Check the number, wait for one fresh code, verify that your phone can receive automated texts, update BeReal, and restart the device. If you changed numbers or still cannot verify, contact BeReal instead of creating a second account or repeatedly requesting codes.
Fastest safe checklist
- Stop tapping Send code repeatedly.
- Re-enter the complete number using BeReal’s country selector, including the correct country code.
- Wait several minutes for a delayed text.
- Confirm that ordinary SMS messages arrive on the same line.
- Check blocked, spam, junk, filtered, and unknown-sender message folders.
- Confirm cellular service; Wi-Fi alone cannot receive an SMS.
- Install the latest BeReal version shown in your own app store.
- Force-close BeReal and restart the phone.
- Request one new code and enter the newest code received.
- If BeReal says requests are blocked or unusual activity was detected, stop retrying and wait before contacting support.
These steps follow BeReal’s official guidance. BeReal warns that guessing or repeatedly entering incorrect codes can cause a temporary lockout. See BeReal’s verification-code instructions.
Identify what “stuck” looks like

Reports of 400 errors, delayed verification, and being returned to login are anecdotal user accounts, not confirmed diagnoses. Examples include a reported 400 error, missing-code reports, and verification-delay reports.
If the verification SMS never arrives
Recheck the number
- Confirm the selected country and country code.
- Check area-code and remaining digits, including accidental omissions, additions, or spaces.
- Make sure the SIM or eSIM for that number is active in the phone you are using.
- Verify that this is the number originally linked to your BeReal account.
Use BeReal’s country selector and enter the full number expected for that country. Do not keep changing formats unless the app specifically reports a formatting error.

Check message delivery
- Look in blocked, spam, junk, filtered, or unknown-sender folders.
- Temporarily disable message-filtering features that could hide automated texts.
- Ask your carrier whether short-code or business SMS is blocked.
- Check that the messaging inbox is not full.
- With dual SIM or eSIM, confirm the correct line is active and can receive texts.
- If you recently ported the number, ask the carrier whether automated SMS delivery is still pending.
BeReal’s cited pages do not identify one universal sender name or short code, so do not filter for a particular sender.
Update BeReal and restart the phone
BeReal requires the current app version in its troubleshooting instructions. Store listings change by platform, country, and rollout: the US App Store listing captured during research showed version 4.86.1, while Google Play showed a July 10, 2026 update. Treat those as listing observations, not a version everyone must have. Install whatever latest version your own store offers: Apple App Store or Google Play.

- Force-close BeReal.
- Restart the phone.
- Open BeReal again.
- Request one code.
- Wait before requesting another.
- Enter the newest code received.
Reinstalling is not a guaranteed first-line fix. It can remove a locally stored session and send you back to the same verification flow; anecdotal reports describe that outcome (user report). Avoid uninstalling if you still have an old device logged in and need to preserve that access.
If the code arrives but verification remains stuck
- Use the newest code if multiple texts arrived; older messages may no longer be accepted.
- Close and reopen the app to refresh a stale session.
- Check that the phone still has a working data connection while submitting the code.
- Restart the phone and confirm BeReal is updated.
- If the loop continues, record the exact error and contact support.
BeReal’s public guidance does not specify a universal code-expiration time, so do not rely on a promised number of minutes. Request one fresh code and avoid submitting several older codes.

When the phone number changed or is unavailable
This is an account-recovery issue, not ordinary SMS troubleshooting. BeReal’s documented transfer process asks for:
- Previous phone number with country code
- New phone number with country code
- Original BeReal username
- Date of birth
BeReal may request additional identity information. Its help page also says accounts cannot currently be merged or have data transferred between them. If an account is already registered to the new number, BeReal says that account will be permanently deleted shortly after the transfer process. Do not casually create a replacement account if the original account and Memories matter. Follow BeReal’s account-transfer instructions.

If you still have an old logged-in phone, contact support before logging out or deleting the app. If you changed phones but kept the same number, verify that the SIM or eSIM works in the new phone, update BeReal, restart, and then escalate if verification still fails. BeReal does not publish a separate procedure saying that new phones are unsupported.

Do not guess codes, press the request button rapidly, switch repeatedly among numbers or devices, or attempt unofficial workarounds. Wait if BeReal explicitly says requests are temporarily blocked. The official guidance confirms that repeated incorrect attempts can trigger a temporary lockout but does not state a fixed duration, such as 24 hours. If the message persists, contact BeReal rather than trying VPNs, cloned apps, alternate APKs, or code services.

If you cannot log in, use email. Include enough information for support to distinguish an SMS problem from an account problem:

The code [does/does not] arrive. I updated the app, checked SMS filtering, waited, and restarted the device. Screenshot attached.
Attach a screenshot and note approximately when the problem began. Never send a verification code, password, or unnecessary identity documents through an unofficial account.
