Battlefield 6 PC Graphics Settings: What to Lower for More FPS

For the quickest Battlefield 6 FPS improvement, open Settings > Graphics, choose Modify, and set Undergrowth Quality, Effects Quality, Volumetric Quality, Lighting Quality, Local Light & Shadow Quality, Sun Shadow Quality, and Post Process Quality to Low. Electronic Arts identifies these as the less noticeable settings to lower first. If performance is still below your target, try the full Low preset, then evaluate upscaling on hardware that supports it.

The seven settings to lower first

These are the primary Battlefield 6 settings to reduce when you want more frames without immediately making every surface look worse. EA recommends lowering each to Low before changing the rest of the menu.

Setting What lowering it changes Why it is an early adjustment
Undergrowth Quality Vegetation and ground-cover detail Vegetation is visually busy, but reduced detail is usually less distracting than reduced resolution or texture quality.
Effects Quality Detail in explosions, sparks, smoke and other effects Combat effects are temporary, so lowering their complexity is a practical first trade-off.
Volumetric Quality Fog, volumetric light and atmospheric effects Volumetrics can be expensive to render and are less important than a stable view of targets.
Lighting Quality General lighting calculation and detail Lower lighting reduces visual complexity while preserving the core scene.
Local Light & Shadow Quality Shadows and lighting from nearby sources Local shadows add detail, but they are not essential to identifying the map or opponents.
Sun Shadow Quality Shadows cast by the sun Sun shadows can be costly across large outdoor scenes; Low is an efficient compromise.
Post Process Quality Effects applied after the scene is rendered Post-processing is often less noticeable than geometry or resolution changes, making it a sensible early reduction.

EA does not publish a per-setting FPS gain or a percentage improvement for this list. Treat it as a priority order, not a promise that every computer will gain the same number of frames.

How to apply the settings in Battlefield 6

  1. Launch the game and open Settings.
  2. Choose Graphics.
  3. Select Modify next to the Graphics option or preset.
  4. Set Undergrowth Quality, Effects Quality, Volumetric Quality, Lighting Quality, Local Light & Shadow Quality, Sun Shadow Quality and Post Process Quality to Low.
  5. Apply the changes, load the same map or mode you normally play, and check whether your minimums and frame pacing meet your target.
  6. If performance is still insufficient, lower additional options gradually or use the full Low preset.

Changing a few options at a time makes it easier to identify which compromise you can tolerate. The full-Low fallback is EA’s recommendation when the initial group is not enough; a one-setting-at-a-time comparison is a practical way to preserve quality where your system can afford it.

Settings that improve visibility and competitive clarity

Turn Screen Space Reflections off if reflections obscure targets

EA notes that some players find enemies easier to spot in buildings or through water with Screen Space Reflections disabled. This is a visibility preference, not a published FPS measurement. Reflections can make wet floors, windows and water look richer, but turning them off can produce a cleaner, less distracting image in those situations.

Reduce motion blur and camera shake

For a clearer competitive view, lower World Motion Blur, Weapon Motion Blur and Camera Shake Amount. These controls affect how the image feels while turning, sprinting, firing or experiencing explosions. They are primarily clarity and comfort adjustments; EA’s guidance does not quantify an FPS gain from changing them.

Disable extra post-processing effects

Switch off Chromatic Aberration, Vignette and Film Grain if you prefer a sharp, neutral image. Chromatic aberration adds color fringing, vignette darkens the edges and film grain overlays noise. Disabling them can make enemy outlines and distant objects easier to inspect, but these toggles should not be presented as guaranteed performance upgrades.

What to do if Low is still too slow

Use a controlled fallback rather than guessing

  • Confirm that the seven priority settings are actually saved at Low.
  • Try the complete Low preset if the target frame rate remains out of reach.
  • Retest in the same resolution, display mode and game scenario so the comparison is meaningful.
  • Watch the worst moments, such as large firefights and effects-heavy areas, rather than judging only an empty corridor.
  • Restore one setting at a time if the Low preset makes the image unacceptable, starting with the options you value most.

The official guide does not provide controlled benchmarks by GPU, resolution, game mode or preset. Consequently, no responsible guide can promise that a particular setting will add a fixed number of frames on your computer.

Upscaling, frame generation and native rendering

Battlefield 6 supports several hardware-dependent technologies. EA’s August 28, 2025 PC feature article lists Intel XeSS and AMD FSR for upscaling, frame generation, anti-aliasing and latency reduction. It also lists NVIDIA support for DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation, DLSS Frame Generation, DLSS Super Resolution, DLAA and NVIDIA Reflex. This is a launch-era feature statement, so the options shown in your game and driver may vary with GPU, driver version and current updates.

Upscaling

Upscaling renders the game at a lower internal resolution and reconstructs the output at your display resolution. It can be useful when the GPU is the limiting component, but the visual result depends on the selected mode, output resolution and hardware. Compare supported DLSS, FSR or XeSS modes in the same scene and look for shimmer, ghosting, fine-detail loss and unstable frame pacing. The available evidence does not establish one universally best technology or preset for every GPU and resolution.

Frame generation

Frame generation creates additional displayed frames from rendered frames. A higher displayed frame count is not identical to a higher base rendering rate, and it does not automatically improve control responsiveness. Check the underlying rendered FPS, input feel and frame-time consistency instead of judging only the counter. If the image feels delayed or artifacts appear around moving objects, use a different mode or disable frame generation.

Latency and anti-aliasing options

DLAA, Reflex and the latency-related features listed by EA serve different purposes from ordinary upscaling. Select only options your GPU supports, then compare clarity and responsiveness at your chosen resolution. Do not assume that enabling every available feature is faster or feels better.

Battlefield 6 technical director Christian Buhl told PC Gamer on August 28, 2025: We want Battlefield 6 to run great without [DLSS], and we want to give you the option to use it if you want. The same interview attributed to Buhl the statement that default performance targets were not set with upscaling enabled. That supports treating upscaling as an optional tool rather than a requirement for the game’s baseline settings.

Minimum and recommended PC requirements

EA’s published requirements describe hardware tiers, not guaranteed FPS at a particular resolution or preset. They are useful for diagnosing whether settings changes alone are likely to be enough.

Component Minimum Recommended
Operating system Windows 10 Windows 11
Processor AMD Ryzen 5 2600 or Intel Core i5-8400 AMD Ryzen 7 3700X or Intel Core i7-10700
Memory 16 GB 16 GB
Graphics card AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT 6GB, NVIDIA RTX 2060 or Intel Arc A380 AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT, NVIDIA RTX 3060 Ti or Intel Arc B580
Video memory 6 GB 8 GB
DirectX DirectX 12 DirectX 12
Storage 55 GiB on an HDD 80 GiB on an SSD
Connection Online connection required Online connection required

Both tiers list 16 GB of system memory. The minimum graphics tier lists 6 GB of VRAM, while the recommended tier lists 8 GB. Storage requirements also differ: EA specifies 55 GiB on an HDD for minimum hardware and 80 GiB on an SSD for the recommended configuration. Meeting the recommended list still does not establish a particular frame rate, because resolution, refresh-rate target, drivers, background load and in-game settings all affect the result.

When settings changes are not enough

If your computer is below the minimum tier, or if it remains below your target after the seven settings and full-Low fallback, a hardware limit may be the reason. A graphics-card upgrade is a conditional next step, not an automatic recommendation. Choose only after checking:

EA’s recommended models—Radeon RX 6700 XT, GeForce RTX 3060 Ti and Intel Arc B580—are reference points from the requirements page, not a current buying list or a value ranking. Prices, stock and the best upgrade for a particular system are not established by those requirements alone.

A repeatable tuning method

Start from a known baseline

Record your resolution, refresh rate, graphics preset, upscaling mode and whether frame generation is enabled. Use the same map, mode and comparable action for each test. This avoids attributing a change to a setting when the real cause was a different scene.

Prioritize worst-case smoothness

Judge the lowest sustained performance and frame-time consistency during smoke, explosions and crowded fights. A high average with severe dips can feel worse than a lower but steadier result. Keep a setting only when its visual benefit is worth the worst-case cost you observe.

Separate image-quality decisions from performance decisions

Use the seven EA-listed options for the initial performance pass. Use reflections, blur, camera shake, chromatic aberration, vignette and film grain to shape visibility and comfort. Test upscaling and frame generation separately, because their effects on clarity, base rendering and responsiveness are different.

Stop when the target is met

There is no advantage in lowering every option if your desired minimum and frame pacing are already achieved. Keep the highest-quality settings that do not compromise the experience you are targeting, and revisit them after major game or driver updates.

Common mistakes and fixes

  • Expecting a guaranteed FPS number: EA publishes the settings order but no per-setting gains. Measure on your own hardware.
  • Confusing frame generation with base FPS: check rendered performance and input response, not only the displayed-frame counter.
  • Changing resolution first: begin with the seven less-noticeable settings when you want to preserve image clarity.
  • Assuming recommended hardware guarantees a preset: requirements are compatibility tiers, not benchmark promises.
  • Blaming reflections or blur for every slowdown: EA presents those changes mainly as visibility choices; do not count on a measured performance increase.
  • Changing many variables at once: adjust a small group, retest the same scenario and keep a note of what changed.
