Bank of us Home Contents Plus advertises two years of temporary accommodation for eligible owner-occupiers in a strata or similar scheme, compared with 12 months under its Standard contents cover. It also includes accidental damage and motor burnout automatically, and offers higher limits on some benefits. Those are product-page summaries, not a substitute for checking the current policy documents and your certificate.
What Home Contents Plus offers strata owners
Bank of us says that if you own and live in a home in a strata or similar scheme, reasonable temporary-accommodation costs may be covered when a covered event makes the home uninhabitable. Contents Plus advertises a maximum period of two years; Standard advertises 12 months. The exact conditions, limits and assessment of reasonable costs depend on the applicable policy wording and your certificate. Bank of us’s Contents Insurance page lists covered-event examples including theft and vandalism, flood and rainwater run-off, storm and storm surge, tsunami, and fire, including bushfire. It says actions of the sea such as tides and waves are not covered.

These figures are benefit limits described on Bank of us’s product page, not guaranteed payments for every claim. The page says motors must be within 15 years of manufacture; motors covered by warranty or used in a business are excluded. The PDS and certificate determine whether a particular loss qualifies.

What “strata contents” means—and what to check about fixtures
Contents cover is not a substitute for understanding what the strata scheme insures. Bank of us lists “Owner fixtures – Strata scheme” as a benefit category, but its public comparison does not provide the detailed wording or limits for that benefit. The current policy documents are therefore essential if you want to know whether fixtures in your particular home are covered and under what conditions.
An older CGU ANZ Home Insurance PDS, revision 0 dated July 2023, describes a strata benefit that can treat certain fixtures as General Contents, including built-in furniture and cupboards, stoves, hot water services, shower screens, paint and wallpaper, and built-in air-conditioning. That document concerns a different partner and is not confirmation of current Bank of us cover. Do not rely on its fixture list to decide what to insure; confirm the applicable wording with Bank of us or the insurer.

Portable contents and other limits
Portable contents cover is optional with Contents Plus. Bank of us advertises cover for loss, theft and accidental damage up to $10,000 per item unless an item is separately listed. Geographic restrictions apply outside Australia or New Zealand, and the page identifies exclusions including scratches and dents, items being cleaned or repaired, and certain items while in use. Check the current PDS for the full conditions and whether valuable items need to be listed separately.
Bank of us also says policyholders can choose their repairer. If you use a non-partner repairer, CGU will not provide its partner-repairer workmanship guarantee or manage the repair’s quality and timing; settlement is limited to what CGU considers a fair and reasonable repair cost. The page says authorised repairs carry a lifetime workmanship guarantee.

How to decide whether the cover suits your household
- Check what the strata scheme covers. Confirm which parts of the building and fixtures are insured through the scheme and which belongings or fixtures you need to insure yourself.
- Estimate replacement value carefully. Bank of us describes its contents calculator as a guide and says customers must ensure their contents are insured for full replacement value. A sum insured higher than the actual repair, replacement or rebuild cost does not increase payment beyond that actual cost. An inventory of belongings and estimated replacement values can help you prepare.
- Consider the benefits you may actually use. The advertised longer temporary-accommodation period, automatic accidental-damage and motor-burnout cover, and higher food-spoilage limit distinguish Plus from Standard. They do not establish that Plus is better value for every household.
- Compare your quote and certificate. Premiums depend on the individual quote; Bank of us does not publish a general premium amount. The page says payment can be made fortnightly, monthly or quarterly at no extra cost.
What to verify before buying
Bank of us says it acts under its own Australian Financial Services Licence and under an agreement with Insurance Australia Limited, which issues the insurance under the CGU brand. It also says it receives commission on insurance products. Bank of us’s important-information page provides its disclosures.
The linked PDS and Target Market Determination (TMD) were not available to verify during this review. Bank of us’s disclosure page lists CGU PDS/TMD documents dated 20 May 2025, but the applicable current documents and terms should be confirmed before purchase.
