For most PS5 owners, the best all-round choice is the ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM if your budget allows a premium display: it combines a 27-inch 3840 × 2160 QD-OLED panel, PS5 4K/120Hz support, excellent contrast, vivid HDR and very fast response. Choose the Acer Nitro XV275K P5biipruzx when a brighter IPS picture suits your room, or the Dell S2725QS when you want a lower-cost 4K/120Hz option and can accept office-oriented motion performance. The less expensive KOORUI S2721PM is a legitimate value option only if you accept 1440p instead of native 4K.

The important qualification is compatibility at the exact signal you will use. A monitor advertising 240Hz is not automatically a working 4K/120Hz PS5 display. Check its HDMI input, firmware, 4K/120Hz mode, HDR and VRR behavior before buying.

Which 4K monitor is best for PS5?

RTINGS’ 2026 PS5 and PS5 Pro recommendations, updated through September 2, 2026, put the ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM at the top overall. Its 27-inch 3840 × 2160 QD-OLED panel accepts the PS5’s 4K/120Hz signal, gives you OLED-level contrast and vivid HDR color, and has very fast response. Its high-end positioning and the way black areas can look purple in a bright room are the main reasons not every player should buy it.

The Dell Alienware AW2725Q is an upper-mid-range QD-OLED alternative with HDMI 2.1 4K support and similar strengths. RTINGS reports less accurate, dimmer HDR than the leading model and no monitor audio jack. The Acer Nitro XV275K P5biipruzx is the practical LCD choice: its 27-inch 4K IPS panel and HDMI 2.1 inputs handle PS5 signals, and it gets brighter than the listed OLED options. In a dark room, however, its lower native contrast can make blacks look gray unless local dimming is available and effective.

The Dell S2725QS is a budget 4K/120Hz candidate for PS5 Pro, but it is designed more like an office monitor and has weaker motion handling and no local dimming. At the low end, the KOORUI S2721PM supports 1440p at 120Hz or downscaled 4K at 60Hz and supports PS5 VRR; it is not a native-4K/120Hz monitor.

What the PS5 can actually send to a monitor

4K at 120Hz is a supported output mode

Sony PlayStation Support states: “The PS5 console supports the HDMI 2.1 specification, and it also supports 4K 120Hz video output.” Sony also explains that 4K is almost four times the definition of standard 1080p HD. That describes the console’s output capability, not a promise that every game renders internally at 3840 × 2160 and 120 frames per second.

The PS5’s maximum output refresh rate is 120Hz. A 240Hz monitor can still be useful if you connect a gaming PC later, but its additional refresh capacity does not make the PS5 output faster than 120Hz. For a console-only purchase, prioritize a reliable 4K/120Hz mode, HDR and VRR over a headline refresh number.

HDMI 2.1 helps, but the label is not enough

HDMI 2.1 bandwidth is the clearest route to 4K/120Hz, yet the monitor must expose that mode on the particular HDMI input used by the console. RTINGS’ signal testing also shows that some monitors with HDMI 2.0 bandwidth can accept PS5 HDMI Forum VRR. Conversely, a product family can contain models with different signal behavior. Read the tested input and mode information for the exact model, not just the panel resolution or series name.

VRR and HDR must work at your chosen signal

Variable refresh rate (VRR) synchronizes the display’s refresh timing with the console’s output to reduce tearing and uneven motion. High dynamic range (HDR) expands brightness and color range when the game and display both support it. Check whether VRR and HDR operate simultaneously at 4K/120Hz, rather than assuming that each feature works simply because it appears somewhere in the specification sheet.

Detailed picks and who should buy them

ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM: best overall

This is the strongest match when you want a compact desk display without compromising the PS5’s highest supported signal. The 27-inch 3840 × 2160 QD-OLED panel gives fine text and game detail at typical desk distance, while OLED pixels provide very deep blacks and strong contrast. RTINGS reports vivid HDR color and very fast response, both useful for action games and competitive play.

Acer Nitro 27in 4K 3840x2160 IPS 160Hz DFR 320Hz Gaming Monitor VG270K V4 | 0.5ms, AMD FreeSync Premium, 2xHDMI 2.1, DisplayPort, Speaker, VESA Mountable, Bluelight Filter, Flickerless Technology
  • Quality Visuals: The VG270K 27" IPS monitor with 3840 x 2160 UHD resolution in a 16:9 aspect ratio presents stunning, high-quality images with excellent detail. The zero-frame design does away with the thick frames found on conventional monitors freeing up precious screen space.
  • AMD FreeSync Premium Technology: Say “goodbye” to stuttering and tearing. With AMD FreeSync Premium, the monitor’s frames are synced with the graphics card’s frames, which eliminates screen tearing and provides the smoothest gaming experience.
  • Quick Refresh Rate: Different content has different refresh rate and resolution requirements. If you are playing an FPS or racing game, you will need a monitor with a high refresh rate. However, if you are doing office work or streaming videos, a higher resolution will be more beneficial. With DFR technology, users can choose a higher resolution, or a higher refresh rate based on what is suitable for them.
  • Responsive: Up to 0.5ms GTG (Gray to Gray) response time enhanced gamers’ in-game experience. No matter if the fast-moving action or any dramatic transitions will be rendered smoothly without the annoying effects of smearing or ghosting.
  • ZeroFrame Design: With a Nitro VG270K monitor, you’ll want to see as much of the display as possible. Get more real estate with the near bezel-less design, allowing you to see more and do more. The ZeroFrame design lets you place multiple monitors next to each other for a seamless, almost uninterrupted view.

The 240Hz maximum is mainly a benefit for a connected PC; the PS5 itself remains limited to 120Hz. The other concern is room lighting. RTINGS notes that black areas can look purple in bright rooms, so place this monitor away from direct sunlight or strong lamps if accurate dark scenes matter to you. Its high-end positioning also makes it difficult to justify when you mostly play slower games or sit far enough away that 27-inch 4K detail is not a priority.

Dell Alienware AW2725Q: upper-mid-range OLED alternative

The AW2725Q offers the same basic appeal as other QD-OLED displays: 4K detail, strong contrast and saturated color. Its HDMI 2.1 support handles the PS5’s 4K signal, making it a sensible choice when you want OLED image quality but do not need every feature of the flagship model.

RTINGS reports that its HDR is less accurate and dimmer than the leading option. It also lacks a monitor audio jack. Confirm your intended audio arrangement before purchase, especially if you normally connect headphones to the display rather than directly to the console or a separate audio device.

Acer Nitro XV275K P5biipruzx: best bright-room LCD choice

This 27-inch 4K IPS monitor is the better fit for a bright room or a desk where OLED’s dark-scene behavior is distracting. RTINGS reports that it reaches higher brightness than the listed OLED alternatives and supports the relevant PS5 signals through HDMI 2.1 bandwidth. IPS viewing angles are also practical when more than one person watches the screen.

The compromise is contrast. Without effective local dimming, dark-room blacks can look gray rather than black, and native contrast is lower than on the OLED picks. If you play atmospheric games mostly at night, compare your room lighting and black-level priorities before choosing brightness alone.

Dell S2725QS: budget 4K/120Hz path for PS5 Pro

The S2725QS is aimed at buyers who want native 4K and a 4K/120Hz option without moving into premium pricing. RTINGS identifies it as a budget choice for PS5 Pro. It is office-oriented, has no local dimming and has weaker motion handling than the more expensive recommendations.

Samsung 27" Odyssey G5 (G51F) Series QHD (1440P) Gaming Monitor | 180Hz, 1ms, AMD FreeSync, HDR10, Height Adj Stand, Black Equalizer, Virtual Aim Point, Auto Source Switch+ (LS27FG512ENXZA)
  • QHD Resolution (2560 x 1440) has 1.7 times the pixel density of Full HD for incredibly detailed pinsharp images
  • HDR10 provides brighter highlights and nuanced shadow for added depth - making every scene feel more vivid and realistic
  • The 180Hz refresh rate minimizes lag for gameplay with ultra-smooth action. Plus, the 1ms response time helps capture your moves in real-time, allowing you to react fast for gaming precision
  • AMD FreeSync reduces choppiness, screen lag and image tearing, ensuring that your fast-paced, complex in-game action is stable with minimal stutter
  • Ergonomic stand allows for tilt, pivot and height adjustments to maximize gaming comfort

That makes it a sensible value display for mixed work and casual console use, not the best option for a player who is especially sensitive to blur or wants strong HDR impact. Treat the 4K/120Hz support as the reason to consider it, while recognizing that other aspects of the image and motion system are less ambitious.

KOORUI S2721PM: low-cost alternative when 1440p is acceptable

The S2721PM is the honest budget compromise. It can run a PS5 at 1440p/120Hz or accept a 4K signal and downscale it to 60Hz, and RTINGS reports PS5 VRR support. That can produce smooth play at a lower resolution than native 4K.

Do not describe it as a 4K/120Hz monitor: it is 1440p, and its 4K mode is downscaled 4K/60Hz. Choose it when refresh rate and price matter more than maximum pixel detail, or when your seating distance makes the difference less noticeable.

AOC Q27G3XMN: a compatibility warning

RTINGS reports that this model does not support PS5 VRR. That does not make every non-4K display unusable, but it demonstrates why console compatibility must be checked at the signal level. A monitor can have a suitable resolution, refresh-rate claim or adaptive-sync branding and still omit the specific VRR implementation the PS5 needs.

How panel type and room lighting change the choice

Choose OLED for contrast and response

OLED is most compelling in a controlled or dim room. Each pixel can produce very dark blacks, so shadow detail and HDR contrast look more dramatic than on a conventional LCD without strong local dimming. The QD-OLED recommendations also combine that contrast with vivid color and fast response.

Bright ambient light changes the result. Reflections and the reported purple cast in black areas can reduce the advantage of OLED during daytime play. If you cannot control room lighting, the brighter Acer IPS option may look more consistent even though its native contrast is lower.

Choose IPS LCD for brightness and predictable daylight viewing

IPS LCD models can deliver a brighter image and are often easier to share across a room because of their viewing angles. The trade-off is gray-looking black in a dark room when local dimming is absent or limited. The Acer model is the strongest LCD candidate in this group because RTINGS specifically reports HDMI 2.1 compatibility and higher brightness than the listed OLED monitors.

Local dimming is not a substitute for verified HDR

Local dimming can improve LCD contrast by controlling backlight zones, but its presence alone does not establish good HDR accuracy, brightness or motion. The cited budget Dell model has no local dimming, while the Acer’s dark-room limitation is described in terms of native contrast and black appearance. Evaluate HDR behavior at the PS5 signal you will actually use.

Pick the right size and viewing distance

A 27-inch screen is the common sweet spot in these recommendations because it keeps 4K pixels dense at a close desk distance. TechRadar’s general guidance treats up to 32 inches as a practical upper size for close desk setups, with resolution, refresh rate, panel type and budget linked rather than independent decisions.

  • Choose 27 inches when you sit close and want crisp menus, text and fine game detail.
  • Consider up to 32 inches when your desk is deeper or you sit farther back, provided the model still supports the required PS5 signal.
  • Do not buy a larger panel solely to obtain a higher refresh number; PS5 output still tops out at 120Hz.

Verify compatibility before you buy

Use this checklist for the exact model and regional variant:

  1. Confirm native resolution. A true 4K monitor should state 3840 × 2160. A 1440p model may accept a 4K input but display it downscaled.
  2. Check the HDMI input, not only DisplayPort. The console connects through HDMI, and the input must accept 4K at 120Hz if that is your target.
  3. Look for tested PS5 4K/120Hz support. Maximum monitor refresh rate by itself is not proof.
  4. Verify VRR at the same resolution and refresh rate. Confirm whether PS5 HDMI Forum VRR is supported, and whether it can operate with HDR.
  5. Check HDR behavior. Look for evidence of usable brightness and accurate HDR, not merely an HDR logo.
  6. Confirm firmware and cable requirements. A monitor may need a firmware update, and the cable must be rated for the signal.
  7. Check physical fit. Measure desk depth, stand footprint and viewing distance before selecting 27 or 32 inches.

Connect a PS5 for 4K/120Hz

Sony’s official connection instructions specify the HDMI cable included with the PS5. Connect the console’s HDMI OUT to the monitor’s HDMI IN, using the input identified for the required bandwidth.

  1. Turn off the console and monitor.
  2. Connect the included or appropriately rated Ultra High-Speed HDMI cable directly from PS5 HDMI OUT to the monitor’s compatible HDMI IN. Avoid passing the signal through an unverified receiver, switch or capture device while troubleshooting.
  3. Update the monitor firmware if the manufacturer provides an update that affects HDMI, VRR or HDR behavior.
  4. On the PS5, open Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output. Set resolution and refresh-related options to Automatic or to the supported 4K/120Hz configuration shown by the monitor.
  5. Enable VRR and 120 Hz Output when the monitor is confirmed to support them. Turn on HDR only after the display reports a valid HDR signal, then adjust the PS5 HDR calibration screens.
  6. On the monitor, select the correct HDMI input and enable its full-bandwidth, HDMI 2.1 or enhanced mode if the on-screen menu provides one.
  7. Open the PS5 video-output information screen and verify the reported resolution, 120Hz capability, HDR and VRR status.

Troubleshoot a missing 4K/120Hz signal

The monitor shows 4K but only 60Hz

  • Move the cable to the monitor’s HDMI input that supports the required bandwidth; some displays have mixed HDMI inputs.
  • Replace an older or damaged cable with the PS5-included cable or a certified Ultra High-Speed HDMI cable.
  • Confirm that the monitor menu is not set to a compatibility mode that limits bandwidth.
  • Connect the PS5 directly to the monitor and temporarily remove switches, receivers and capture hardware.
  • Install current monitor firmware, restart both devices, and recheck the PS5 Video Output screen.

4K/120Hz works but VRR does not

  • Verify that the exact model supports PS5 HDMI Forum VRR; adaptive-sync support for a PC does not guarantee console VRR.
  • Check whether the monitor requires a specific HDMI mode or firmware version.
  • Test VRR with HDR disabled and then enabled to identify a mode interaction.
  • Review the PS5 VRR setting and restart the console after changing it.

HDR looks washed out or unexpectedly dim

  • Confirm that HDR is enabled on both the PS5 and monitor.
  • Use the monitor’s HDR picture mode only when an HDR signal is detected; an SDR signal forced into HDR can look incorrect.
  • Repeat the PS5 HDR calibration after the monitor has switched into its HDR mode.
  • Remember that RTINGS reports different HDR performance between the OLED models; support for HDR does not mean identical brightness or accuracy.

PS5 versus PS5 Pro considerations

The same 4K/120Hz verification matters for both consoles. The cited recommendations specifically identify the Dell S2725QS as a budget 4K/120Hz option for PS5 Pro, while the KOORUI S2721PM is presented as a lower-cost base-PS5 candidate with 1440p/120Hz or downscaled 4K/60Hz. Do not infer that a monitor’s performance on one console guarantees the same combination of modes on the other; check the model’s documented signal table.

Neither console turns every title into a 4K/120fps experience. Sony documents output capabilities, while individual games choose their own resolution and performance modes. Verify a game’s own settings or documentation before promising a particular frame rate.

Match the monitor to your priorities

Your priority Best direction Why
Best image quality at a close desk ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM 4K/120Hz PS5 support, QD-OLED contrast, vivid HDR and fast response
OLED picture at a somewhat lower tier Dell Alienware AW2725Q QD-OLED and HDMI 2.1 4K support, with dimmer and less accurate HDR
Bright room or daytime play Acer Nitro XV275K P5biipruzx Brighter IPS presentation and compatible PS5 HDMI 2.1 signals
Lower-cost native 4K, especially with PS5 Pro Dell S2725QS 4K/120Hz option, accepting weaker motion and no local dimming
Lowest cost with 120Hz priority KOORUI S2721PM 1440p/120Hz and PS5 VRR, but no native 4K/120Hz

Buying mistakes to avoid

  • Equating 240Hz with PS5 performance. The console cannot output above 120Hz.
  • Assuming every HDMI port is identical. Verify which input supports 4K/120Hz.
  • Calling a downscaled signal native 4K. The KOORUI S2721PM’s 4K mode is 60Hz and downscaled.
  • Assuming PC adaptive sync equals PS5 VRR. The AOC Q27G3XMN example shows that console VRR must be checked separately.
  • Ignoring the room. OLED strengths are easiest to appreciate in controlled light; brighter IPS can be more comfortable in daylight.
  • Expecting universal 4K/120fps gaming. The monitor and console can support the output mode, but game rendering modes vary.
  • Skipping firmware and cable checks. Sony specifically recommends checking display support, firmware, the rated cable, direct connection, the correct HDMI port and PS5 video settings when 4K/120Hz fails.

Bottom line

Buy the ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM for the strongest combination of PS5 4K/120Hz compatibility, OLED contrast, HDR color and response speed. Select the Acer Nitro XV275K P5biipruzx for a brighter IPS image, the Dell Alienware AW2725Q for a less premium QD-OLED route, or the Dell S2725QS for budget native 4K with weaker motion. If your budget is tighter, the KOORUI S2721PM is worthwhile only when 1440p/120Hz is an intentional choice. Whichever model you choose, verify the exact HDMI input, firmware, cable, VRR and HDR behavior rather than relying on the maximum refresh-rate label.
