| Camera | 360 still-photo and video claims | Other relevant details | Best fit and qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Insta360 X6 | TechRadar reports 120MP 360 photos and 8K video up to 50fps. | TechRadar reports a rated 140 minutes at 8K/30fps, compared with 93 minutes for X5. | A newer option to consider for high-resolution stills and upgraded capture. The figures are comparison reporting; check the current manufacturer specification before buying. TechRadar’s X6/X5 comparison. |
| Insta360 X5 | Manufacturer lists approximately 72MP (11904 × 5952) 360 photos, an alternate approximately 18MP (5888 × 2944) 360-photo mode, and 8K (7680 × 3840) 360 video up to 30fps. | 15m waterproof rating, 2400mAh battery, UHS-I V30 or higher microSD requirement. Manufacturer lab runtimes: 93 minutes at 8K/30fps and 208 minutes at 5.7K/24fps Endurance Mode. | A clearly documented choice with a compatible dive-case option. Lab runtime is not a field guarantee. | DJI Osmo 360 | Manufacturer lists a 120MP panoramic-photo mode (15520 × 7760) and 8K panoramic video up to 50fps. | 1/1.1-inch CMOS sensor; body-only underwater use up to 10m, subject to cautions. | Worth comparing for panoramic still resolution and a DJI-centered workflow. Its underwater guidance rules out treating the camera as suitable for every aquatic condition. DJI Osmo 360 specifications. |
| GoPro MAX2 | Tom’s Guide lists 8K/30p video and describes true stitched 8K. | The guide highlights timecode sync, log and 10-bit workflows, and notes lower waterproof depth than some competitors. | A video-production-oriented alternative rather than a still-photo winner established by this evidence. Which camera fits your kind of 360 photography?
For high-resolution still panoramas
Compare the X6 and Osmo 360 first: current comparison coverage reports 120MP 360 stills for the X6, and DJI lists a 120MP panoramic-photo mode for Osmo 360. The X5’s listed 72MP mode is a useful documented reference point. These modes are not necessarily identical, and megapixel counts do not tell you how much usable detail survives stitching, exposure differences or editing. Look for full-resolution sample images made in conditions like your own before treating the numbers as a quality ranking.
For action and reframing into conventional video
If your goal is to shoot everything around you and later choose a forward-facing or moving crop, weigh video resolution, frame rate and editing workflow alongside still-photo modes. The listed X6 and Osmo 360 video ceilings are up to 8K/50fps; X5 is listed at 8K/30fps. MAX2 may suit a production workflow that benefits from timecode sync, log and 10-bit features, according to Tom’s Guide. A 360 video specification is not the same as the resolution of a final reframed view: cropping to a smaller field of view uses only part of the captured sphere.

For underwater use
Choose by the exact camera-body rating and compatible case, not a generic claim that a model is waterproof. X5 is specified for 15m, and Insta360 says its Invisible Dive Case supports 360 footage down to 60m. DJI lists Osmo 360 body use up to 10m, but advises against long-term underwater use and high water-impact-pressure environments. These are model-specific manufacturer statements, not interchangeable limits. Insta360 X5 product information covers the case; DJI’s specifications set out its cautions.
For an existing camera ecosystem
Tom’s Guide characterizes Osmo 360 as a natural fit for existing DJI users, X5 as a strong all-around option, and MAX2 as a professional-video choice. Treat those as the guide’s editorial judgments, not universal rankings. Consider how you will transfer footage, edit it, synchronize it with other cameras and deliver the final panorama or video.

What the headline specifications do—and do not—tell you
Still resolution is not video resolution
A still-photo mode may list a large panorama dimension, while video is specified by frame dimensions and frames per second. Do not infer still detail from an 8K video label, or assume a 120MP panorama will look better than every lower-resolution alternative. The available evidence does not establish a controlled image-quality winner across these models.

TechRadar reports observations about X6 versus X5 low-light performance and heat behavior. Those are reviewer observations, not guaranteed outcomes in every scene or setting. The available coverage does not establish a controlled current low-light comparison across all four cameras, so seek comparable sample images if night or indoor capture is central to your use.

Battery figures depend on the recording mode
For X5, Insta360’s lab figures are 93 minutes at 8K/30fps and 208 minutes at 5.7K/24fps Endurance Mode. TechRadar reports X6’s rated 140 minutes at 8K/30fps. These are not directly comparable across every setting, and laboratory or rated runtime should not be treated as a promise for real-world shooting.

High-resolution 360 capture creates large files and adds stitching, reframing and export steps to the workflow. Before choosing, check that your computer or phone can handle the files and that your editing app supports the camera’s formats and desired output. Tom’s Guide’s 2026 buying guide also identifies storage and editing as practical comparison points.

A short checklist before buying
- Decide whether your priority is still panoramas, action video, underwater capture or professional post-production.
- Compare each camera’s still-photo mode separately from its video resolution and frame rate.
- Check sample images and reviewer tests for your lighting conditions; do not use megapixels as a stand-in for image quality.
- Verify body-only water limits and any case’s model compatibility and depth rating.
- Confirm the storage card, editing support and transfer workflow you will need.
- Read the current manufacturer specifications before purchase because availability, firmware and specifications can change.
