The Epson Pro Cinema LS12000 is the safest all-round recommendation if you need verified 4K/120 gaming and serious movie performance. Epson specifies gaming up to 4K at 120 frames per second with input lag below 20 ms (measured using Epson’s method). For a very large installation, Epson’s EH-QL7000B adds HDMI 2.1, 4K/120Hz and ALLM. JVC’s DLA-NZ800 is the premium native-4K theater choice and accepts 4K120p in Low Latency Mode. BenQ’s V5010i and X3000i are useful living-room alternatives, but their published modes pair 4K with 60Hz and reserve 120Hz or 240Hz for 1080p.
That distinction matters more than a “120Hz” badge. Always match the projector’s stated resolution and refresh-rate combination to the console or PC mode you will actually use.

What counts as a real 4K/120 projector?
A projector can advertise 120Hz while accepting 120Hz only at 1080p. That is very different from accepting a 3840×2160 signal at 120Hz. The BenQ V5010i and X3000i specifications illustrate the trap: both list 4K input at 60Hz, then list faster 120Hz and 240Hz modes at 1080p. They are high-refresh gaming projectors, but the cited specifications do not establish 4K/120 output.

Resolution implementation also matters. JVC identifies the DLA-NZ800 as using native 4K D-ILA devices. Other projectors may use pixel shifting or XPR-style techniques to display a 4K image; those can look excellent, but they are not the same hardware approach as a native 4K panel.

Lag numbers in the table are manufacturer figures, not independent measurements. They are useful only when you compare the same resolution and refresh rate, and even then they are not a universal ranking. Epson states that there is no official input-lag measurement standard and that its figures use an Epson-defined method.
Best confirmed 4K/120 choices
Epson Pro Cinema LS12000: best balanced option
The LS12000 is the most straightforward recommendation for a single projector serving current consoles, a gaming PC and films. Epson explicitly says it supports gaming up to 4K at 120 frames per second and quotes input lag below 20 ms. That combination addresses the two questions buyers usually have: will it accept the console’s 4K/120 signal, and is the response quick enough for competitive play?
Its 4K PRO-UHD laser design is also suited to a dedicated theater where you want a large image without lamp replacement. The cited specification does not provide a universal brightness or contrast ranking against the other models here, so choose the screen and room first rather than assuming that the “4K” label alone determines picture quality.

- Connect the console or PC directly to the projector’s HDMI input that supports the required bandwidth. Epson’s published claim establishes the capability, but the exact input, cable length and firmware should be confirmed in the current setup documentation.
- On a PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X or compatible PC, select a 4K resolution and 120Hz output. If the source falls back to 60Hz, check the cable, input selection and the console’s video-information screen before changing picture settings.
- Use the projector’s low-latency or game-oriented picture setting when available. Disable processing that adds frame buffering, then verify that HDR remains enabled if you want HDR gaming.
- Check the displayed signal information while a game is running. A 120Hz readout at 1080p is not equivalent to 120Hz at 4K.
Epson EH-QL7000B: specialist for very large rooms
Epson Europe lists the EH-QL7000B with HDMI 2.1, 4K/120Hz refresh and Auto Low Latency Mode. It is aimed at exceptionally large images, with a stated image size of up to 1,000 inches, and the product information quotes a 5,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. Those characteristics make it relevant to a large dedicated room, sports simulation space or venue-style installation rather than a typical lounge.
ALLM can let a compatible console request the projector’s low-latency mode automatically, reducing the chance that a movie-oriented processing mode remains active during play. The model’s distribution is regional, so verify that the EH-QL7000B variant, power requirements and warranty match your market before ordering. The cited information does not publish an input-lag number, so do not infer one from the 4K/120 label.

JVC DLA-NZ800: premium native-4K theater choice
JVC’s 2024–2025 product sheet identifies the DLA-NZ800 as using a third-generation 0.69-inch native 4K D-ILA device. It accepts 4K120p when Low Latency Mode is used, making it the choice for buyers who place cinema-grade black level and native-4K detail ahead of value.
Native 4K does not automatically make a projector better for every room. A dark, controlled theater, a carefully sized screen and accurate installation allow the NZ800’s optical performance to matter. In a bright room, reflected light can lift black levels enough to erase much of the advantage. The cited sheet does not give a directly comparable input-lag figure, so judge responsiveness by the documented 4K120p mode and your own source setup rather than comparing its unknown number with Epson’s sub-20-ms claim.

BenQ V5010i: ultra-short-throw living-room alternative
The V5010i is attractive when the priority is a bright, simple living-room installation close to the wall. BenQ lists 17.9 ms at 4K/60Hz, 12.6 ms at 1080p/120Hz and 5.1 ms at 1080p/240Hz, and describes ALLM switching for console play. Those are useful figures for the exact modes they name.
However, the cited specification does not establish 4K/120. Treat the V5010i as a 4K/60 projector with faster 1080p modes, not as a confirmed 4K/120 model. If your games are competitive shooters or racing titles where 120Hz matters more than 4K detail, 1080p/120 or 1080p/240 may be a sensible trade. If you want both 4K detail and 120Hz from a console, select one of the confirmed models instead.
Ultra-short-throw placement puts the projector close to the screen, but the screen surface becomes critical. BenQ’s matched SNS21 ambient-light-rejecting screen is an accessory path for this installation style. A conventional white wall can show hotspots, uneven brightness and raised blacks; a properly matched UST ALR screen is often a bigger visual improvement than changing picture presets.

BenQ X3000i: value when 1080p high refresh is acceptable
The X3000i lists 16 ms at 4K/60Hz, 8 ms at 1080p/120Hz and 4.16 ms at 1080p/240Hz. That makes it compelling for large-screen gaming where rapid response and frame rate take priority. It is not a confirmed 4K/120 projector in the cited material, so describe it as a 4K/60 model with high-refresh 1080p options.

Streaming is another practical consideration. BenQ says Netflix supports only specific authorized devices and is not natively available on its smart home projectors. Plan to connect an external streaming device if Netflix is part of your setup, and leave enough HDMI and power access for that device.
Choosing between 4K/120 and 1080p/120
Choose confirmed 4K/120 when image detail is the priority
On a very large screen, 4K can preserve fine texture, distant targets and interface text that 1080p may soften. It is also the better fit for a gaming PC capable of rendering above 60 frames per second at 4K, provided the projector, source and cable all sustain the mode. The LS12000, EH-QL7000B and DLA-NZ800 have manufacturer statements that support this use.
Choose 1080p/120 or 240 when motion response is the priority
Rendering at 120 or 240 frames per second can make camera movement and controls feel more immediate, while lowering the GPU load. The V5010i and X3000i publish their quickest lag figures at 1080p, not 4K. This is a legitimate choice for esports-style play, but tell the console or PC to output 1080p explicitly; otherwise it may remain at 4K/60 and deliver a different latency result.
Room, screen and installation decisions
Control ambient light before chasing specifications
Stray light raises the black floor and reduces perceived contrast. Dark walls, curtains and a screen sized for the projector’s light output often improve movie quality more than a nominal contrast figure. The EH-QL7000B’s quoted 5,000,000:1 dynamic contrast is a manufacturer specification; it should not be treated as a guarantee of the same contrast in a sunlit room.

Plan throw distance and lens geometry
Measure the distance from the intended lens position to the screen, the ceiling height and the projector’s clearance for ventilation. Lens shift can simplify a permanent installation, while digital keystone correction can reduce effective resolution and should not be the first fix for a badly placed mount. Before buying, confirm the chosen model’s throw range, lens-shift limits, image-size range and mounting pattern in its regional documentation.
Use the right screen for a UST projector
A UST projector sends light upward at a steep angle, so ordinary screens and painted walls reveal surface imperfections and uneven brightness. A UST-specific ALR screen rejects ceiling light while preserving the intended viewing angle. The matched screen approach noted for the V5010i is a useful example of why projector and screen should be treated as one optical system.
Size the image for viewing distance
A larger image is not automatically more immersive if seats are too close. Sit at the intended position and check whether subtitles, HUD elements and fine text remain comfortable at the planned diagonal. For gaming, leave enough margin that the entire interface remains visible; for cinema, prioritize a screen size that fits the projector’s lens and the room’s sightlines.
Signal-chain checklist for 4K/120 gaming
- Source capability: Confirm that the console or graphics card can output 4K at 120Hz in the games you play. A game’s performance mode may use a lower internal render resolution even while the output signal remains 4K/120.
- Correct HDMI input: Use the projector input documented for the required high-bandwidth mode. The EH-QL7000B explicitly lists HDMI 2.1; for other models, verify the exact port in the current manual.
- Cable quality and length: Use a certified high-bandwidth cable of practical length. Long in-wall runs can require an active cable or signal extender; test the complete route before closing walls.
- Automatic low latency: Enable ALLM on both source and display when supported. If the projector does not switch automatically, select its low-latency picture mode manually.
- Verify the live signal: Read the projector’s information panel or the console’s video-output screen. Confirm both 3840×2160 and 120Hz; seeing only “120Hz” is insufficient.
- Check HDR and color: Enable HDR only after the 4K/120 link is stable. If the image flickers, drops to 60Hz or loses HDR, troubleshoot bandwidth and cable issues before adjusting color controls.
- Measure your own chain: Manufacturer lag figures are mode-specific and use different methods. Test with the exact source, resolution, refresh rate and picture mode you will use.
What to look for beyond refresh rate
Native resolution and processing
Ask whether “4K” means a native 4K imaging device or a pixel-shifted presentation. JVC’s DLA-NZ800 is explicitly native 4K D-ILA. The other models should be evaluated from their own optical and processing specifications rather than assuming that every 4K label describes the same panel architecture.
HDR, color and black level
Films expose differences that a lag chart cannot show: shadow detail, highlight roll-off, color gamut and how accurately the projector maps HDR to the screen’s actual brightness. Compare these in a controlled room and with the screen you will install. A projector with excellent HDR processing can look more natural than a brighter model whose tone mapping clips highlights.

Connectivity and audio return
HDMI 2.1 can be important for 4K/120 and gaming features such as ALLM. Check the number and placement of high-bandwidth inputs, whether eARC is available for a soundbar or AV receiver, and whether your receiver can pass the same 4K/120 signal. A receiver limited to 4K/60 can become the bottleneck even when the projector accepts 4K/120.
Smart apps and external streaming
Built-in apps are convenient but can change by region and authorization. The X3000i’s documented Netflix limitation is a reminder to budget for an external streamer when an app is not supported. An external device also makes it easier to replace an outdated smart platform without replacing the projector.
Common buying mistakes and fixes
Mistake: buying a “120Hz” label without checking resolution
Fix: Read the mode table and find an explicit 4K/120 or 4K120p entry. If the table lists 4K/60 and 1080p/120, plan for 1080p at the higher refresh rate.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsMistake: comparing lag numbers from different modes
Fix: Compare 4K/60 with 4K/60, or 1080p/120 with 1080p/120. Do not use a 4.16-ms 1080p/240 figure to claim that a projector is faster at 4K/120.
Mistake: routing 4K/120 through a receiver that cannot pass it
Fix: Test the console directly into the projector first. If that works, update or bypass the receiver and use eARC for audio return where supported.
Mistake: installing a UST on a normal wall
Fix: Use a rigid, UST-compatible ALR screen and align the projector precisely. Surface waviness is especially visible with an ultra-short throw.
Mistake: assuming the manufacturer’s lag number is universal
Fix: Treat every figure as a manufacturer measurement tied to a specified mode. Epson explicitly notes that there is no official input-lag standard and that its method is its own.
Which projector should you buy?
- One projector for 4K/120 consoles, PC gaming and movies: Epson Pro Cinema LS12000, because the manufacturer explicitly combines 4K/120 gaming with sub-20-ms lag.
- Huge image in a dedicated large room or sports simulator: Epson EH-QL7000B, for its listed HDMI 2.1, 4K/120Hz, ALLM and up-to-1,000-inch image capability.
- Native-4K cinema installation first, gaming second: JVC DLA-NZ800, which accepts 4K120p in Low Latency Mode and uses native 4K D-ILA devices.
- Easy close-to-wall living-room setup: BenQ V5010i, provided you accept 4K/60 and use 1080p for 120Hz or 240Hz gaming; pair a UST projector with an appropriate ALR screen.
- Lower-cost large-screen gaming with 1080p high refresh: BenQ X3000i, when 1080p/120 or 1080p/240 matters more than confirmed 4K/120 and you are prepared to use an external Netflix device.
Before placing an order, verify the regional model, current firmware, available HDMI input, cable route and screen. Those practical checks determine whether the advertised mode appears reliably in your room.
