In 2013, Austrian teenager Bernhard Raimann watched the Minnesota Vikings play the Pittsburgh Steelers at Wembley and thought the NFL players looked like “superheroes.” Ahead of Indianapolis’s scheduled return to London in 2026, Raimann is no longer watching from the stands: he is the Colts’ starting left tackle.
The Wembley game that stayed with him
Raimann had only recently started playing American football when he attended Vikings-Steelers at Wembley in 2013. The scale of the NFL experience made an impression. Years later, he recalled seeing the players as “superheroes.”
His return to London carried a different meaning. Speaking to reporters in England on October 2, 2026, Raimann said, “So now being back here and getting to play and knowing what it means to the people here, it’s extremely special for me.”
From Vienna wide receiver to Michigan offensive lineman
Raimann’s route to the NFL crossed both an ocean and several positions. He started playing with Austria’s Vienna Vikings as a wide receiver. A foreign-exchange year took him to Michigan, where he attended Central Michigan University. There he played tight end before switching to the offensive line—a change that put him on the path to a professional career.

How Raimann became a Colts starter
Indianapolis selected Raimann 77th overall in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. By the time the Colts were preparing for their 2026 London game, NFL.com identified him as the team’s starting left tackle.
A dated snapshot gives a sense of his early NFL workload: the Colts’ 2025 media guide records 45 games played and 40 starts through the 2024 season. Those figures describe his first three NFL seasons through 2024, not his current career totals.

Why the return matters to young fans
Raimann hopes his journey can make the distance between watching from the stands and playing in the NFL seem less impossible to a young fan. “I really hope that some kid can see me and listen to my story or see what’s possible and hopefully they can embrace their dreams and keep working every day and shoot, see what happens,” he said in England on October 2, 2026.
