CHOICE found its 4K picture good, but its standard- and high-definition picture and sound only OK; its 70% expert rating did not earn a recommendation. That makes it a cautious, price-dependent choice—especially if most of what you watch is broadcast or HD content.
What CHOICE found in its test
In an article last updated 23 September 2025, CHOICE gave the ATV55UHDW-0124 an expert rating of 70%. It was the highest-scoring Aldi TV CHOICE had tested at that time, but the result was still below the level needed for a recommendation. CHOICE’s accessible summary says 4K video looked good, while standard- and high-definition picture quality was only OK; sound quality was also rated OK. CHOICE’s test summary is the basis for those findings.

Picture quality depends on what you watch
The split between 4K and SD/HD performance matters in everyday use. If your viewing is mostly 4K content, the published result is encouraging. If you mainly watch broadcast television or older HD material, CHOICE’s findings offer less reason to expect a strong picture. The available summary does not provide category scores or more detailed test measurements.

Sound is a compromise
CHOICE’s test team described the sound as “a bit harsh while lacking in punch and warmth.” That is a tester observation, not an owner review. The evidence supports caution about the TV’s built-in sound, but does not establish how it compares with any particular external speaker.

Should you buy this Aldi Bauhn TV?
It may suit someone who finds the TV available at a compelling price, values a 55-inch 4K screen and expects to watch a meaningful amount of 4K content. The test result is less reassuring for viewers whose usual material is SD or HD, or who care about warm, forceful built-in sound. CHOICE’s 70% rating is not a recommendation, so the headline number should not be mistaken for an endorsement.

Bauhn says its products are sold exclusively through ALDI stores in Australia on a promotional basis. That means stock may be tied to a limited promotion rather than a continuously available listing. CHOICE currently shows no retailer prices or purchase links for the exact ATV55UHDW-0124, so check ALDI’s current offers rather than treating A$429 as an active price. Bauhn’s information about where its products are sold and CHOICE’s product-page details provide the relevant availability context.
Check the full model suffix before relying on a manual or support terms. The official manual surfaced for the related ATV55UHDW-1024 is for a different model, so its return-offer and support details should not be assumed to apply to the ATV55UHDW-0124. Bauhn’s support page directs owners to manuals and software updates; CHOICE’s exact-model page lists a one-year warranty.
