Banana Pi announced an H618-based BPI-CM7 compute module on September 30, 2026, listing a quad-core Cortex-A53 processor, LPDDR4, eMMC and Wi-Fi 5. The announcement does not confirm an Armbian image or official Armbian support for this exact module. It also does not establish that the separately listed BPI-CM7IO carrier is compatible, so verify the exact module-and-carrier pairing before buying.

What Banana Pi announced

Banana Pi’s team describes the BPI-CM7 as a compute module built around the Allwinner H618. The announcement lists onboard LPDDR4 memory and eMMC storage; its title specifies 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of eMMC. These are manufacturer-listed specifications, not independently measured results. Banana Pi’s September 30, 2026 announcement does not include benchmark, power, or thermal testing.

Processor, graphics and wireless

  • Processor: quad-core 64-bit Arm Cortex-A53, up to 1.5 GHz.
  • Graphics: Arm Mali-G31.
  • Wireless: K019 module supporting Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0.

The listed clock ceiling is a specification, not a performance result. The announcement provides no tested software configuration or measurements from which to judge real-world speed, power use, or heat.

Connectors and listed interfaces

This is a compute module rather than a complete single-board computer. Banana Pi lists two 100-pin board-to-board connectors and the following interfaces: HDMI, 10/100M Ethernet, one USB 2.0 OTG port, three USB 2.0 host ports, microSD, GPIO, UART, TWI/I2C, SPI, PWM, I2S/PCM, DMIC, SPDIF and IR. The listed input is 5 V. The announcement does not explain how these interfaces are routed through a particular carrier, so check the carrier’s documentation for the ports and functions you need.

Is Armbian supported on the H618 BPI-CM7?

Current Armbian support for this exact module is not established by the available documentation. Armbian’s documentation explains where to find board-specific images and support information, but general project documentation is not confirmation that the H618 BPI-CM7 is listed. Before relying on Armbian, check Armbian’s current board pages for the exact model and verify that an image is available for it. Do not assume support based on the product name or on support for another Banana Pi board.

Check the carrier before buying

Banana Pi’s documentation index lists both the BPI-CM7 (Allwinner H618) and a BPI-CM7IO compute-module IO board. That index does not establish that the BPI-CM7IO is compatible with this H618 module. The module announcement confirms two 100-pin connectors, but that alone does not prove that a carrier’s connector layout, electrical design, or board revision matches.

  • Ask the manufacturer or seller to confirm compatibility with the exact BPI-CM7 Allwinner H618 module, not merely a similarly named model.
  • Confirm the carrier’s board revision and connector pairing.
  • Check that it exposes the interfaces you need and has a documented way to supply the listed 5 V input.
  • Confirm what is included in the sale. The documentation index is not evidence that the carrier is bundled or currently available.

The model suffix matters: Banana Pi’s index also lists a BPI-CM7s based on the Rockchip RK3588S. The H618 module and the CM7s are distinct products; verify the full model and SoC in any listing. See the Banana Pi documentation index for its product entries.

Do you need a microSD card?

The module has onboard eMMC as well as a microSD interface. A microSD card is therefore a possible removable-storage accessory, not a documented requirement. Banana Pi does not specify compatible card capacity or performance class, or state whether a card is included. Check the module and carrier documentation or ask the seller if your setup depends on a particular card.
