BackstopJS क्या करता है—और क्या नहीं
BackstopJS अलग-अलग runs में वेब ऐप के screenshots की तुलना करता है, ताकि UI में आए दृश्य बदलाव सामने आ सकें। इसमें Chrome Headless rendering, browser report और CLI/JUnit reports शामिल हैं; README Playwright या Puppeteer scripts से user interactions को simulate करने का भी उल्लेख करता है। BackstopJS का आधिकारिक GitHub README
यह functional test suite का विकल्प नहीं है। Screenshot में अंतर मिलना अपने-आप में bug का सबूत नहीं: वह इच्छित redesign, dynamic content या capture timing का असर हो सकता है। यह परीक्षण भी अपने-आप यह साबित नहीं करता कि बटन, form या किसी अन्य व्यवहार ने सही काम किया।

पहला visual test: install से report तक
1. Project में package जोड़ें
अपने ऐप के root folder में जाएँ और local install करें:

3. एक स्थिर scenario चुनें
हर scenario को पहचानने योग्य label और उस page/state का URL चाहिए जिसका screenshot लेना है। पहले एक ऐसे पेज से शुरू करें जिसकी सामग्री और अवस्था हर run में दोहराई जा सके—मसलन homepage या sign-in के बाद का स्थिर screen। Scenario configuration में viewport dimensions, cookies, readiness condition, delay और state बदलने वाली script जैसी चीजें तय की जा सकती हैं।

npm package documentation में readyEvent, readySelector, readyTimeout, hideSelectors, removeSelectors और onReadyScript जैसे scenario controls दिए गए हैं। onReadyScript से capture से पहले hover या click जैसी interaction कराकर किसी खास UI state तक पहुँचा जा सकता है। BackstopJS का npm package documentation
- अलग-अलग scenarios को साफ और अलग labels दें।
- URL को ऐसी app state पर रखें जहाँ login या अन्य जरूरी setup पहले से संभाला गया हो।
- केवल मनमाना लंबा wait जोड़ने के बजाय page readiness को दर्शाने वाली condition चुनें।
- Rotating banners, timestamps, random content और animations को स्थिर करें या, जहाँ उचित हो, capture से पहले छिपाएँ।
- Responsive व्यवहार जाँचना हो तो उन viewport sizes को configuration में शामिल करें जिनकी आपको सचमुच परवाह है।
4. मंजूर baseline बनाएँ

backstop referenceइन screenshots को आगे के runs में तुलना के लिए स्वीकार की गई baseline माना जाता है। गलत state में reference बनाने से बाद के comparisons भी उसी गलत स्थिति से होंगे।
5. बदलावों की जाँच करें
backstop testयह test screenshots लेकर उन्हें references से तुलना करता है और report दिखाता है। Report में reference, नया test capture और visual difference देखें। किसी scenario को filter करके देखना भी README में बताए गए report workflow का हिस्सा है।

Page readiness और समय
Screenshot तभी उपयोगी comparison है जब हर run में capture समान अवस्था में हो। संभव हो तो किसी स्थिर selector या ready event को readiness signal बनाएँ। readyTimeout समय-सीमा तय करने سے متعلق option है; बहुत छोटा timeout धीमे page को अधूरा पकड़ सकता है، جبکہ صرف بڑا delay رکھنے سے test अनावश्यक سست یا پھر بھی غیر مستحکم ہو سکتا ہے۔
Login، cookies और interactions

Dynamic content और animations
