Removing a login method usually changes how you enter an app; it does not automatically delete your account with that app. Deleting an identity-provider account is much broader: it can remove the provider’s email, files, photos, and access to its services. First identify what you want to stop, then use the control whose scope matches that goal.
What kind of account change do you need?
“Delete my login” can mean several different things. A sign-in connection, an app’s permission to read provider data, an account saved on one device, an app’s own profile, and the identity-provider account itself are separate things. Choosing the wrong control can leave the problem unsolved—or remove more than you intended.

| Action | What it affects | What it does not automatically do |
|---|---|---|
| Stop a sign-in method | How you authenticate to a particular app or service | Delete the app’s account or its stored data |
| Revoke an app’s data authorization | Whether that app can access specified provider data | Delete the app account or necessarily stop every sign-in method |
| Remove an account from a device | The account’s presence on that device | Delete the provider account itself |
| Delete an app or service account | The profile and data held by that service, according to its own process | Delete the identity-provider account used to sign in |
| Delete the identity-provider account | The provider account and associated services or content | Automatically delete accounts held by third-party apps that used it |
These distinctions are reflected in Apple’s separate controls for Sign in with Apple, iCloud data access, and Apple Account deletion, and Google’s separate guidance for removing an account from a device and deleting a Google Account. Apple’s Sign in with Apple guidance, Apple’s iCloud app-access guidance, and Google’s account-deletion guidance describe different outcomes.

How do I remove Sign in with Apple from an app?
Apple’s Sign in with Apple control stops that authentication relationship; Apple says you will be signed out of the app on your device. It does not, by itself, establish that the app has deleted your profile or data. Apple says you may later use Sign in with Apple again for the same account or create a new account, depending on how the app handles it. Some developers use one Sign in with Apple relationship across multiple apps, so stopping it for one app can affect those apps as well. Review Apple’s current instructions at Manage your apps with Sign in with Apple.

Before stopping the method, check whether the app offers another usable way to sign in. If you remove the only method you can use, you may have trouble returning to the existing app account. If your actual goal is to prevent the app from accessing iCloud Mail, Calendar, or Contacts, use the separate authorization control for supported third-party apps instead. Apple says that after access is removed, the app cannot access that data until you authorize it again; see Access your iCloud Mail, Calendar, and Contacts in third-party apps.
What does deleting a Google Account remove?
Deleting a Google Account is not the same as removing it from a phone or deleting Gmail alone. Google warns that deleting the account can remove data such as email, files, calendars, and photos; end access to services including Gmail, Drive, Calendar, and Play; and affect some purchased content or subscriptions associated with that account. Check Google’s current scope and steps in Delete your Google Account.

If you only want to stop using Gmail while keeping the rest of the Google Account, follow the product-specific option rather than the full-account deletion flow. If you only want to sign out or remove the account from one device, use that device’s account controls; Google distinguishes that from deleting the account itself.
How do I delete an account without losing access to other apps?
Third-party services generally manage their own accounts. Deleting the identity provider does not, on the evidence available here, establish what each app will do to an account originally created through that provider. You could lose the ability to authenticate or receive password-reset messages even if the third-party account remains. Google specifically advises changing the Gmail address used by banking, social media, and apps before deleting a Google Account. Verify recovery, billing, and sign-in arrangements with each service.

- Make an inventory. List apps and services that use the provider’s sign-in, email address, or data permissions. Check important services individually rather than assuming they will be deleted or transferred automatically.
- Secure another way in. Where a service allows it, add and verify another sign-in method, recovery email, or phone number before removing the old one.
- Update account contact details. Change the provider email address used for banking, social media, apps, billing, and password recovery, then confirm the new address works.
- Handle app data separately. If you want a service’s profile or stored data erased, use that service’s account-deletion process. Revoking provider access or deleting the provider account is not a substitute.
- Check subscriptions and purchases. Review services and content tied to the provider account, including whether access or billing depends on it.
What to do before permanently deleting the provider account
For a full account deletion, first review what is attached to the account and preserve anything you may need. Google recommends reviewing and downloading wanted account information and updating external services that use the Gmail address. Its deletion guidance explains the potential loss of account data and services: Delete your Google Account.
- Download or otherwise preserve wanted email, files, photos, calendars, and other account information.
- Check subscriptions, purchases, and services that rely on the account.
- Replace the account email and update sign-in or recovery details on outside services.
- Confirm that each important service has a working alternative login or recovery route.
- Read the provider’s current deletion and recovery terms for your account type and region before confirming.
Do not assume account deletion means every copy of every item disappears immediately. Google’s Privacy Help Center says account content is removed from its systems after “a certain amount of time,” without giving one universal timeline in the reviewed guidance. Retention and deletion timing can vary by provider and content. See Google’s Privacy Help Center.

How to choose the least destructive option
- You want to stop using one sign-in button: change or remove that sign-in method, after confirming another way into the existing app account.
- You want an app to stop reading provider data: revoke that app’s authorization. This is distinct from changing how you sign in.
- You want to sign out on one device: remove the account from that device or use its session controls; do not delete the provider account unless you intend the broader consequences.
- You want an app’s profile and data erased: use the app or service’s own deletion process.
- You want to leave the provider entirely: inventory linked services, export what you need, update outside accounts, and then use the provider’s full-account deletion flow.
Apple and Google illustrate these different scopes, but their controls are not a universal template for every provider. Exact menus, recovery options, and effects depend on the provider, platform, region, and account type; consult the provider’s current instructions before confirming a destructive action. Apple also documents temporary deactivation and permanent Apple Account deletion as distinct choices on its account privacy page: Understand and control the personal information that you store with Apple.
