The examples below cover both, but they are not a lab-tested ranking. Match the exact model, ports, adaptive sync and stand to your computer or console before buying.

| 31.5-inch QHD, curved VA | HP OMEN 32c | HP lists a 31.5-inch curved VA panel, QHD, 165Hz, AMD FreeSync Premium, DisplayPort 1.4 and two HDMI 2.0 inputs. HP product listing | Its curved VA design is a different panel and viewing experience from the flat IPS OMEN 32q. |
| Compact 1080p budget example | BenQ MOBIUZ EX240 | PC Gamer lists 24 inches, 1920 × 1080, 165Hz, 1ms and Adaptive Sync, and selects it as a budget high-refresh option. PC Gamer’s 165Hz monitor guide | PC Gamer notes limited HDR and 1080p resolution. This is that publication’s recommendation, not an independent hands-on test for this guide. |
| Large QHD value example | Gigabyte GS32QC | TechRadar describes a 31.5-inch, 1440p, 165Hz display as a budget pick. TechRadar’s 165Hz monitor guide | TechRadar reports that the stand tilts but lacks height adjustment and portrait rotation. |
Choose resolution and size together
Resolution determines how much detail the display can show; screen size affects how that resolution looks at your usual viewing distance. The cited examples include 24-inch 1080p, 27-inch QHD and 31.5-inch QHD 165Hz monitors. A larger QHD model can suit someone seeking more screen area and detail, while a compact 1080p option may fit a smaller desk or a setup where budget matters more. These examples do not establish which resolution your graphics hardware can drive at a particular frame rate.

Compare panel type and screen shape
The available examples span IPS, VA and TN panels, as well as flat and curved screens. These are meaningful differences, not details that the 165Hz rating resolves. Choose based on your preferred viewing experience and the specific product’s documented features; the cited specifications do not provide a controlled comparison of image quality or response behavior across these models.
Match adaptive sync and inputs to your platform
Dell’s gaming-display guidance identifies refresh rate, response time, adaptive sync and panel type as core specifications to consider. It recommends checking for G-Sync Compatible or certification with NVIDIA graphics cards, FreeSync Premium or Premium Pro with AMD graphics cards, and HDMI 2.1 VRR for console gaming. Those labels alone do not establish that every resolution and refresh-rate mode works through every input. Check the exact monitor’s supported modes against your GPU or console and the port you plan to use. Dell’s gaming monitor buying guide
Rank #2
- QHD Resolution (2560 x 1440) has 1.7 times the pixel density of Full HD for incredibly detailed pinsharp images
- HDR10 provides brighter highlights and nuanced shadow for added depth - making every scene feel more vivid and realistic
- The 180Hz refresh rate minimizes lag for gameplay with ultra-smooth action. Plus, the 1ms response time helps capture your moves in real-time, allowing you to react fast for gaming precision
- AMD FreeSync reduces choppiness, screen lag and image tearing, ensuring that your fast-paced, complex in-game action is stable with minimal stutter
- Ergonomic stand allows for tilt, pivot and height adjustments to maximize gaming comfort
For example, HP lists DisplayPort 1.4 and two HDMI 2.0 inputs on the OMEN 32q and 32c. That port information is a starting point, not a promise that every connected device can use 165Hz at QHD. Verify the monitor manual and source-device capabilities for your intended connection before assuming a specific mode will work.
Check ergonomics and response-time claims
Look at stand adjustment, tilt, pivot, VESA mounting and desk fit alongside screen specifications. The GS32QC illustrates why: TechRadar reports tilt adjustment but no height adjustment or portrait rotation. If you need those movements, check the exact model’s stand or mounting specifications rather than relying on screen size or refresh rate as a proxy.
Rank #3
- up to 180Hz Refresh Rate: Pushing beyond the standard 144Hz, 165Hz gives gamers an edge in visibility as frames transition instantly, leaving behind no blurred images.
- IPS Panel: The IPS (In-Plane Switching) panel cannot be beat when it comes to consistently delivering top color performance and sharp visibility from multiple viewing angles.
- AMD FreeSync: With FreeSync, gamers now enjoy smooth video and seamless on the spot movement through their fast paced games. FreeSync is an AMD technology that nearly eliminates tearing and stuttering due to differences between a graphics card's frame rate and a monitor's refresh rate.
- Edgeless Design: Edgeless Design completely immerses you in all the captivating action and wondrous scenery that 1080P resolution and 165Hz refresh rate have to offer.
- Multiple Digital Ports: While three HDMI ports each deliver an impressive 144Hz refresh rate, one DisplayPort produces a stunning 165Hz refresh rate, all in FHD resolution.
Response-time figures also need context: a quoted number is not a universal real-world result. Compare how the manufacturer or reviewer defines it, and treat HDR as a separate feature to verify. For instance, PC Gamer’s EX240 review notes limited HDR; a 165Hz label does not say anything by itself about HDR performance.
