Best 3-in-1 Printers in 2026: Picks for Every Workload

There is no single best 3-in-1 printer for everyone. Choose a cartridge inkjet for occasional color and photo work, a refillable ink-tank model for regular color printing at a lower ongoing-supply burden, or a laser all-in-one when fast, text-heavy documents matter most. Then verify the model’s scanner, automatic document feeder, two-sided functions, paper handling, connections, footprint and regional availability.

What a 3-in-1 printer does

A 3-in-1 printer combines three functions in one machine: printing, scanning and copying. You can print a document, digitize a paper original or make a duplicate without buying separate devices.

Some all-in-ones add fax and are marketed as 4-in-1 machines. Do not assume fax is present because a printer has an automatic document feeder or a business-oriented name. Check whether fax hardware is built into the printer or whether an app or computer service merely provides an internet-fax function. If you never send or receive faxes, paying for that feature adds complexity without improving your workflow.

Choose by workload before choosing a model

Occasional home or student printing

If you print assignments, forms, shipping labels and a few color pages each month, a basic cartridge inkjet 3-in-1 is usually the simplest fit. Purchase price is often the main attraction, but compare replacement-cartridge prices and page yields before deciding. A printer that sits unused for long periods also needs a design that is easy to maintain when you return to it.

  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Look for wireless and USB connectivity, a straightforward mobile or desktop setup, a scanner sized for letter or A4 documents, and automatic two-sided printing if you regularly submit multi-page work. A small footprint may matter more than high paper capacity in a dorm room or shared home office.

Frequent office paperwork

Invoices, contracts, school packets and forms create a different workload. A refillable ink-tank all-in-one can make sense when you print color and black pages regularly because its large reservoirs reduce the frequency of supply replacement. A laser all-in-one is typically stronger for fast, text-heavy work and can be a better match when most pages are monochrome.

Prioritize an automatic document feeder (ADF), enough feeder capacity for your usual batch, two-sided printing and, if you scan frequently, duplex scanning. A printer that can scan both sides in one pass saves more time than a marginal difference in advertised print speed. Check the main tray and multipurpose tray capacities as well; repeatedly loading paper undermines the benefit of a faster engine.

Photos, presentations and color graphics

Inkjet printers generally suit photos, illustrations and color graphics better than office-focused laser models. That is a category tendency, not a guarantee: paper choice, driver settings and the individual model determine the result. Confirm the supported photo and specialty-paper sizes, whether a rear or multipurpose feed is available, and how the manufacturer handles borderless printing if that matters to you.

For a mixed home office, an ink-tank model can combine color capability with fewer refill interruptions than a cartridge design. Do not select a tank solely because the reservoirs are large; verify the scanner and paper-handling features you will use every week.

Workload comparison

Typical workload Starting category Features to prioritize Main caution
Occasional documents and some color Cartridge inkjet 3-in-1 Low purchase price, wireless setup, compact size, automatic duplex printing Replacement cartridges can become expensive if volume increases
Regular color documents and graphics Refillable ink-tank all-in-one Included ink, refill process, ADF, duplex printing, paper capacity Higher initial price and a larger footprint are common
High-volume, text-heavy paperwork Monochrome or color laser all-in-one Print speed, toner availability, ADF capacity, duplex scanning, duty suitability Photo output and color running costs vary by model
Frequent photos and creative pages Color inkjet all-in-one Photo-paper support, color controls, borderless options, scanner quality Ink use and maintenance matter when pages are infrequent

Inkjet, ink-tank or laser: how the technologies differ

Cartridge inkjet

Cartridge inkjets spray liquid ink onto the page. They are commonly available in compact color all-in-one designs and are a natural fit for mixed documents, graphics and photos. Their low entry price does not establish a low lifetime cost. Compare the price and stated yield of every replacement cartridge, including high-capacity versions, with your expected monthly volume.

Refillable ink-tank

Ink-tank printers use refillable reservoirs rather than conventional small cartridges. They often include a substantial starter supply, which can reduce early replacement interruptions. That included ink is a one-time allowance, not evidence that all future printing is free. Before buying, check the price and published yield of each replacement bottle, the refill procedure, spill protection and the availability of bottles for your country and exact model.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Laser

Laser printers fuse toner to the page and are typically favored for quick, text-heavy document work. A color laser all-in-one can handle office graphics, but photo quality, toner prices and the physical size of the machine differ widely. Compare the complete color-toner set, drum or maintenance items, duplex behavior and scanner features instead of judging by the printer’s purchase price alone.

Operating-cost questions to answer

  • How many black and color pages do you expect in a typical month?
  • Are the manufacturer’s yields based on the same page-coverage standard for every supply?
  • What is the current price of a full replacement set, not just one color?
  • Does the model require a separate drum, maintenance box or waste-ink component?
  • Will supplies be easy to obtain in your region when the original set runs out?

Do not quote a cost-per-page figure unless you have current, model-specific yields and supply prices. Those values change by region, retailer and date.

Features that determine whether an all-in-one fits your workflow

ADF capacity and duplex scanning

The flatbed scanner handles books, receipts and single sheets. An ADF is better for a stack of loose pages. Capacity is stated as a number of sheets, but the practical limit depends on paper weight and condition. If you routinely scan contracts or school packets, look for duplex scanning, which captures both sides automatically. A single-sided ADF can still require you to turn a double-sided stack by hand.

Two-sided printing

Automatic duplex printing reduces manual page flipping and paper use for reports and forms. Check whether duplex is available in the paper size and media type you actually use; some printers limit it to the main tray or ordinary office paper.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Paper handling

Check the supported sizes, including letter, A4, envelopes, labels and photo paper. A dedicated rear or multipurpose feed is useful when you switch between plain paper and specialty media. Compare the input-tray capacity with your longest routine job and confirm that the output tray can hold a complete stack without blocking access.

  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.

Connections and software

Wireless printing is convenient for phones and shared computers, while USB can keep a single workstation working when a network is unavailable. Confirm compatibility with your operating systems and the manufacturer’s current app before purchase. Business models may offer Ethernet; that is valuable when a printer will remain on a wired office network.

Footprint and access

Measure the printer with trays and scanner-lid clearance accounted for, not just the closed-box dimensions. Leave room to open the ink or toner compartment, remove jammed paper and lift the scanner lid. A model that fits only when every tray is folded away will be frustrating in daily use.

Epson EcoTank ET-4950: feature-heavy tank option

TechRadar’s August 2026 roundup selects the ET-4950 as its overall all-in-one pick and calls it an ink-tank 4-in-1. The publication says it impressed its reviewer with print quality, speed, included ink and features. TechRadar’s senior printer editor wrote, “I can’t find another mid-price printer so loaded with features and ink.” That is the editor’s opinion, not an independent test result presented here. Verify the fax function, scanner workflow and local version before treating it as your choice.

HP Envy 6555e: casual-use budget candidate

TechRadar positions the Envy 6555e as a budget 3-in-1 for casual home or student printing and notes limitations for sustained business use. It belongs on a shortlist when your volume is modest. If you print daily batches, calculate cartridge replacement frequency and examine an ink-tank or laser alternative instead.

Brother MFC-J1360DW: budget home-use candidate

RTINGS identifies the MFC-J1360DW as a budget home-use all-in-one option. Treat that positioning as a starting point: confirm whether its feeder, two-sided functions, paper handling and current supplies match your actual documents.

HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e: scanner-focused mid-range candidate

RTINGS discusses the OfficeJet Pro 9125e as a mid-range alternative with a more capable scanner. It is worth investigating when scanning is a central part of the workflow rather than an occasional convenience. Check the exact ADF capacity and duplex-scanning method for the version sold in your market.

Canon Color imageCLASS MF665Cdw: color-laser candidate

RTINGS compares the MF665Cdw as a color laser all-in-one against an ink-tank alternative. Consider it when crisp office documents, toner-based operation and laser workflow appeal more than inkjet photo strengths. Confirm toner-set pricing, drum requirements, dimensions and the color quality you need.

Other regional examples

Canon UK’s August 2026 home-office guide names the PIXMA TS9550a and TR7650. Tom’s Guide’s 2026 home and office coverage names the Brother INKvestment MFC-T780DW and Epson EcoTank Pro ET-5850. These references are useful starting points, but regional model names and specifications are not interchangeable.

A step-by-step buying method

  1. Record your workload. Estimate monthly black pages, color pages, photos and the largest scan batch you handle. Separate occasional peaks from your normal month.
  2. Choose the technology category. Start with cartridge inkjet for light mixed use, refillable tank for regular color volume, or laser for predominantly text-heavy work.
  3. Set the document workflow requirements. Decide whether you need an ADF, duplex scanning, automatic duplex printing, fax, Ethernet or a particular paper size. Mark each as essential or optional.
  4. Measure the installation space. Include tray extension, scanner-lid clearance and access for replacing supplies.
  5. Compare supplies, not just hardware. Record current prices and stated yields for every cartridge, bottle, toner color and maintenance item. Use the exact regional model number.
  6. Check connections. Confirm Wi-Fi, USB, Ethernet and operating-system support for every device that will print or scan.
  7. Verify independent evidence. Distinguish a publication’s recommendation from a measured test, and check the date of the review. Availability and pricing can change after publication.
  8. Buy the paper and supplies that match the device. Confirm compatibility before ordering replacements; a physically similar cartridge or bottle may not work in your model.

Setup checklist after purchase

  1. Remove all transport materials, install the supplied ink or toner, and complete the printer’s initial charging or calibration routine.
  2. Install the current driver or manufacturer app from the official support channel for your exact model and region.
  3. Connect by Wi-Fi, Ethernet or USB, then print a basic test page and scan a single sheet from the flatbed.
  4. Test automatic duplex printing with the paper size you use most often.
  5. Load a small stack into the ADF and test a multi-page scan, checking that pages feed in the correct order.
  6. Save the printer’s supply part numbers and the date you installed the first set so replacements are ordered for the correct model.

Common pitfalls and fixes

Buying on purchase price alone

A cheap printer can become expensive when cartridges are replaced often. Recalculate using your expected volume and current supply prices before buying.

Ignoring scanner limitations

A printer can produce good pages yet be inconvenient for a document-heavy workflow if it lacks an ADF or duplex scanning. Confirm those functions in the specification for your regional version.

Overlooking regional suffixes

Models with similar names can have different wireless standards, fax functions, bundled supplies or paper support. Match the full model number to the country where you will use it.

Allowing the printer to sit unused

When a color inkjet is used only a few times a year, maintenance and cleaning can consume supplies. If your usage is genuinely rare, compare that inconvenience with a laser model or a simpler print-only device plus a separate scanning method.

Underestimating clearance

Measure with the ADF lid open, output tray extended and supply doors accessible. A printer that technically fits but cannot be opened fully will cause jams and refill problems.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Final decision guide

  • Choose a cartridge inkjet when your priority is a low entry price and occasional mixed color printing.
  • Choose a refillable ink-tank model when you print color regularly and want fewer supply changes, while accepting a higher initial purchase and the need to manage bottled ink.
  • Choose a laser all-in-one when most pages are text, batches are frequent and fast document handling matters more than top photo performance.
  • Choose a feature-rich 4-in-1 only when fax is genuinely part of your workflow; otherwise a 3-in-1 may be simpler.

Use the 2026 model examples as shortlists, not universal winners. The right choice is the one whose printing technology, supplies, scanner workflow, paper handling, connections and physical size match the work you will actually do.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a 4-in-1 printer instead of a 3-in-1?

Only if you regularly send or receive faxes. Otherwise, the additional fax hardware or software offers no benefit over print, scan and copy functions.

Is an ink-tank printer always cheaper to run?

No. Tank designs can reduce refill frequency for regular color printing, but you still need to compare current bottle prices and stated yields for the exact regional model.

What is the most important feature for scanning paperwork?

An automatic document feeder is the starting point; duplex scanning matters when your documents commonly have printing on both sides.
