There is no single best 1 TB cloud storage plan for everyone. For US users who will also use desktop Office apps, Microsoft 365 Personal is a verified 1 TB option; for people prioritizing a provider that advertises end-to-end encryption, Sync.com offers a Personal 1 TB plan. Compare the full renewal cost, privacy and recovery model, sharing needs, and local plan availability—not just the headline capacity.
What counts as “1 TB cloud storage”?
A 1 TB plan may mean storage for one account, a per-person allowance inside a family subscription, or capacity intended for backup rather than everyday file syncing. Those are different offers. Check who gets the space and how it works before comparing prices.

- Individual storage: one person gets a stated 1 TB allocation.
- Family storage: a subscription may divide capacity into separate personal allocations. Microsoft 365 Family, for example, lists 1 TB per person for up to six people.
- Backup or archive storage: a service designed for large backups may have different limits and costs for downloading data than a consumer sync drive.
Cloud storage can make files available across devices and provide a remote copy if a device is lost, as the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission explains in its cloud storage guidance. A local external drive can add a second copy or help move files, but it does not provide remote access or synchronization.
Verified 1 TB choices to compare
Microsoft 365 Personal: 1 TB plus desktop Office
Microsoft’s US plan page, accessed October 7, 2026, lists Microsoft 365 Personal at $99.99 per year or $9.99 per month. It includes 1 TB for one person, use on up to five devices at once, and desktop Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote. The subscription renews unless canceled, so assess the plan as a bundle rather than treating the listed cost as a standalone storage price. See Microsoft 365 Personal.

- Take it with you on your adventures—up to two-meter drop protection means this durable drive can take a beating. (Based on internal testing.)

- From Sandisk, a brand professional photographers trust to take on assignments.
Microsoft 365 Family: separate capacity for up to six people
The same US plan page lists Microsoft 365 Family at $129.99 per year or $12.99 per month for up to six people, with 1 TB per person and up to 6 TB total. It is a household option when multiple people can use their own allocations; it is not simply one shared 6 TB bucket. See Microsoft 365 Family.

Sync.com says its service is end-to-end encrypted and that it cannot read customers’ stored files. That is the provider’s description, not independent verification of its implementation. Its pages also describe file recovery, sharing, real-time backup and sync, and access through Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, and a browser. See Sync.com secure cloud storage.

How to choose the right plan
If you want storage and use Office
Compare Microsoft 365 Personal with services already in your workflow, and decide whether the desktop apps justify paying for the bundle. Include the renewal cost and automatic renewal in that decision.

If end-to-end encryption is your priority
Sync.com is a candidate because it advertises an encrypted Personal 1 TB plan. Evaluate its app support, sharing, recovery options, and current renewal terms alongside that privacy claim; do not treat the provider’s own wording as an independent security audit.
If you are buying for a household
Look at the allocation per person, not just total capacity. Separate accounts or allowances can matter for privacy, ownership, and keeping one person’s files distinct from another’s. Microsoft’s Family listing explicitly describes 1 TB per person for up to six users.

If you need backup or archive capacity
Check whether the product is a consumer sync drive, a backup service, or object storage. For large archives, download or egress charges and quotas can affect the cost of getting files back out. A dated July 2026 comparison discusses these considerations for object-storage services, but it is not a substitute for checking current provider terms.

A July 14, 2026 Cloudslinker comparison names Google One, Apple iCloud+, Dropbox, MEGA, pCloud, IDrive, and TeraBox. It combines different plan sizes and billing bases, so use it to identify candidates and comparison criteria—not as a live, like-for-like price ranking. Its cited examples include a 2 TB paid plan for Google One, Dropbox, and iCloud+, and a 2 TB lifetime plan for pCloud; these are not exact 1 TB subscriptions. See Cloudslinker’s cloud storage comparison.

The same comparison reports free-tier figures as of July 2026: TeraBox at 1 TB with ads and speed limits described in its table; MEGA at 20 GB; Sync.com at 5 GB; Google One at 15 GB; pCloud up to 10 GB; Dropbox at 2 GB; and iCloud+ at 5 GB. These are secondary-source figures, not a guarantee of current terms or availability. Free capacity can be useful for trying a service, but it is not evidence that a paid plan is the best fit for a full 1 TB library.
Cloudwards’ 2026 roundup also names Internxt, Tresorit, Icedrive, Sync.com, pCloud, and Proton Drive. Some configurations it discusses are team or larger plans rather than exact personal 1 TB subscriptions, so verify the underlying plan before comparing. Its conclusions are editorial assessments, not official specifications. See Cloudwards’ cloud storage roundup. TechRadar’s 2026 comparison includes services such as pCloud and Icedrive; treat its speed or usability findings as reviewer opinions rather than universal performance results. See TechRadar’s cloud storage comparison.
Google and Apple official pages are useful places to verify local plans, but the plan details available for this comparison did not establish current tiers or prices. Plan pages do not always answer the practical questions that determine whether a service will work for your files. Check these details on the provider’s current local terms:
- Price after any introductory offer, billing interval, and automatic-renewal terms.
- Maximum individual file size and any device or simultaneous-use limits.
- How long deleted files and older versions can be recovered.
- How sharing works, including permissions and whether recipients need accounts.
- Encryption and key ownership, plus what account recovery means for access to encrypted files.
- How to export or download your full library, and whether retrieval is subject to quotas or fees.
- What happens when an account exceeds its storage allowance.
Should cloud storage be your only copy?
No. A cloud account helps with access across devices and can protect against losing a device, but a separate local copy adds another recovery path. The ACCC’s cloud storage guidance describes these access and backup uses. An external SSD can serve as a local second copy or migration tool; it complements cloud storage rather than replacing its remote access and sync features.
