For most buyers, the Hisense PX3-PRO is the strongest starting point among the documented options: it is listed with 3,000 ANSI lumens, a 0.22:1 throw ratio, RGB-laser illumination, and an 80–150-inch image range. Its 4K output is created by four-phase pixel shifting from a native 1080p DLP chip, however, and an independent review measured 2,669 ANSI lumens rather than the rated 3,000. That distinction matters as much as the headline resolution.
The Samsung Premiere 9 is the premium placement and brightness comparison, while the Epson EpiqVision Ultra LS800 is relevant mainly as remaining stock or a used-market option because a separate specification listing reported it discontinued in June 2026. The discontinued Samsung Premiere LSP9T should not be treated as a current new-buy recommendation without verified stock. Prices and availability change quickly, so confirm both immediately before ordering.

What a 4K ultra-short-throw projector actually does
An ultra-short-throw (UST) projector sits close to the wall and uses an angled optical path to create a large image. Its throw ratio is the lens-to-screen distance divided by image width. A 0.22:1 ratio therefore means the optical distance is about 22 percent of the projected image’s width, although the distance from the back of the cabinet to the wall will be different because the lens is not at the cabinet’s rear edge.

That distinction is why a throw-ratio headline is not a complete installation measurement. UST designs are sensitive to a few millimeters of movement: raising or lowering the chassis changes the top edge, and moving it forward changes image size. Use the manufacturer’s placement chart, measure from the correct reference point, and leave room for ventilation and cable bends.
“4K” also describes more than one imaging method. A projector can use a native 3840×2160 imaging device, pixel shifting from a lower-resolution device, or a proprietary enhancement system. Those approaches can all accept and display 4K sources, but fine detail, edge behavior, processing artifacts, and the way motion appears can differ.
How the documented models create their 4K image
Hisense PX3-PRO: four-phase pixel shifting
ProjectorCentral lists the PX3-PRO with 3840×2160 input/output resolution and RGB-laser illumination. Its review identifies a native 1080p 0.47-inch DLP micromirror chip that uses four-phase pixel shifting to create the 3840×2160 image. The output is therefore 4K-enhanced rather than a single native-UHD DLP chip addressing every 3840×2160 pixel at once.
Recommended Free Tools
The review measured 94.34 percent xy and 94.78 percent uv BT.2020 coverage, plus 99.82 percent xy and 99.78 percent uv DCI-P3 coverage. Those are review-sample measurements, not manufacturer guarantees. It also measured just over 4,000:1 contrast, compared with the listed 3,000:1 native-contrast specification. Treat the measured figures as useful context, not as a promise that every unit will produce identical results.
Epson LS800: 4K PRO-UHD enhancement
The LS800 uses Epson’s 4K PRO-UHD detail-enhancement approach. ProjectorCentral’s buyer guide describes it as doubling the native 1080p chip pixel count rather than displaying a full native-UHD pixel count. That makes it a different implementation from a native 3840×2160 imaging device and from the PX3-PRO’s four-phase DLP shifting.
Why the distinction matters in a room
At ordinary television distances, seating distance and screen size determine how visible those differences are. On a very large screen viewed from close range, fine text, subtitles, computer interfaces, and high-contrast edges make image-processing differences easier to notice. Ask whether you value maximum pixel-level detail, low placement depth, brightness, or a particular smart and gaming platform; no single “4K” label answers all four.

Brightness: ratings, measurements, and room light
Brightness ratings are useful for comparing a model with itself and for estimating whether it belongs in a light-controlled room or a living room with daylight. They are not interchangeable measurements across every brand or unit standard. ANSI lumens and ISO lumens use different test conventions, so the PX3-PRO’s 3,000 ANSI-lumen rating should not be treated as directly equivalent to the Premiere 9’s 3,450 ISO-lumen rating.

ProjectorCentral measured 2,669 ANSI lumens on its PX3-PRO sample in the brightest modes, against the 3,000 ANSI-lumen rating. The gap does not automatically mean a faulty projector; test mode, calibration, lens settings, and measurement method affect the result. Use the rating for a broad class of brightness and the review measurement for a reality check.
A larger image spreads the available light over more area. The PX3-PRO review specifically found that its 150-inch image could benefit from more light with the 0.6-gain lenticular screen used in testing. If you plan to use 150 inches, have daylight entering the room, or want a punchy HDR picture, prioritize light control and screen performance rather than assuming the largest advertised size will look equally bright.
- Dark or controlled room: You have more flexibility in screen size and picture mode.
- Daylight or open-plan room: Close blinds, reduce reflections, and consider a UST ambient-light-rejecting screen before moving to a larger image.
- Large screen: Expect lower brightness per unit of area; a smaller image can look more vibrant at the same projector setting.
- HDR: Verify how the projector tone-maps HDR and whether its brightest modes preserve acceptable color. Brightness alone does not establish HDR quality.
Placement and screen-size planning
Measure the wall before choosing a model. Record the usable wall width, ceiling height, furniture depth, outlet locations, viewing distance, and the clearance available behind the intended screen. Then compare those measurements with the projector’s placement chart rather than relying only on throw ratio.
PX3-PRO placement range
The review reports that the PX3-PRO produced 80–150-inch images from roughly 4.7–18.1 inches from the wall. Those distances describe the reviewed setup and should be treated as an installation reference, not a substitute for the model’s official chart. At the top end of the range, the reviewer found that the 150-inch picture could use more light with the test screen.

ProjectorCentral’s Premiere 9 review gives concrete placement distances of 4.4 inches for a 100-inch image, 7.7 inches for 120 inches, and 9.4 inches for 130 inches. The review also reports a 0.189:1 throw ratio and Samsung’s 3,450 ISO-lumen rating. Because those figures come from a review, confirm the current installation diagram and cabinet dimensions before drilling or fixing furniture in place.

Why cabinet depth changes the real clearance
Throw distance is measured from the optical reference point, not necessarily from the back panel. A projector can therefore require more wall-to-furniture depth than the ratio suggests. Include space for the chassis, power plug, HDMI or network cables, ventilation, and access to controls. A screen frame can also project farther forward than its fabric surface, so measure to the actual optical surface.
Choose the screen as part of the projector system
A UST projector and a conventional matte screen are not automatically interchangeable. UST-compatible ambient-light-rejecting (ALR) screens use a directional surface designed for light arriving from below. A conventional ceiling-light-rejecting or standard matte material may produce hotspots, uneven brightness, or a washed-out image when paired with a floor-facing UST projector.
Check four screen attributes together:
- UST compatibility: The screen should explicitly support an ultra-short-throw optical path.
- Image size: Match the screen’s visible area to the projector’s supported range and your seating distance.
- Gain: Higher gain can increase on-axis brightness but may narrow viewing uniformity or make surface artifacts more visible.
- Ambient-light behavior: Directional ALR material can improve contrast in a bright room, but it cannot eliminate direct sunlight or every reflection.
ProjectorCentral’s PX3-PRO review used a 0.6-gain lenticular screen and still noted that the 150-inch image could benefit from more light. That is a reminder to evaluate the projector and screen as a matched system. If you are projecting directly onto a wall, a flat, neutral-colored surface is essential; texture and paint sheen become conspicuous at UST angles.
Model-by-model guidance
Hisense PX3-PRO
The PX3-PRO is the most balanced documented candidate for a new installation. ProjectorCentral lists 3,000 ANSI lumens, RGB-laser illumination, a 0.22:1 throw ratio, 3840×2160 input/output, and an 80–150-inch image range. The review adds measured color and contrast data, confirms the four-phase pixel-shifting design, and reports automatic keystone correction.
Use it when you want a broad image-size range and a laser UST design without treating “4K” as proof of native-UHD imaging. Plan carefully at 150 inches: the review found that the largest image could use more light with its test screen. Automatic keystone can help correct a small setup error, but it should not replace physical alignment. Digital correction can reduce effective resolution or introduce scaling artifacts.
Samsung Premiere 9 (LPU9D)
The Premiere 9 is the premium comparison in the available evidence. ProjectorCentral’s review reports a 3,450 ISO-lumen rating and a 0.189:1 throw ratio, with placement examples that keep a 100-inch image only 4.4 inches from the wall, a 120-inch image 7.7 inches away, and a 130-inch image 9.4 inches away.

With AWOL ALR Daylight screen, enjoy bright, clear images even during the day. Best with 150” screen to replace traditional TVs for an unmatched big-screen experience.
That short placement can solve a furniture-depth problem or leave more room for a large screen. It does not remove the need to verify cabinet dimensions, screen height, current firmware, ports, smart-platform support, and live pricing. The evidence supplied here does not establish a universal winner between it and the PX3-PRO, so choose based on your measured wall clearance and feature requirements.
Epson EpiqVision Ultra LS800
The LS800 is notable for its 0.16:1 throw ratio and a 4,000 ANSI/ISO-lumen rating reported in ProjectorCentral’s buyer guide. Its 4K PRO-UHD system doubles the native 1080p chip pixel count rather than displaying a full native-UHD pixel grid.
A separate specification listing reported the model discontinued in June 2026. Treat it as a remaining-stock or used-market comparison only after checking that a seller has a legitimate warranty, replacement remote, compatible firmware, and a return policy. A low used price is not a bargain if the laser engine, optical block, or proprietary accessories are difficult to service.
Samsung Premiere LSP9T
ProjectorCentral marks the LSP9T discontinued in February 2025. Its historical specifications are 2,800 ANSI lumens and a 0.19:1 throw ratio. Do not present it as a current new purchase unless you verify live stock and warranty coverage. For a used unit, inspect uniformity, focus across the entire image, laser-hours information if available, HDMI behavior, and the seller’s return terms before committing.
Smart, HDR, and gaming checks before purchase
The available specifications do not establish identical smart-TV software, HDR formats, input lag, refresh-rate support, or connectivity across these models. Confirm those details on the current regional product page or manual instead of assuming that a premium price includes every feature you need.

- Check whether the apps you use are supported natively in your country and edition.
- Verify Wi-Fi, wired-network, Bluetooth, HDMI-ARC or eARC, and digital-audio outputs against your sound system.
- Confirm whether the projector receives security and app updates, and whether an external streaming device is easier to replace.
HDR
- Look for the supported HDR formats and the projector’s tone-mapping controls.
- Check whether the brightest picture mode has acceptable color or whether calibration requires a lower-light mode.
- Use a screen suited to the projector’s light output; a high-gain surface cannot recover clipped highlights or poor tone mapping.
Gaming
- Verify input lag at the resolution and refresh rate you plan to use; a number measured at one mode does not describe every mode.
- Check HDMI bandwidth, 4K refresh options, variable-refresh support, and automatic low-latency mode.
- Measure your seating distance and screen size. A huge image can be immersive but may make rapid camera movement harder to follow.
Step-by-step buying and installation process
- Measure the room. Mark the wall’s usable width, the screen’s intended top and bottom edges, furniture depth, viewing distance, and daylight sources.
- Set a target image size. Choose the size you can view comfortably, then confirm that the projector supports it. Do not select 150 inches simply because a specification lists it.
- Convert the throw ratio into a starting distance. Multiply the intended image width by the ratio, then consult the placement chart for the exact optical and cabinet clearances.
- Choose the screen material. Select a screen explicitly labeled for UST use, and match gain and ambient-light behavior to the room.
- Verify regional features. Confirm current price, availability, warranty, smart apps, HDMI capabilities, HDR support, and replacement-accessory availability.
- Install physically before using keystone. Level the projector, center it to the screen, and adjust height and distance until the image edges align naturally.
- Run focus and geometry adjustments. Use the projector’s focus and alignment tools only after the chassis is stable. Keep digital keystone corrections as small as possible.
- Calibrate for the room. Start with a suitable picture mode, reduce unnecessary processing, and check white balance, skin tones, shadow detail, subtitles, and fine text.
- Test every source. Play a 4K movie, HDR material, dark scene, bright scene, subtitles, and your intended game console or PC before final cable management.
- Recheck after the screen is fixed. A wall-mounted screen can shift slightly during installation. Confirm focus and all four corners again.
Common mistakes and how to correct them
Buying by lumens alone
A higher rating does not guarantee a better picture if the unit uses a different measurement standard, loses color accuracy in its brightest mode, or is paired with an unsuitable screen. Compare ANSI with ANSI and ISO with ISO where possible, then read independent measurements for context.

Assuming every 4K label means native UHD
Ask which imaging device is inside. The PX3-PRO uses four-phase shifting from a native 1080p DLP chip; the LS800 doubles native 1080p pixel count through 4K PRO-UHD enhancement. Those are legitimate ways to accept and display 4K content, but they are not the same architecture as native UHD.
Ignoring the screen
Direct wall projection or a conventional screen can undermine contrast and uniformity even when the projector is correctly aligned. Budget space and installation time for a UST-compatible screen if the room has ambient light.
Using keystone to hide poor placement
Keystone correction changes the image digitally. It can rescue a minor error, but large corrections discard pixels and may soften text. Move and level the projector first.
Choosing a discontinued model without a service plan
Older UST projectors can be attractive on the used market, but warranty status, firmware, replacement remotes, optical wear, and return rights matter more than the original list price. The LS800 and LSP9T require this extra scrutiny because their reported statuses are discontinued.
How to decide between the current examples
- Choose the PX3-PRO if you want the clearest documented balance of image-size flexibility, RGB-laser illumination, short-throw placement, and current availability evidence, and you accept pixel-shifted rather than native-UHD imaging.
- Choose the Premiere 9 if its measured placement distances solve your furniture or screen problem and its premium features justify the price you confirm at purchase.
- Consider the LS800 only when a verified remaining-stock or used unit offers a compelling warranty and you specifically need its 0.16:1 placement ratio.
- Consider the LSP9T only as a carefully inspected used or old-stock unit; its discontinued status makes it unsuitable as a default new-buy recommendation.
What to verify immediately before ordering
Projector lineups, regional editions, prices, stock, firmware, and warranty terms are volatile. Recheck the exact model number, throw chart, screen-size limits, brightness units, HDR and gaming specifications, smart-app availability, and return policy on the seller’s current listing. Confirm that the screen is designed for UST projection and that its size matches the projector’s usable range.
For the evidence-backed examples here, remember the important qualifications: the PX3-PRO’s 3,000 ANSI-lumen figure is a listed specification while 2,669 ANSI lumens is a ProjectorCentral review measurement; the Premiere 9’s 3,450 figure is an ISO-lumen rating; the LS800’s 4,000 figure is reported as ANSI/ISO in the buyer guide and its model status needs a current check; and the LSP9T is marked discontinued from February 2025.
Final recommendation
Start with the room, not the marketing label. Measure the wall and furniture, select a target screen size, confirm the model’s real clearance chart, and choose a UST-compatible screen. On the documented evidence, the Hisense PX3-PRO is the most practical default shortlist model, while the Samsung Premiere 9 is the premium alternative for buyers who benefit from its very short placement. The Epson LS800 and Samsung Premiere LSP9T belong in a carefully verified used or remaining-stock discussion rather than an unqualified current-buy list.
