Choose the Retroid Pocket 5 only after checking its current price and the systems you actually intend to run; its official listing confirms Android 13 and an eight-core CPU, but the available specifications do not establish a measured performance or battery-life winner.
First, correct the name. AYN’s official catalog lists Odin 3 and Odin 2 Portal as separate handhelds. There is no “Odin 3 Portal” model in the official product material used for this comparison. If you meant Portal, you need a different comparison: Odin 2 Portal versus Retroid Pocket 5.

Display: Odin 3 has the clearer published advantage
Odin 3’s 6-inch, 120Hz AMOLED
Odin 3 is listed with a 6-inch Full HD AMOLED touchscreen and a 120Hz refresh rate. AMOLED provides the display characteristics buyers generally seek in a gaming handheld—high contrast and strong black levels—while 120Hz allows the interface and compatible games to refresh more frequently than a 60Hz panel.
A 120Hz panel does not make an emulator run at 120 frames per second. The game, emulator settings, device workload and power profile still determine the actual frame rate. It can make scrolling and supported games feel smoother, but it is not a substitute for a benchmark.
Retroid Pocket 5 display information
The manufacturer result available for Pocket 5 confirms the model and its Android/CPU configuration but does not provide display figures that can be quoted here with the same confidence. Do not assume that Pocket 5 has the same size, resolution or refresh rate as Odin 3; verify those values on the current Retroid product page before buying.
How to choose based on the screen
- Prioritize Odin 3 if a documented 120Hz AMOLED panel is important to you.
- Prioritize the Pocket 5 only if its current listing meets your required size, resolution and refresh rate at a lower delivered price.
- For older systems, display refresh rate is usually less important than correct aspect-ratio handling, integer scaling options and comfortable controls. Those qualities require hands-on testing or detailed software reviews that are not established here.
Software: Android 15 versus Android 13
AYN lists Odin 3 with Android 15, while Retroid lists Pocket 5 with Android 13. The two version numbers describe the software shipped or advertised by each manufacturer at the time of their listings; updates can change what a device runs later.

Why the version matters
- A newer Android release can offer a longer runway for applications that require newer system APIs or security behavior.
- Android version alone does not guarantee better emulator compatibility. Emulator developers, graphics drivers, controller support and game-specific settings matter too.
- Update policy is a separate question. The published specifications do not establish how many major Android upgrades either handheld will receive.
What to check before purchase
- Open the manufacturer’s current product page and note the Android version stated for the exact configuration.
- Look for a dated firmware or update announcement and confirm whether it applies to your region and hardware revision.
- After delivery, open Settings, then About phone or System (the label varies by Android build), and record the installed Android version and security-update date.
Do not pay extra solely for the Android number if the applications you need already support Android 13. Conversely, if you expect to keep the handheld for years, Odin 3’s newer listed baseline is a reasonable tie-breaker when prices are close.
Hardware and configuration choices
Odin 3 configurations
AYN lists Odin 3 from a Base configuration with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage to an Ultra configuration with 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. The listing also includes intermediate configurations. More storage is straightforwardly useful for large Android games, disc images and multiple emulator libraries; extra RAM is harder to value unless your workload actually keeps many applications or large assets resident.
Recommended Free Tools
For most buyers, choose storage based on the size of the library you will carry internally and whether the model supports the expansion method you plan to use. The available material does not establish every Odin 3 storage-expansion detail, so confirm card-slot support, maximum card capacity and file-system limits on the exact product page.
Pocket 5’s published CPU layout
Retroid specifies one Arm Cortex-A77-class core at 2.8GHz, three A77 cores at 2.4GHz and four A55 cores at 1.8GHz. This is useful for identifying the advertised configuration, but clock rates and core counts are not a measured comparison with Odin 3. Performance depends on the complete system: graphics hardware, cooling, memory bandwidth, emulator version, operating mode and sustained power limits.
Controls and durability claims
AYN explicitly lists Hall sticks for Odin 3. Hall-effect sensing can reduce the mechanical wear mechanism associated with traditional potentiometer sticks, but the listing does not establish a lifetime rating or guarantee immunity from every control failure. Pocket 5 control details were not fully established in the available official result, so inspect the current specification sheet if stick type is a deciding factor.

Battery and portability
What is established
Odin 3 and Odin 2 Portal are both listed with 8,000mAh batteries. Pocket 5’s battery capacity and runtime were not established in the official result available for this comparison. Capacity is not runtime: screen brightness, refresh rate, wireless radios, game load, emulator settings and thermal behavior can change endurance substantially.

AYN lists Odin 3 at 390g. That number helps you compare it with other devices you already own, but it does not predict comfort for every hand size or grip. Pocket 5’s weight was not established here, so do not infer that it is lighter or more portable without checking the current listing.
A practical portability test
- Measure the case or bag compartment where you will carry the handheld, not just the bare device dimensions.
- Include the charger, cable, SD-card case and any grip or protective shell in the space calculation.
- If you play during commutes, decide whether a larger screen is worth the additional bulk before selecting a higher-capacity model.
Without controlled runtime and comfort tests, the responsible conclusion is limited: Odin 3 has a documented 8,000mAh cell and 390g listed weight; Pocket 5 requires current listing checks and hands-on evidence for a fair portability verdict.

AYN’s Odin 3 page showed a $369 starting listing price and batch-preorder information at the time captured for this article. That is a time-sensitive listing, not a guaranteed delivered price. Stock status, shipping, tax, payment fees and configuration surcharges can change the amount you pay.
A current Pocket 5 price was not established in the available official result, so a dollar-for-dollar value verdict would be invented. Compare both devices using the same method:

- Include a charger if your existing one does not meet the manufacturer’s requirements.
- Budget for a case, screen protection and storage only after confirming fit and compatibility.
- Check return terms and warranty coverage before treating a preorder or sale price as final.
AYN’s catalog lists an Odin 3 carrying case, soft pouch, screen protector, accessories pack and 256GB SD card. These listings show that accessory categories exist; they do not independently confirm fit for every Odin 3 configuration or compatibility with third-party products. Verify the model and dimensions before ordering.
Which handheld fits your priorities?
Choose Odin 3 when the published specification is what you need
- You want a documented 6-inch Full HD AMOLED screen with 120Hz refresh.
- You prefer the newer Android 15 listing over Android 13.
- An 8,000mAh battery and a listed 390g weight fit your travel plan.
- You need the option to buy up to 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.
- Hall sticks are an explicit requirement.
Choose Pocket 5 only after confirming the missing buying facts
- You find a materially lower delivered price for the exact configuration you want.
- Its current display, battery, weight and storage details meet your requirements.
- Android 13 is sufficient for your applications and expected support period.
- Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 matter to your streaming or accessory setup.
- Independent testing confirms the performance, temperatures and battery life you need.
Wait or gather more evidence when performance is the deciding factor
No named benchmark or controlled head-to-head test was established for these two devices. If your decision depends on a particular console generation, demanding emulator or long sessions, look for testing that uses the same emulator version, game, resolution, frame-rate limit, thermal condition and power mode on both handhelds. A processor specification alone cannot answer that question.
Buying checklist
- Model: confirm “Odin 3,” not “Odin 2 Portal,” if you want the specifications in this article.
- Configuration: write down RAM and internal storage before comparing prices.
- Display: verify the Pocket 5’s exact size, resolution and refresh rate on its current listing.
- Software: confirm the Android version and whether the seller describes a current or launch build.
- Battery: distinguish capacity from independently measured runtime.
- Delivery: calculate shipping, taxes and import charges for your country.
- Accessories: check model-specific fit for cases, protectors and memory cards.
- Returns: read the policy before ordering a batch preorder or discounted unit.
Setup after delivery
Verify the hardware
- Photograph the box and serial label before removing protective film, which helps if a return is needed.
- Confirm the model name, RAM/storage configuration and physical condition against the order.
- Test both sticks, every face button, shoulder buttons, touch input, speakers, charging and wireless connections before installing a large library.
Update safely
- Charge the handheld and connect it to a trusted Wi-Fi network.
- Use the system update option supplied by the manufacturer; do not flash firmware intended for Odin 2 Portal onto Odin 3.
- Restart after updates and recheck the Android version in Settings.
Organize games and emulators
- Install applications from reputable sources and keep a record of the version that works with your setup.
- Use legally obtained game software and system files; a handheld does not grant rights to copyrighted ROMs or BIOS files.
- Create separate folders for each system and back up save files before changing emulator settings.
- Start with conservative resolution and frame-rate settings, then increase them only if the game remains stable during a sustained session.
Verdict
On the information that can be verified, Odin 3 is the easier recommendation for a buyer who wants a clearly documented feature set: 6-inch Full HD AMOLED at 120Hz, Android 15, an 8,000mAh battery, Hall sticks and configurations up to 24GB/1TB. Its listed $369 starting price was tied to a specific time and preorder context, so confirm the delivered total before paying.
Pocket 5 remains a plausible choice when its current price, size and tested behavior better match your budget and library. The official listing establishes Android 13, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1 and the stated A77/A55 CPU arrangement, but the available evidence does not prove that it is faster, lasts longer or is more comfortable. If the product page says “Portal,” stop and reassess: that is Odin 2 Portal, a separate 7-inch Android 13 handheld with a Qualcomm 8 Gen 2 platform.
