rule 1: Cardio, Healing Factor, Pack Mule, and Lucky Looter. Parkour appears near the top in several lists. Weapon perks and Mother Lode produce more disagreement because their value depends heavily on what you use and what your team needs.

Tier list at a glance

Tier Perks Best use Why the ranking changes
S Rule 1: Cardio Almost every character It is the most consistent pick across community lists and supports the basic demands of exploration and combat.
S Healing Factor Solo players, explorers, frequent fighters Its commonly described benefit is health regeneration outside combat, reducing downtime after damage.
S Pack Mule Looters, builders, traders, resource gatherers Extra inventory capacity prevents trips from ending as soon as your pack fills.
S Lucky Looter Scavengers and general-purpose characters It appears on most community lists because better loot affects weapons, tools, armor, and supplies.
A Parkour Mobile solo builds and players who fight around terrain Its value is high when jumping and repositioning are central to your survival plan; less so for stationary or heavily fortified play.
A, role-dependent Mother Lode The designated miner in a group One community list places it in a top tier, while another treats it as defining mainly for a group’s miner.
A, weapon-dependent Dead Eye, Machine Gunner, Pummel Pete Characters committed to the corresponding weapon line They are strong investments only when you actually use that weapon family often enough to benefit from specialization.
B, utility-dependent Light Armor, Medium Armor, Heavy Armor, Master Chef, Living off the Land, Lock Picking Specific armor, food, farming, or access plans These perks moved to the General Perks tab in 2.0 and are valuable when they solve a chosen role rather than as universal first picks.

S-tier perks: the safest early investments

Rule 1: Cardio

Rule 1: Cardio is the closest thing to a consensus first-choice perk. Multiple community guides place it at or near the top, and it does not require you to commit to a particular firearm, melee weapon, or team assignment. That makes it a dependable opening investment for a new character and a low-regret choice when you are still learning your server’s loot, terrain, and quest routes.

Take it early when your character spends substantial time travelling between points of interest, escaping infected groups, or repositioning during fights. If your build is already comfortable with movement and you are struggling with a more specific bottleneck, postpone additional ranks and solve that bottleneck instead. The tier reflects broad applicability, not a requirement to max it immediately.

Healing Factor

Healing Factor is described in community coverage as out-of-combat health regeneration. Its strength is tempo: after an encounter, you can recover without treating every scratch as a reason to abandon an expedition. That matters most for solo players, who cannot rely on a teammate to cover recovery time, and for explorers who chain several buildings together.

It is less urgent when your group already supplies dependable healing or when you rarely take damage. It also does not replace defensive play; regeneration applies outside combat according to the perk’s current description, so it should not be treated as an emergency combat heal. Read the live tooltip for the current rate and restrictions rather than relying on numbers from an older guide.

  • Farm or Hunt – Plant gardens for sustainable resources or head out to the wilderness and hunt over a dozen unique animals.

Pack Mule

Pack Mule addresses one of the most common progression brakes: reaching a point of interest, finding useful materials, and having to leave because the inventory is full. It is especially effective for builders, traders, and resource gatherers who routinely carry blocks, tools, ammunition, food, and quest loot at the same time.

Several community pages quote a specific inventory increase, but that figure was not verified against the current game and should not be treated as a universal value. Judge the perk by the live inventory result shown on your character screen. If your play sessions are short and you return to storage often, delay it; if full bags are repeatedly costing you loot or travel time, its practical value can exceed another point of damage specialization.

Lucky Looter

Lucky Looter is a broadly useful scavenging perk. Better loot quality can improve several parts of progression at once, including equipment, tools, ammunition, and consumables. That is why it appears on most community lists even though not every player ranks it at the same point in the opening hours.

Do not carry over the old assumption that Lucky Looter belongs under Perception. The official 2.0 “Storm’s Brewing” release notes added a General Perks tab and moved Lucky Looter there. Older Fandom-style pages and guides written for the pre-2.0 structure can therefore show a layout that no longer applies. Community pages also quote percentage increases for its ranks, but those values were not verified here; use the current tooltip for your edition and patch.

A-tier and conditional picks

Parkour

Parkour is a high-value mobility choice for characters that cross uneven terrain, use vertical routes, or depend on jumping to create distance. The official 2.0 patch information gives a clear example of its scaling: jump stamina cost is reduced by 10% to 50% across its levels. That range is tied to the perk’s level progression, so check the current in-game description before planning an exact point-by-point route.

Rank #3
7 Days to Die (PS4)
  • Unlimited hours of gameplay
  • Explore - Huge, unique and rich environments, offering the freedom to play the game however you want
  • Craft - craft and repair weapons, clothes, armour, tools, vehicles, and more
  • Build - Take over a ruin, or build from the ground-up. Design your fortress to include traps and defensive positions to survive the undead
  • Cooperate or Compete - Includes two player split screen mode, with support for up to 4 players online, in Player versus Player, co-op survival, or co-op creative modes

Parkour rises toward S tier for a mobile solo build and falls toward B tier for a player who stays inside a fortified base or fights almost entirely from fixed positions. It also competes with survival, inventory, and weapon investments, so take the first rank when movement is repeatedly causing failures, then reassess before buying more.

Mother Lode

Mother Lode is the clearest example of a perk whose tier depends on team structure. One community list places it in a top tier; another calls it the defining perk for a group’s miner but notes that it matters mainly in group play. Both views can be correct. If you are responsible for producing the ore and stone that everyone else consumes, mining efficiency has a compound effect on the whole base. If you play alone and spend little time underground, general survival or loot perks usually return value sooner.

Assign the role before spending heavily: agree who mines, who handles farming, and who concentrates on combat. A dedicated miner can justify early Mother Lode ranks; a rotating group should avoid several players duplicating the same specialization unless the resource demand supports it.

Weapon-line perks

Dead Eye, Machine Gunner, and Pummel Pete should not be ranked in isolation. Community guidance commonly associates Machine Gunner with Fortitude, Pummel Pete with Strength, and Dead Eye with Perception, but those are build paths rather than universal instructions. A player who has committed to machine guns can reasonably treat Machine Gunner as an S-tier damage investment for that character. A player still switching between weapon types may get more from Cardio, Healing Factor, Pack Mule, or Lucky Looter.

Use three checks before buying a weapon perk:

  1. Confirm that the weapon family is the one you actually carry for most encounters.
  2. Check whether your attribute investment unlocks the next useful perk level without starving broader survival needs.
  3. Ask whether the point solves a current problem, such as failed kills or ammunition efficiency, rather than a hypothetical late-game problem.

What changed in the 2.0 perk system

The 2.0 “Storm’s Brewing” update introduced a General Perks tab for perks that do not need to be governed by a particular attribute. The release notes specifically list Light Armor, Medium Armor, Heavy Armor, Master Chef, Living off the Land, Lock Picking, and Lucky Looter as moved to that tab. This is the key version distinction behind conflicting online tier lists.

7 Days to Die - PlayStation 4
  • Explore & Craft - Huge, unique and rich environments, offering the freedom to play the game any way you want while you craft and repair weapons, clothes, armor, tools, vehicles, and more.
  • Build - Take over a ruin, or build from the ground-up. Design your fortress to include traps and defensive positions to survive the undead - the world is fully destructible and moldable.
  • Cooperate or Compete - Includes two player split screen mode, with additional online multiplayer modes and features to be revealed in the near future.
  • Create - Unleash your creativity and build the ultimate world by yourself friends. Enjoy unlimited access to nearly 400 in-game items and 1,200 unique building blocks in creative mode.
  • Improve - Increase your skills in a multitude of active and passive disciplines. 7 to Die is the only true survival RPG with nearly 50 multi-tiered skill and perk groups.

The same release notes describe a regular structure of 10 perks per attribute, with five levels for each perk. Every attribute also has a Mastery perk set that becomes available starting at attribute level 6. In practice, that means you should plan both the perk you want and the attribute threshold that unlocks its later progression.

The update also provides concrete examples of rank scaling. Parkour’s jump-stamina reduction runs from 10% to 50% over its levels, and Siphoning Strikes grants 5 to 25 HP from melee kills. These examples demonstrate why old “one number” summaries can mislead: a perk’s first rank and final rank may serve very different purposes. Treat those figures as the values reported in the official 2.0 patch information and verify your current tooltip after subsequent patches.

Recommended priorities by character type

Character or team job Suggested opening direction Perks to delay
Solo generalist Start with the broad S-tier options, then add Parkour if terrain and escapes are constant problems. Deep weapon specialization until you know which weapon you keep.
Dedicated looter or quest runner Lucky Looter, Pack Mule, and movement support form a practical exploration core. Mother Lode unless you also mine regularly.
Front-line fighter Healing Factor for recovery, then the weapon perk matching your main line. Several competing weapon families at once.
Group miner Mother Lode becomes an early candidate once the team agrees that mining is your assignment. Duplicating the same mining specialization on players who rarely mine.
Builder and resource hauler Pack Mule first when inventory limits are ending trips; add armor, food, or farming utility to match the base plan. Loot-focused ranks if your group already has a dedicated scavenger and your own work produces few containers.
Food or farm specialist Use the General Perks options Master Chef or Living off the Land when food production is your defined responsibility. Buying every General perk simply because it is available.

These are starting frameworks, not mandatory builds. Re-evaluate after several in-game days: the best perk is the one removing the obstacle that is consuming the most time, health, ammunition, or travel.

A step-by-step method for choosing perks

  1. Identify the repeated failure. Is the problem stamina and travel, post-fight recovery, full inventory, weak loot, a specific weapon, or missing resources?
  2. Choose the broad fix first. For problems shared by nearly every activity, compare Rule 1: Cardio, Healing Factor, Pack Mule, and Lucky Looter before selecting a narrow specialization.
  3. Lock in your weapon only when evidence supports it. If you are carrying one family consistently and its damage is limiting progression, its matching weapon perk can move ahead of general utility.
  4. Coordinate group jobs. Decide who mines, farms, cooks, opens locks, or specializes in combat so that several players do not spend points solving the same need.
  5. Check the current perk screen. Read the level-by-level effect, attribute requirement, and whether the perk appears under General or an attribute. Do this especially for Lucky Looter and any page written before 2.0.
  6. Stop at the useful breakpoint. A first rank that fixes today’s problem can be better than immediately pursuing maximum ranks. Save points for the next attribute threshold or a new survival need.

Common tier-list mistakes

Treating one build as universal

A damage perk can look weak only because the reviewer was using another weapon. Conversely, a miner’s favorite perk can appear overrated to a solo player who spends little time underground. Always attach a tier to a role.

Using pre-2.0 information

If a guide places Lucky Looter under Perception or shows no General Perks tab, it is describing the earlier structure. The 2.0 release notes supersede that layout.

Trusting copied numbers

Search snippets and community pages repeat values that may belong to a different version. The commonly quoted Pack Mule inventory bonus, Lucky Looter percentage progression, and Parkour fall-damage claim were not verified for the current game. Do not build a plan around them until the in-game description confirms them.

Ignoring opportunity cost

Every point spent on a narrow perk is a point unavailable for recovery, carrying capacity, mobility, or loot. Compare the time saved by the specialization with the broader problem your character is currently experiencing.

Assuming popularity equals performance

No published pick-rate, win-rate, or popularity statistics were identified for these perks. “Most recommended” means repeated appearance in community guides, not a measured statistical advantage.

How to verify a perk before committing points

Open the current character perk screen, select the perk, and inspect every available level rather than only the name. Confirm its tab, attribute requirement, effect at the next rank, and any condition such as melee kills, out-of-combat recovery, or a particular weapon. Then compare that information with the version number shown by your game or server.

  • If the tab or requirement differs from an online guide, trust the live game for your character’s patch.
  • If a guide supplies a percentage or inventory figure without identifying a version, treat it as unverified.
  • Record the perk’s practical result during your own play session: fewer return trips, less recovery time, more successful escapes, or better resource output.
  • Recheck after a major update; the 2.0 restructuring shows that perk location and progression rules can change, not just the numbers.

Final ranking

For a new or broadly capable character, begin by considering Rule 1: Cardio, Healing Factor, Pack Mule, and Lucky Looter in the order dictated by your immediate problem. Add Parkour when movement is central to your survival. Promote a weapon perk to the top only after choosing that weapon line, and promote Mother Lode when you are genuinely the group’s miner. The 2.0 system rewards deliberate role planning: General Perks cover several cross-attribute utilities, attributes contain 10 five-level perks, and Mastery begins at attribute level 6. Use the tier list to narrow the choice, then let the current tooltip and your actual play pattern make the final decision.
