For a single room with weak Wi-Fi, a range extender can be a practical fix—provided it sits where it can still receive a strong signal from your router. T3’s 29 September 2026 recommendations span a budget Wi-Fi 6 model, an outdoor unit for an existing TP-Link Deco mesh, and a Wi-Fi 7 extender for an EasyMesh-compatible router. T3 lists products for different situations; it does not document comparative hands-on testing, so these are not independent test winners.
Which Wi-Fi extender fits your home?
Choose based on where coverage is missing and what equipment you already have. An extender receives the router’s Wi-Fi and rebroadcasts it; it cannot repeat a signal it does not receive well. For a localized dead zone in an otherwise well-covered home, one extender may be worth considering. If several rooms or a large part of the property have weak coverage, compare a mesh system instead.

- For a lower-cost Wi-Fi 6 option: consider the Mercusys ME80X.
- To carry an existing Deco mesh outdoors: consider the TP-Link Deco BE25-Outdoor.
- For Wi-Fi 7 with a compatible EasyMesh router: consider the TP-Link RE225BE.
Three extenders to consider
Mercusys ME80X: a budget-minded Wi-Fi 6 extender
T3 presents the ME80X as its inexpensive option. It reports dual-band advertised rates up to 3,000 Mbps: 2,402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. These are maximum link-rate specifications, not a promise of internet download speed; real performance depends on the router connection, interference, distance, and client devices. The unit also has a Gigabit Ethernet port, which can connect a wired device such as a television or console, or support access-point use when connected to the router by Ethernet.

TP-Link Deco BE25-Outdoor: for extending an existing Deco mesh outside
This is the pick for extending a TP-Link Deco mesh into a garden, patio, or shed. T3 says it can connect to the mesh by Wi-Fi or Ethernet, is designed for pole or wall mounting, and is weatherproofed. Its advertised dual-band link rates are up to 3,600 Mbps—2,882 Mbps on 5 GHz and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz—and it has two 2.5 Gbps Ethernet ports.
Keep the compatibility context in mind: this is presented as an outdoor extension for an existing Deco mesh, not as a generic repeater guaranteed to work with every router. T3 showed £129.99 at Amazon on 29 September 2026, reduced from a stated £179.99. Both figures are historical UK listing prices and may no longer apply. TP-Link RE225BE: Wi-Fi 7 with EasyMesh support
T3 describes the RE225BE as a dual-band Wi-Fi 7 extender with advertised rates up to 3,600 Mbps: 2,882 Mbps on 5 GHz and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. It is intended to work with an EasyMesh-compatible router, so check the router’s compatibility rather than assuming that any router will provide a coordinated mesh setup. A Gigabit Ethernet port can connect a wired client, and T3 reports app and WPS setup options.

What to check before choosing
- Router and client compatibility: consider the Wi-Fi generations and bands supported by your router and the devices you use. A newer extender cannot make older clients use a newer Wi-Fi generation.
- Mesh compatibility: coordinated roaming depends on a compatible mesh setup. A conventional extender may rebroadcast Wi-Fi without coordinating handoffs between access points in the same way.
- Size of the coverage gap: one weak room is a more suitable target for an extender than multiple rooms spread across a large home.
- Ethernet needs: a port can help connect a wired device. With a suitable model and a wired link back to the router, it may also allow access-point placement.
Some extenders share radio capacity between the router link and rebroadcast traffic, which can reduce available bandwidth. The result depends on the extender design and network setup; advertised maximum link rates should not be read as expected household throughput. TP-Link’s support guidance compares extenders, powerline, and mesh options.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Where to place an extender
Start roughly halfway between the router and the weak-signal area, but keep the extender within usable router coverage. Putting it directly in the dead zone can leave it with too weak a signal to repeat effectively. Placement is a starting point, not a fixed measurement: walls, metal objects, appliances, and the home’s layout can all affect reception.

- Dual Band WiFi Extender: Up to 44% more bandwidth than single band N300 WiFi extenders. Boost Internet WiFi coverage up to 1200 square feet and connects up to 30 devices(2.4GHz: 300Mbps; 5GHz: 433Mbps)
- Choose a location between the router and the room with drop-outs, where the router’s Wi-Fi still works reliably.
- Check the extender’s signal indicator or router-link status after setup. NETGEAR’s guidance for its own extenders uses green for best, amber for good, and red for poor; indicator meanings can vary by product.
- If the link is weak, move the extender closer to the router or clear an obstructed path, then check again.
- Test the connection in the room you want to cover. If the result remains poor, try another location rather than assuming the extender can compensate for a weak incoming signal.
TP-Link identifies concrete walls, metal, and microwaves as possible interference sources. NETGEAR’s placement guidance also recommends using the device’s router-link indicator when positioning its extenders.
