More Origins, a community mod for Baldur’s Gate 3, describes its “Universal NPC Recruitment” feature as experimental. It is intended to let custom Origins recruit almost any NPC as a controllable party member and dismiss them to camp—but “any” is not a guarantee that every character will work reliably or survive every story transition without problems.
What More Origins’ NPC recruitment feature does
The More Origins Nexus Mods listing describes an experimental feature called “Universal NPC Recruitment.” Custom Origins can use it to recruit almost any NPC into the controllable party, then dismiss that character to camp. The mod also offers a roster of NPC Origins, with Raphael, Isobel, Orin and Scratch named as examples. These are community-created additions, not official game features. The word “almost” matters: the listing does not promise that every NPC can be recruited or will behave correctly once recruited. A character being controllable in one situation does not establish that the character will retain dialogue, follow the party across regions or remain stable throughout the story.

The available reports suggest that results can vary by character. One personal account describes recruiting Elegis, a background NPC, with More Origins and Immersive Nudity installed. That player said Elegis remained talkative and followed the party across regions, while other recruited characters went mute or failed to follow. The mod author’s changelog gives some context for travel behavior: version 2.3.0 added a “Grand Parade” option for summoning unlocked Origins and fixed an issue in which characters left the party after an act change. Version 2.4.0.1094 describes an improved solution for cross-region travel. Those notes document changes the author lists; they do not show that every recruited NPC will persist correctly through every act or region transition.

The listing identifies Norbyte’s Baldur’s Gate 3 Script Extender as a requirement for helping set Origins to start at level 1. That dependency is described in connection with the level-1 Origin setup; the listing does not establish that Script Extender is required for every More Origins feature. Confirm the requirements for the specific feature and setup you plan to use on the mod’s current page.
What to check before using it in a campaign
- Read the current mod page. Confirm the version, installation instructions and requirements that apply to your chosen features.
- Check your own setup. The available information does not establish a dependable compatibility matrix for game versions, platforms or saves, so do not assume universal compatibility.
- Expect character-specific behavior. Recruitment, dialogue and travel can differ between NPCs; the individual Elegis report illustrates that variability rather than proving typical results.
- Treat transitions as a possible trouble spot. The changelog mentions fixes and improvements for act and region travel, but does not guarantee that every recruited character will remain in the party.
More Origins makes recruiting a wide range of NPCs an option to try, not a dependable way to add any character to any campaign. Its own listing labels Universal NPC Recruitment experimental, and the reported results are mixed. Choose it if you are comfortable with mod-specific quirks; do not rely on every recruit working consistently across the full game.
