Is a 10-litre geyser enough for your bathroom?
A 10-litre storage heater suits a small bathroom and regular single-person bathing. A category guide from Bajaj Finance places storage geysers in the 10–25 litre range for bathroom and family use, with an approximate 10–20 minute heat-up period. That is a category estimate, not a promise for every model or winter: actual heating time changes with inlet-water temperature, thermostat setting, power and the temperature you select.

Choose 15 litres instead if several people need back-to-back baths, your region has particularly cold winter water, or you want more reserve before the tank reheats. A 10-litre unit can still work for a couple when bathing is staggered and the thermostat is set sensibly.

Warranty terms are 2 years on the product, 3 years on the heating element and 7 years on the inner tank. How to choose the right 10-litre geyser
1. Match capacity to bathing pattern
- One person at a time: 10 litres is usually the sensible starting point.
- Back-to-back users: compare 15 litres, especially in colder climates.
- Mixed use: remember that a storage tank’s recovery depends on inlet temperature, thermostat setting and the 2 kW heater’s operation.
2. Treat the 5-star label as an efficiency signal, not a bill guarantee
A current Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) 5-star label, good PUF insulation and a correctly set thermostat can reduce energy use. Your actual bill still depends on water temperature, how often the tank reheats, household usage and the local electricity tariff. Do not convert a star rating into a fixed rupee saving without the label’s test period and assumptions.

Look for a vitreous-enamel or glass-lined tank, a sacrificial anode and a heating element specified for corrosion and scale resistance, such as Incoloy 800. These are protective design features, not proof that servicing will never be required. Ask the installer about periodic inspection and anode replacement for your water quality.
4. Check pressure before buying for a high-rise or pump-fed home
Compare the geyser’s maximum operating pressure with the pressure your plumbing system can deliver. The Victo DG and Iris Pro are both specified at 8 bar. A thermostat, thermal cut-out and multi-function safety valve help address overheating, excess pressure and reverse-flow risks, but they cannot compensate for incorrect installation.

5. Read warranty terms as three separate promises
Manufacturers commonly separate coverage for the complete product, heating element and inner tank. Compare all three durations, exclusions, service-call conditions and whether installation or pipes are included in your location. A long tank warranty does not automatically mean the element or labour has the same coverage.
6. Measure the installation, not just the tank
- Confirm vertical wall space and service clearance.
- Compare the published dimensions with the mounting area and plumbing direction.
- Check that the circuit, switchgear and earthing can safely support a 2,000 W, 230 V appliance.
- Verify inlet pressure, pipe compatibility and the installer’s responsibility for drilling, brackets and valves.
Installation and winter-use checklist
- Have a qualified installer inspect wall strength, plumbing pressure and electrical earthing.
- Install the supplied safety valve and connect inlet and outlet pipes in the specified direction.
- Fill the tank completely before switching on power; running a storage heater dry can damage the element.
- Set a comfortable thermostat temperature rather than using maximum heat by default.

Does a 5-star geyser always reduce electricity bills?
No. The rating indicates tested efficiency under defined conditions; bills also depend on inlet temperature, thermostat setting, reheating frequency, usage and tariff.
