The Beats Studio Pro is the better fit if you specifically want lossless listening over USB-C, a 3.5 mm input, or Beats’ sound tuning. Battery life is close in one independent test, and neither model is a universal comfort winner.

Which one is better for noise cancellation?
Pick the Sony WH-1000XM5 if blocking outside noise is your main priority. RTINGS favors Sony’s noise cancellation overall. SoundGuys describes Sony’s advantage as slight in both passive and active reduction in the mid and high ranges; it does not establish a specific decibel gap. Actual results can vary with fit and listening conditions.

Beats describes Studio Pro’s ANC as fully adaptive, adjusting to the environment, and includes a Transparency mode. That is a manufacturer description of its feature, not evidence that Beats cancels noise better than Sony. The Beats Studio Pro product page lists these modes.

How do they differ for music and wired listening?
Beats Studio Pro: USB-C lossless audio
Beats offers a distinctive option: lossless audio over USB-C, as well as a 3.5 mm input. Choose it if you want to listen through a USB-C connection and that wired format suits your devices. A claim of lossless USB-C playback should not be treated as a general claim that Beats is better over every connection.
Sony WH-1000XM5: LDAC over Bluetooth
Sony supports SBC, AAC and LDAC Bluetooth codecs. LDAC can be useful when your source device supports it and you want that Bluetooth option; it is a different connection path from Beats’ USB-C lossless playback. Sony also supports a 3.5 mm cable, according to SoundGuys. Codec availability and behavior depend on the source device. Sony lists the WH-1000XM5’s audio specifications on its specification page.

On sound character, SoundGuys favors Beats’ tuning for many listeners and describes bass emphasis on the Sony. Those are review judgments, not universal outcomes. RTINGS finds Sony offers more extensive in-app sound customization; SoundGuys notes that Beats’ onboard sound profiles are available over USB. If you like to adjust EQ, Sony has the stronger case; if you prefer Beats’ tuning, that may matter more than reviewer preference.

How long does the battery last?
Manufacturer ratings use different conditions, so the headline figures are not a direct like-for-like comparison. Beats advertises up to 40 hours for Studio Pro and up to four hours of playback after a 10-minute Fast Fuel charge. Sony specifies up to 30 hours with noise cancelling on and up to 40 hours with it off. These are maximum advertised figures, not guaranteed runtimes; Sony’s help information also distinguishes runtime by codec and operating conditions. Check the Sony battery-life guidance for those details.

For a more comparable test, SoundGuys measured 31 hours, 25 minutes for Beats Studio Pro and 31 hours, 53 minutes for Sony WH-1000XM5 in its standardized battery test. That test result suggests they were close under SoundGuys’ test conditions; your runtime may differ with settings and use.
Which is better for calls, pairing and daily use?
For calls and frequent sound adjustments, Sony is the safer choice based on RTINGS’ comparison: it favors Sony’s microphone performance and app-based sound customization. Sony also supports multi-device pairing, which is useful if you regularly switch between devices. RTINGS reports quick pairing on Android for Sony and quick pairing on both iOS and Android for Beats.

Beats may suit a mixed Apple-and-Android household if quick pairing across both platforms is the priority. RTINGS also reports USB-C compatibility with PlayStation. Match these capabilities to the devices you actually use rather than assuming that the brand ecosystem alone decides the better fit.
Which headphones are more comfortable?
There is not enough basis here to declare a universal comfort winner. Beats markets UltraPlush ear cushions and an adjustable headband for extended listening, but that is manufacturer positioning, not an independent guarantee of comfort. Head shape, clamping pressure, glasses and heat tolerance can change how either pair feels. If possible, try them on for more than a few minutes before buying, especially if you plan to wear them on long trips.
