For a public domain film channel that needs continuous prerecorded-video playback, Gyre is the closest documented workflow match: YouTube’s encoder guide describes it as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 YouTube streaming of prerecorded videos. StreamNeo is another cloud option for looping uploaded videos on YouTube; it streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, with the first day free. Upstream is described as a browser-based 24/7 streaming studio with YouTube integration, while OBS is a no-charge, open-source option for operators who want to run their own encoder.
This is a comparison of documented use cases, not a tested reliability ranking. The available sources do not establish comparative uptime, pricing, support quality, or performance for Gyre, Upstream, or OBS. And no streaming service can make a film safe to broadcast: check rights for the specific film, version, music, and territories before going live.

Which service fits a continuous film channel?
The main choice is between hosted cloud playout and operating an encoder yourself. With a cloud service, the provider runs the playback and streaming workflow; with OBS, your computer and connection are part of the broadcast setup and need ongoing management.

What to check before choosing
Match the service to the way you want to operate
- Hosted cloud playout: Consider this if you do not want to leave a computer running for continuous playback. Gyre is the most specifically documented fit for prerecorded video in YouTube’s encoder guide. StreamNeo also loops uploaded videos and playlists from the cloud.
- Browser-based studio: Upstream is described by YouTube as a browser-based studio for 24/7 streaming with YouTube integration. Confirm directly with the service that its current plan and workflow suit prerecorded film playback.
- Local encoder: OBS suits an operator who wants to run their own streaming software. The operator remains responsible for the computer, encoder configuration, network connection, and recovery if the local setup fails.
Verify current commercial terms directly
The available documentation does not establish current prices, plan limits, support terms, or service-level guarantees for Gyre or Upstream. Check each provider’s current terms before committing, and do not treat a service description as evidence of measured uptime. StreamNeo’s monthly option is $9.99 per month; it also offers day, week, six-month, and yearly billing. UPI and cards are supported in India, with card checkout worldwide. Its first day is free with no card required, one free day per account. Five or more slots: contact support.
Plan for YouTube’s live stream and archive behavior
A continuous broadcast and a complete replay are different outcomes. YouTube says live streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. For a longer continuous stream, do not assume YouTube will preserve one complete replay; plan separately for how you will retain or publish the films and verify YouTube’s current archive behavior for your channel.

- Cinematic streaming: This TV streaming device brings the movie theater to your living room with spectacular 4K, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision picture alongside immersive Dolby Atmos audio.
- The ultimate Roku remote: The rechargeable Roku Voice Remote Pro offers backlit buttons, hands-free voice controls, and a lost remote finder.
- No more fumbling in the dark: See what you’re pressing with backlit buttons.
- Say goodbye to batteries: Keep your remote powered for months on a single charge.
Encoder-based streaming requires connecting the encoder to YouTube with the live server URL and stream key. YouTube lists both software and hardware encoders; OBS is one software option. Keep the stream key private, and use YouTube’s current live-control workflow to create or select the broadcast and connect the encoder. A cloud service may handle playback and encoding in its own environment, but the YouTube destination and its rules still apply.

Check film rights before scheduling a loop
“Public domain” is not a universal label that clears every version of a film everywhere. The U.S. Copyright Office’s general guidance says works published in the United States before January 1, 1931 are currently in the public domain because copyright protection has expired. That general rule does not determine the status of every film, soundtrack, restoration, or territory. The Copyright Office also notes that certain foreign works that were in the U.S. public domain but still protected in their source country had copyright automatically restored in 1996. See the U.S. Copyright Office’s copyright duration guidance.

Before streaming, check the specific work and the material included in the version you plan to show:
- Identify the film’s country of publication and the relevant copyright facts for the territories where you intend to make it available.
- Check the underlying music and other included works separately; an old film may contain material with separate rights.
- Verify that the particular restoration, scan, subtitles, or other version does not introduce material with its own rights or usage terms.
- Keep records supporting your rights assessment and any licenses, including their territories and conditions.
This is not a title-specific legal determination. A film’s age, a third-party upload label, or an assumption based on one country is not enough to establish worldwide clearance.

Content ID can interrupt even licensed streams
YouTube states: “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” If it identifies third-party content, it may replace the stream with a placeholder image; if the content remains, it may temporarily interrupt or terminate the stream. YouTube also says that owners of licensed third-party content should have the channel added to their Content ID allowlist. A stream may still be interrupted without that allowlisting, even when the content is licensed or restricted by territory. Review YouTube’s copyright issues with live streams guidance and arrange allowlisting with the rights holder where applicable.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is for prerecorded uploads, not live camera feeds, and streams to YouTube. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud keeps playback running without a computer left on at home; the uploaded video streams as made, at any quality up to 4K 60fps, for one flat price per slot; and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. You can choose a day, week, month, six months, or year, and cancel any time. Each slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, recovery, and support from the StreamNeo team; plan differences are billing length, not streaming quality. In India, UPI and cards work; card checkout is available worldwide. For five or more slots, contact support. Check your film rights and YouTube requirements before scheduling any broadcast.
