This was part of Bankwest’s wider withdrawal from physical branches; Bankwest now describes itself as a fully digital bank with no branches. Existing accounts and the Bankwest brand did not disappear, but customers must use the app, online banking, telephone support, Bankmail, ATMs and limited Bank@Post services instead of a Bankwest counter.
What exactly closed in Morley?
The closure covered the Bankwest branch and its associated ATM at 248 Walter Road, Morley. The physical branch service ended at 12pm on 3 September 2024. It did not close Bankwest accounts or end Bankwest’s banking operation.
Bankwest’s current contact information says the bank has no branches. Face-to-face access is now limited to specific third-party services, principally participating Australia Post outlets, while ordinary support is handled digitally or by phone.
Why did Bankwest close the branch?
Bankwest said the decision followed a sustained shift from counters to digital channels and was intended to redirect investment into technology, operations, broker services and customer support. The bank’s figures in its Morley closure assessment show:

- An average of 67 over-the-counter transactions per day at Morley in February 2024.
- Those transactions were down 20.8% compared with February 2023.
- Bankwest recorded more than 650,358 average daily personal-banking logins through its app and online banking in December 2023.
- In its wider March 2024 announcement, Bankwest said 97% of transactions were digital and fewer than 2% of customers regularly visited a branch.
These are Bankwest’s own aggregate usage figures, not an independent audit of how well every customer can manage without a branch. The bank also identified the migration of its business-banking customers to CommBank as one contributor to lower branch demand.

Was Morley an isolated closure?
No. In March 2024, Bankwest announced that 45 branches would close by October 2024. It also said 15 regional locations would be converted into Commonwealth Bank branches. That distinction matters: Bankwest itself no longer operates a branch network, but some former sites continued under the CommBank brand.
The change did not automatically turn every Bankwest customer into a CommBank customer. Bankwest retained its digital products, and it described a voluntary pathway for about 2,000 customers who used branches exclusively to move to CommBank everyday-banking accounts if they wanted continuing access to a branch.

Bank@Post: the closest local replacement for basic cash services
At participating Australia Post outlets, Bankwest customers can generally check a balance, deposit cash, withdraw cash and make a Bankwest credit-card repayment. You need your Bankwest card and PIN, and transaction limits and outlet restrictions apply.
For the Morley closure, Bankwest listed the Morley Post Shop at Centro Galleria, Shop 52, 4 Collier Road, about 1 kilometre from the former branch. The closure assessment recorded hours of Monday to Friday 9am–5pm, Saturday 9am–12:30pm and Sunday closed. Those hours were historical information in the 2024 assessment; check Australia Post’s current listing before travelling.
Bankwest estimated that up to 96% of cash withdrawals and deposits previously handled in a branch could be completed through Bank@Post. That is a service-capability estimate, not a promise that every transaction will be accepted at every outlet.
Bank@Post is not a full branch replacement. It does not provide lending advice, unrestricted transaction sizes, account restructuring or specialist investigation of every fraud, identity, estate or power-of-attorney issue. Customers without a card and PIN may also be unable to use the relevant service.

Cash, ATMs, coins and cheques
ATM withdrawals
Bankwest says customers can withdraw cash from CommBank, ANZ, NAB and Westpac ATMs without a Bankwest ATM fee. An independent ATM operator may still impose its own fee. A credit-card cash advance can also attract separate interest and fees.
Coins
At Bank@Post, loose coins are accepted up to $20. Larger amounts must be bagged by denomination, subject to the outlet’s procedures.
Cheques
Cheque deposits are not available through the Bankwest app. Selected CommBank ATMs and Bank@Post locations may accept them, but acceptance and limits vary, so confirm with the specific outlet first.
What the digital model means in practice
Most customer contact now happens through the Bankwest App, Online Banking, telephone support and Bankmail, the secure message channel inside online banking for documents and loan-related communications. Bankwest launched a new app and website in February 2025. Its published availability page reports 100% availability for card payments and online account access in the first quarter of 2026, and 99.92% availability for fast payments during that reporting period.

Home-loan customers can continue dealing with Bankwest through brokers, phone support and secure document channels rather than a branch. Bankwest’s model is therefore branchless, not devoid of all physical services: ATMs, Bank@Post, mailed documents and telephone assistance remain available.

- Install or open the official Bankwest App, or go to Bankwest Online Banking by entering the bank’s address yourself.
- Have your Personal Access Number ready. Bankwest’s first-login process also uses a password or four-digit PIN.
- Confirm that the mobile number and email registered with Bankwest are still accessible.
- Enable transaction and security notifications after you sign in.
- Use in-app messaging or Bankmail for documents and account questions that should not be sent by ordinary email.
- Save 13 17 19 independently so you can call if your phone, password, PIN or identity checks fail.
If you have forgotten a password or PIN, use the reset option on the app or online-banking login screen. If your registered phone or email is obsolete, or you cannot complete identity verification, call Bankwest for the next step rather than repeatedly guessing credentials.

Bankwest first-time login guidance
When digital banking is difficult
Contact Bankwest before a problem becomes urgent if you cannot use a smartphone, have unreliable internet, need accessibility adjustments, handle cash or coins regularly, or require help with an estate, power of attorney, fraud investigation, identity verification or a large unusual transaction. Ask specifically what specialist or assisted channel is available; the bank does not promise that every case can be handled at a CommBank branch or Bank@Post.
Bankwest said affected branch-only customers could choose a support pathway that included moving to a CommBank everyday-banking account for continued branch access. That was an option for eligible customers, not a blanket transfer of all Bankwest accounts.
CommBank in Morley: useful, but not automatically a Bankwest branch
The closure assessment identified CommBank Morley at Shop SP158, Morley Galleria, corner of Collier and Walter roads, about 40 metres from the former Bankwest site. A CommBank branch may be useful for customers who choose a CommBank account or whose request CommBank agrees to handle, but Bankwest and CommBank remain distinct service channels. Confirm eligibility, documents and appointment requirements before making a special trip.
Protect yourself from closure-related scams
- Open the official Bankwest app or type the Bankwest web address manually instead of following an unexpected link or QR code.
- Never give a caller your password, SMS verification code, full login details or card security information.
- Bankwest’s closure warnings do not ask you to submit a Personal Access Number, password or SMS code through a link.
- If a message looks suspicious, end the conversation and contact Bankwest through the number on its official contact page or through in-app messaging.
What happened to Morley staff?
Bankwest said each affected branch colleague would be offered a new career opportunity, with roles redirected across technology, operations and customer service. PerthNow reported that about 350 affected staff were offered new roles. That does not establish that every employee accepted or remained in a Bankwest role.

The practical trade-off
For customers comfortable with apps, a branchless Bankwest can provide 24/7 account access without travelling. For people who depend on cash, coins, personal explanations or help with unusual cases, Bank@Post and CommBank provide only partial alternatives. The right next step is therefore determined by the service you actually need: use digital banking for routine work, Bank@Post for defined cash and repayment transactions, and contact Bankwest in advance for accessibility, identity, fraud, estate, lending or business-banking issues.
