To access Bank of America Online Banking, use the bank’s official sign-in page from a computer or the official Bank of America Mobile Banking app on a phone. Enter your Online Banking User ID and Password, then complete any identity check shown. If you cannot use the app, open bankofamerica.com in your phone’s browser. Forgotten credentials are recovered through the “Forgot ID/Password?” link on the official sign-in screen.
Use only the official Bank of America sign-in routes
Start from a bookmark you created for Bank of America’s official website or type the bank’s address yourself. Do not use login pages reached through unexpected emails, text messages, pop-ups, advertisements, or search results with unfamiliar domains. A genuine sign-in page should use Bank of America’s own web address and a secure browser connection.

For a computer, open the Online Banking sign-in page and enter the User ID and Password associated with your Online Banking profile. For a phone or tablet, open the Bank of America Mobile Banking app. The same Online Banking credentials are used in the app. Customers enrolled in the bank’s identity-verification options may see a request to approve the sign-in in the registered mobile app; the page may also offer a way to continue with the Password instead.

What you need before signing in
You need an Online Banking profile, your current User ID and Password, and a device with an internet connection. If Bank of America asks for an identity check, the registered phone number, mobile app, biometric setup, or other enrolled method must be available. Keep those contact details current so a legitimate verification request can reach you.
You do not need a separate paid banking application or a USB security key for ordinary access. A security key is an optional enhancement that works only when the feature is enabled for your account and device. If you are not enrolled in Online Banking, use the registration link on the official sign-in page rather than a third-party enrollment form.
How to sign in on a computer
- Open the official Online Banking sign-in page. Use a current browser and avoid signing in on a public or shared computer whenever possible.
- Enter your User ID. Check that the browser has not inserted an old ID from autocomplete or a password manager.
- Enter your Password. If you are unsure which saved password is current, type it manually rather than accepting an outdated stored entry.
- Complete identity verification if prompted. Enrolled customers may be asked to approve the sign-in through the registered mobile app. Follow the on-screen instructions and confirm that the request matches the sign-in you just started.
- Use the alternate sign-in option when offered. The current sign-in experience can provide a Password-based alternative to app verification.
- Stop if anything looks wrong. Close a page that requests unusual software, remote access, gift cards, or a verification code sent to someone else. Reopen the official site by typing its address yourself.
If you are not enrolled in Online Banking
Choose the enrollment link on the official sign-in page and follow Bank of America’s account-registration process. Enrollment is separate from signing in, so do not enter personal information into a third-party “registration” page. The exact information requested and the available enrollment choices can change as the bank updates its website.
How to sign in with the mobile app
- Install or open the official Bank of America Mobile Banking app. Obtain it through the bank’s official app link or the app store listing reached from Bank of America’s website. Check the publisher name before installing.
- Launch the app and select the sign-in control. Keep the operating system and the app updated so security fixes are available.
- Enter your Online Banking User ID and Password. These are the same credentials used on the web portal.
- Respond to an identity check. Depending on your enrollment and device setup, the app may use an additional approval, biometric check, or another verification method.
- Sign out when appropriate. On a personal phone, the app’s security settings can make repeat access easier; on a shared or borrowed device, sign out and do not save credentials.
If the app is unavailable for your device, open a mobile browser and visit bankofamerica.com instead. The mobile website provides a browser-based route without requiring an app installation.
App-only capabilities
Bank of America says most online and mobile banking functions are available in both channels, but it identifies Erica and Mobile Check Deposit as examples available only in the mobile app. If you need either feature, the browser portal will not substitute for the app.
Web portal versus mobile access
| Consideration | Computer web portal | Mobile app | Phone browser |
|---|---|---|---|
| Where you start | Official Online Banking sign-in page | Official Bank of America Mobile Banking app | bankofamerica.com in Safari, Chrome, or another current browser |
| Credentials | Online Banking User ID and Password | Online Banking User ID and Password | Online Banking User ID and Password |
| Additional verification | May request approval in the registered mobile app or offer a Password alternative | Depends on enrollment and device security setup | Uses the browser sign-in flow and any verification it presents |
| Distinctive features | Large-screen account management | Erica and Mobile Check Deposit are app-only examples | Useful when the app cannot be installed |
| Access charge | Not stated as a separate online-access fee | No fee to access the app, according to Bank of America | No fee to access the mobile website, according to Bank of America |
| Other possible costs | Carrier data, internet, and text charges may apply; some account services or transactions may have fees | ||
Choose the computer portal when you want a larger screen or are working on a device where installing software is not appropriate. Choose the app for app-only tools, mobile notifications, or an app-based identity approval. Choose the phone browser when the app is unavailable or your device does not meet the app’s requirements. All three routes use the same Online Banking credentials; no separate login is created for each channel.
Recover a forgotten User ID or Password
Recovery begins on the same official sign-in experience used for normal access. Do not create a second account simply because a password is forgotten.

- Open Bank of America’s official Online Banking sign-in page.
- Select “Forgot ID/Password?”.
- Choose the recovery path for the User ID, Password, or both, then provide the information requested by the bank.
- Complete any identity verification. Use only contact methods and codes displayed in the official flow.
- Create or confirm the new credential as instructed, then return to the sign-in page and test it manually.
If you normally use a password manager, update its entry only after the new Password works. A manager that continues submitting an old value can make a successful reset appear unsuccessful.
When the User ID is the problem
Check the User ID field separately from the Password field. Browsers often remember a previous account or insert a similar-looking value. Remove the saved entry temporarily, type the User ID yourself, and retry. If you manage multiple Bank of America profiles, verify that the selected profile is the one connected to the account you are trying to reach.
Password rules and reset failures
Bank of America’s troubleshooting guidance lists a Password of at least eight characters containing at least one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, and one number. Requirements can change, so follow the rules displayed during the current reset rather than relying on an older saved note. Avoid reusing a banking Password on email, shopping, or social accounts.
Fix a failed sign-in before contacting support
1. Check for an outdated saved credential
Old browser autocomplete and password-manager records are a common cause of repeated failures after a reset. Delete or bypass the stored entry, reload the official sign-in page, and enter the User ID and Password manually. Make sure Caps Lock, keyboard layout, and accidental spaces are not changing what you type.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2. Confirm that the verification request is yours
If the sign-in asks you to approve a request in the mobile app, compare it with the action you just initiated. Do not approve an unexpected prompt. If you did not start a sign-in, decline it and change your Password through the official recovery route.
3. Try a clean browser session
Temporarily use a private window or a different current browser to rule out a damaged cookie, extension, or autofill rule. Type the bank’s address instead of following a retained tab. If the clean session works, update the original browser, remove the stale credential, and review extensions that interact with forms.
4. Check the device and connection
Install pending operating-system and app updates, confirm that the device has a working internet connection, and make sure automatic date and time are enabled. An incorrect clock can interfere with secure connections and verification codes. On a phone, switch between Wi-Fi and cellular data only when you trust both networks.

If the official recovery process does not resolve the issue, Bank of America lists Online Banking support at 800.432.1000. Use the number shown on the bank’s current support pages if it differs, because contact details and service hours can change. Never give a caller a one-time verification code merely because the caller claims to be from the bank; end the call and redial using an official number.
Protect your account after you sign in
Keep verification details current
Bank of America advises customers to keep their verification contact information up to date. Review the phone numbers and other contact methods in your profile so a legitimate identity check can reach you when needed. Remove numbers or devices you no longer control.
Use optional sign-in enhancements
Bank of America describes authentication, encryption, and data-integrity protections for online banking information. It also describes several optional protections whose availability depends on enrollment and device setup:
- Digital ID in the mobile app: an app-based identity-verification option.
- Windows Hello: a Windows device sign-in method when supported and configured.
- Biometrics: fingerprint or face verification available on compatible devices and enabled accounts.
- Two-factor authentication: an additional verification step beyond the Password.
- USB security keys: a physical key plugged into a computer to verify identity when the feature is enabled.
These options can reduce reliance on a memorized Password or add a second check, but none makes an account completely safe. A USB security key is optional and is not required for ordinary Online Banking login. Bank of America’s guidance does not identify compatible models, so do not assume that a particular retail listing will work with your account.
Never share authentication secrets
Keep your User ID, Password, PIN, and verification codes private. Bank employees should not need you to disclose a one-time code to “cancel” a transaction or unlock an account. Treat an unexpected request for any of these details as suspicious.
Review activity promptly
Check account activity after signing in and contact Bank of America through an official channel if you see an unauthorized transaction or profile change. Early reporting gives the bank a chance to investigate and secure the account.

Access limitations and changing interface details
Online Banking availability is subject to Bank of America’s stated geographic restrictions, including restrictions related to U.S.-sanctioned locations. A sign-in failure while traveling may therefore have a location or network explanation rather than an incorrect Password. Avoid bypassing geographic controls with an unfamiliar service; contact the bank through an official channel for guidance.
Labels, Password rules, identity-verification choices, support hours, and app requirements can change. Follow the wording shown on the current official page, especially when it differs from an older instruction or saved screenshot.

Fees, data use, and device costs
Bank of America says it does not charge a fee simply to access the mobile app or mobile website. That does not eliminate every possible cost. Your mobile carrier or internet provider may charge for data, messages, or connectivity, and a particular account service or transaction may have its own fee. Review the terms for that service before submitting it.
The app is not required for web access, and a USB security key is not required for routine login. Installing an app from an unofficial source can expose credentials and may create charges or risks unrelated to Bank of America. Use the bank’s official app link and verify the publisher shown by the app store.
A quick checklist for a successful login
- Use the official Bank of America website or the official Mobile Banking app.
- Enter the current Online Banking User ID and Password manually when troubleshooting.
- Approve an app verification request only when you initiated the matching sign-in.
- Use “Forgot ID/Password?” instead of guessing repeatedly.
- Keep the phone number and other verification contacts current.
- Install app and operating-system updates and use a secure connection.
- Never disclose a Password, PIN, User ID, or verification code.
- Call Online Banking support at 800.432.1000 when official recovery does not work, while confirming the current number on Bank of America’s support page.
What to do when the app and website disagree
Start by checking whether one channel is using a stale session. Sign out, close the app or browser, and reopen the official sign-in route. If the app requests an approval that never arrives, verify that notifications are enabled for the registered device and that the device has connectivity; do not approve a request you did not initiate. If the browser accepts the credentials but the app does not, update the app and retry rather than creating new credentials. Conversely, if the app works and the browser repeatedly fails, clear the browser’s saved credentials and cookies or use a private window.
When neither channel accepts the credentials, use the official recovery path once, record the exact error wording, and contact Online Banking support if the reset does not help. Providing the wording, device type, browser or app version, and time of the failed attempt can help support diagnose the problem without asking you to reveal your Password.
