Choose AzuraCast for a separate internet-radio station
AzuraCast fits a station that needs web-based management, DJ accounts, browser DJ access, listener requests, public pages or relays. Its documented RadioBOSS setup connects the software to the station over Icecast. That creates an AzuraCast station feed; it should not be treated as the same thing as direct YouTube video output.

A setup may use RadioBOSS output for YouTube and a separate Icecast connection to AzuraCast. The cited guides do not establish simultaneous-output limits, a tested dual-destination configuration, or how reliable such a design will be, so confirm the required routing and test it before relying on it for a scheduled broadcast.

How to send RadioBOSS to YouTube
- Enable YouTube live streaming. In YouTube Studio, enable live streaming for the channel. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours. Check current account eligibility and any Studio prompts. YouTube: Create a live stream with an encoder
- Create or select the stream in YouTube Studio. Copy the server URL and stream key shown for that stream. Keep the key private: it authorizes an encoder to send to your broadcast.
- Set up the RTMP encoder in RadioBOSS. Open Settings → Options → Broadcast → Custom Encoders, add a custom encoder and select RTMP. Enter the YouTube RTMP output URL and stream key. Specify a background image or video; install the plugin if RadioBOSS prompts you to do so. RadioBOSS: RTMP streaming
- Add a broadcast encoder. Configure a broadcast encoder to use
[rtmp]and the custom encoder you created. Confirm that the correct encoder is selected before starting the broadcast. - Start the encoder and check YouTube’s Live Control Room. For a scheduled stream, use YouTube Studio’s scheduling workflow, connect the encoder at the scheduled time, and use the control-room go-live action if prompted. Plan for YouTube’s archive behavior

How to connect RadioBOSS to AzuraCast
- Open the station’s Streamers/DJs page in AzuraCast and retrieve the connection details for the broadcaster account you intend to use.
- Add an encoder in RadioBOSS and choose Icecast. Enter the AzuraCast connection credentials and settings from the station page, then connect and verify that the station receives the live feed.
- Use this as an AzuraCast station connection. AzuraCast recommends Icecast for DJ/broadcaster connections because Liquidsoap intermediates them. This documented route supplies audio to the AzuraCast station; it does not by itself create a YouTube video livestream. AzuraCast DJ setup

For a DIY setup, account for the computer that must run the automation, the network connection, and—if you choose self-hosted AzuraCast—the work of maintaining the server and installation. YouTube supplies its own server URL and stream key and controls the YouTube-side scheduling and Live Control Room actions.

Check rights and channel requirements before scheduling music
Automation does not grant rights to the music or other material in a playlist. Make sure you have the rights needed for the content and destination, and review YouTube’s current live-streaming and channel requirements in YouTube Studio before going live. YouTube’s interface and account rules can change.
Troubleshooting common setup failures
- YouTube does not show an incoming encoder feed: check that live streaming is enabled, use the server URL and stream key from the correct YouTube Studio stream, and verify the RTMP custom encoder and broadcast encoder selection in RadioBOSS.
- The stream connects but the scheduled broadcast is not public: check the stream’s schedule and status in Live Control Room; connecting the encoder and making the scheduled event live may be separate actions.
- RadioBOSS cannot connect to AzuraCast: confirm that you selected Icecast and copied the current connection credentials from the station’s Streamers/DJs page. Also confirm the RadioBOSS edition supports live broadcasting.
- AzuraCast plays audio but YouTube has no video output: an Icecast feed into AzuraCast is a station-audio workflow, not the documented direct YouTube RTMP video route. Configure RadioBOSS’s separate RTMP output for YouTube if that is the destination.
- A very long stream is not archived as expected: review YouTube’s current archive guidance; the cited help page states the automatic archive rule for streams under 12 hours.

Can I use a microphone with a music livestream?
A microphone is optional for a playlist-only broadcast. YouTube lists microphones among typical live-stream equipment, but the documented RadioBOSS RTMP setup does not require one.
