Its public summary lists cover for a range of insured events, but it does not provide enough detail to judge exclusions, excesses, claim settlements or price. Treat the summary as a starting point, then check the current policy documents and your quote before deciding.
Who provides the policy?
Bank of us presents Contents Standard as a contents policy for people renting their home. The bank distributes the product; its disclosure identifies Insurance Australia Limited, trading under the CGU brand, as the insurer. What does Contents Standard say it covers?
Bank of us’s high-level summary lists loss or damage to contents caused by fire; flood or rainwater run-off; storm, storm surge or tsunami; theft or attempted theft; escape of water or liquid; earthquake; impact; lightning; explosion; accidental glass breakage; animal damage; riot or civil commotion; and deliberate or intentional acts. These are listed events, not a complete definition of cover: the applicable policy wording and your schedule determine the operative terms, conditions, limits and exclusions.

Which benefits and options deserve a closer look?
Accidental damage and motor burnout
For Contents Standard, accidental damage at home and electrical motor burnout are optional selections according to the product page. The page says both are automatically included with Contents Plus. Check which options are on your quote rather than assuming they come with Standard.

Portable belongings and valuables
Portable contents and valuable contents are shown as optional selections. Bank of us describes portable cover for items such as glasses, jewellery, laptops and mobile phones taken away from home. Its page states a limit of up to $10,000 per portable item unless the item is separately listed for more, and notes that exclusions and territorial limits apply. Check how an item must be listed, where it is covered, and what exclusions apply in the current wording and schedule.
Food spoilage
Bank of us says spoiled food and prescription medicine are covered if the fridge stops working after a covered event. Its summary states “No excess for food spoilage” and a maximum of $500 for Contents Standard; it shows $2,000 for Contents Plus. These figures are from the Bank of us product page accessed 7 October 2026, whose publication date is not stated. Confirm the operative limit and qualifying conditions in the policy documents.

Temporary accommodation
If a covered event makes the rental home unlivable, the product page says CGU pays reasonable extra rent costs for temporary accommodation. It describes a period of 12 months for Standard and two years for Plus. The summary does not establish all qualifying events, caps or conditions, so check those in the current policy wording.
What the public summary cannot tell you
The product summary is not enough to establish the policy’s full exclusions, excesses, eligibility rules, claim-settlement basis, detailed sub-limits, temporary-accommodation conditions, geographic limits or claims process. Bank of us links a CGU Product Disclosure Statement and a CGU Home Contents Key Facts Sheet; consult the current versions alongside your policy schedule. The links were not accessible when checked for this review, so those detailed terms cannot be confirmed here.

How to decide whether it suits your rental
Ask for a quote based on your address, the contents sum insured you need, selected options and applicable excess. Compare it with other policies on the same basis, using the current documents rather than headline summaries. In particular, check:
- Which events are insured and what exclusions or conditions apply.
- Whether accidental damage and motor burnout are included or selected separately.
- Portable-cover territory, per-item limits and how higher-value belongings must be listed.
- Valuables limits, food-spoilage cover and temporary-accommodation limits.
- The excess, claim-settlement basis and premium for your own quote.
Because the public summary does not supply the complete terms or an individual premium, it is not possible to determine overall value or name a clear winner from that information alone.
