Its strengths are workflow and workspace—not high refresh rate or a low price.
What you get with the BenQ PD3225U
BenQ specifies a 31.5-inch panel with a 3840 × 2160 resolution. That is commonly described as a 32-inch 4K display: a large desktop canvas for detailed design work, photo editing, video timelines, and side-by-side documents. The stand offers height adjustment, tilt, swivel, and pivot, so the screen can be positioned for different desk setups or turned vertically.

The trade-off is a 60Hz refresh rate. RTINGS identifies the PD3225U as a 60Hz Thunderbolt 3 display with up to 85W power delivery. That is a conventional productivity and creator-monitor refresh rate, not the fluid-motion experience sought by buyers prioritizing gaming or fast scrolling.
Color credentials and calibration
BenQ lists a factory calibration report, average Delta E ≤2, Calman Verified, Pantone Validated, and Pantone SkinTone Validated. These are the manufacturer’s stated credentials; they should not be read as a guarantee that every unit or viewing setup will reproduce color identically, or as a substitute for independent measurement.

RTINGS’ testing found good color accuracy before calibration, alongside a very cold color temperature. After calibration, it reported extremely accurate color. That distinction matters: the monitor has serious color-work credentials, but users sensitive to neutral whites or doing color-critical work should consider calibration and their own workflow rather than assuming the default image is perfectly tuned.
Thunderbolt, ports, and one-cable desk setup
The port selection is designed to connect a computer, peripherals, and a second display from the monitor. BenQ’s specification page lists:

- Two HDMI 2.0 inputs
- One DisplayPort 1.4 input
- Thunderbolt 3 input with up to 85W power delivery
- Thunderbolt output with up to 15W power delivery
- One downstream USB-C port
- One USB-B upstream port
- Three USB 3.2 downstream ports
BenQ says the Thunderbolt connection carries image, video, data, and charging over one cable. This can simplify a compatible laptop desk: connect the computer to the monitor, then attach supported peripherals to the monitor’s downstream ports. The 85W figure describes the monitor’s stated power delivery, not a guarantee that it will meet the charging needs of every laptop under every workload.

Is the PD3225U good for Mac?
It can be a good fit for a Mac desk when the desired setup is a large 4K workspace, Thunderbolt connectivity, and BenQ’s Mac-oriented controls and software. Its Hotkey Puck provides physical access to monitor functions, and the company positions its software and controls for creative workflows. Those features are useful only if they match how you prefer to switch inputs, color modes, and settings.
Mac owners planning to daisy-chain two displays should check their exact chip and configuration before buying. BenQ says its Thunderbolt chain can extend a workspace to two 4K displays, but its US support information says M1 and M2 Apple Silicon systems do not support this multi-monitor use; it names Pro, Max, and Ultra chips as supporting it. Do not infer compatibility from “Apple Silicon” alone.

How it compares with the Dell U3225QE
The Dell U3225QE is a useful comparison if refresh rate, brightness, power delivery, or connection generation matter more than the BenQ’s particular controls and software. RTINGS identifies the Dell as offering 120Hz, greater brightness, more power delivery, and Thunderbolt 4. TechRadar’s 2026 roundup lists 400 nits for the BenQ; that is a published roundup figure, not a directly comparable brightness measurement from the same test as the Dell values.
| Consideration | BenQ PD3225U | Dell U3225QE |
|---|---|---|
| Refresh rate | 60Hz (RTINGS specification table) | 120Hz (RTINGS comparison) |
| Brightness | 400 nits (TechRadar, 2026 roundup) | Greater than the BenQ, according to RTINGS; a numeric value is not stated here |
| Connection generation | Thunderbolt 3 (RTINGS specification table) | Thunderbolt 4 (RTINGS comparison) |
| Power delivery | Up to 85W (BenQ specifications; RTINGS also identifies 85W) | More than the BenQ, according to RTINGS; a numeric value is not stated here |
| Workflow distinction | Hotkey Puck and BenQ editor software strengths (RTINGS) | Those BenQ-specific features are not the Dell’s stated advantage in this comparison |
Choose based on the axis that affects your work. The Dell’s listed advantages are meaningful if you want smoother motion, more brightness, newer Thunderbolt connectivity, or more laptop power. The BenQ’s physical control and editor-software strengths may matter more if you will use them regularly. Prices and availability vary by region and over time; compare current local listings rather than relying on an undated price.

Who should buy it—and who should look elsewhere
The PD3225U makes sense if
- You want a large 4K canvas for design, photography, video editing, or general desk work.
- Your laptop and workflow can use Thunderbolt 3, and up to 85W charging suits your setup.
- You value the Hotkey Puck, KVM, color modes, or BenQ’s creative-workflow software.
- You are willing to check color behavior and calibrate when your work requires a more controlled result.
Compare alternatives if
- You want a refresh rate above 60Hz for gaming or smoother motion.
- You need higher brightness, more power delivery, or Thunderbolt 4.
- You do not expect to use the BenQ-specific controls and software enough to justify a premium creator monitor.
- You plan a dual-display Mac setup and have not confirmed support for your particular chip and configuration.
Verdict
The BenQ PD3225U is a capable large-format creator and productivity monitor whose clearest appeal is the combination of 4K workspace, Thunderbolt connectivity, color-focused features, and hands-on control. Its 60Hz refresh rate, Thunderbolt 3 generation, and premium positioning narrow its appeal. It is most convincing when its Mac-friendly workflow and physical controls solve real desk needs; if they do not, compare monitors that prioritize refresh rate, brightness, newer connectivity, or value.
