Beko to Close Australian Operations in Q1 2027, Leaving Hitachi Distribution Unclear

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Beko Australia is reported to be closing in the first quarter of 2027, leaving the future Australian distributor of Hitachi-branded home appliances unresolved. The reported exit does not mean Hitachi is leaving the appliance business: Hitachi has separately announced a proposed overseas ownership change and says the business is intended to continue globally. That transaction does not identify who will distribute or service Hitachi appliances in Australia.

What is happening to Beko in Australia?

ChannelNews reported on 2 October 2026 that Beko Australia plans to close in the first quarter of 2027 following an operational review. This is a reported announcement; a separate closure notice was not found on Beko’s official pages. ChannelNews attributed the decision to competitive pressure.

The report says Beko had distributed Hitachi-branded appliances in Australia since September 2023. It also says Bing Lee and Harvey Norman ranged the products, but does not establish whether either retailer will continue to do so after Beko’s exit. ChannelNews’ report

Is Hitachi leaving Australia too?

There is no evidence in the cited announcements that Hitachi is retiring its appliance brand or leaving the Australian market. But the global corporate announcement is not a commitment to maintain Australian distribution: it does not name a replacement local distributor, Australian service operator or transition date.

Beko’s corporate identity announcement says its global rebranding does not apply to Arçelik Hitachi. That clarifies the brand’s status in that context, not who will distribute Hitachi appliances in Australia after Beko’s reported closure. Beko’s corporate identity announcement

How does Hitachi’s separate global transaction fit in?

On 21 April 2026, Hitachi announced that its subsidiary Hitachi Global Life Solutions (Hitachi GLS) and Arçelik had agreed to a share purchase concerning Arçelik’s 60% stake in Arçelik Hitachi Home Appliances B.V. (AHHA), an overseas appliance business established by the companies in 2021. The contractual position is to pass to a new company formed as part of a Hitachi/Nojima home-appliance restructuring.

The proposed transaction remained subject to regulatory clearances and approvals. Hitachi expected the transfers to take place during the fiscal year ending 31 March 2027; that is an anticipated timetable, not confirmation that the transaction has completed.

Hitachi said the future business would continue providing Hitachi-branded home appliances from manufacturing through after-sales service. This describes continuity at the business level and does not establish the Australian distribution or support arrangements. In the announcement, Hitachi Senior Vice President and Executive Officer Noriharu Amiya said: “To ensure sustainable growth of the home appliance business, we have decided to establish a new company under Nojima.” Hitachi’s 21 April 2026 announcement

What happens to Hitachi appliances and warranties in Australia?

ChannelNews reports that Beko says it has arranged ongoing after-sales customer service and will honour warranties under Australian Consumer Law and Beko’s warranty terms. The report does not set out the detailed service handover or explain how requests will be handled after closure, so it cannot establish the route for a particular future repair or warranty claim. ChannelNews’ report

Hitachi Australia’s support page identifies Beko A&NZ Pty Ltd as the distributor and lists customer care at 1300 470 552, Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm AEDST. The page’s listing was crawled several months before October 2026, so check the current Hitachi Australia support page before relying on the number or hours. Beko’s warranty page describes existing Beko product warranty and registration options; its continued availability online does not establish what support structure will operate after the planned closure.

What remains unresolved for Australian buyers?

  • Who will distribute Hitachi-branded appliances in Australia, and when any change will take effect.
  • Whether Bing Lee and Harvey Norman will continue carrying the range after Beko’s reported exit.
  • Which organisation will handle Hitachi appliance servicing and how the transition will work for existing owners.
  • Whether the proposed AHHA transaction receives the required approvals and completes on Hitachi’s anticipated timetable.

ChannelNews also reported combined Australian and New Zealand turnover of $17 million, but did not state the accounting period or provide a primary source for the figure. It should not be treated as a verified annual revenue figure. ChannelNews’ report
