AWS Well-Architected Agent is a preview service that analyzes configured AWS environments and recommends changes based on Well-Architected guidance. AWS says it can scan on a schedule, prioritize findings against business goals, and provide implementation artifacts—including updated infrastructure-as-code (IaC)—but customers must review recommendations before acting. It is not documented as an autonomous production-change system.
What is AWS Well-Architected Agent?
AWS describes the Agent as an AI-powered cloud optimization service. It uses AWS environment data and Well-Architected guidance to generate prioritized recommendations for cost optimization, security, resilience, and performance. Recommendations can address individual resources, applications, or an overall architecture.
The Well-Architected Framework is AWS’s set of best practices for evaluating and improving how workloads are designed, implemented, and operated. AWS says the guidance spans six pillars; the Agent’s recommendation areas listed in its guide are cost optimization, security, resilience, and performance. The [June 27, 2024 framework guidance update] describes changes to guidance across all six pillars.
How the Agent works
- Set up an agent profile. An administrator selects AWS accounts, Regions, optimization pillars, and business goals for the profile. AWS documents a limit of up to 100 accounts per profile.
- Let it analyze the configured environment. AWS says scheduled analysis runs on an ongoing basis and recommendations refresh weekly. The Agent ingests findings from services such as Trusted Advisor, then adds personalization, goal-based prioritization, and remediation guidance.
- Review the prioritized recommendations. AWS says recommendations can show impact and effort, cross-pillar trade-offs, risk levels, and mitigation strategies. This is intended to help teams decide what to address first, rather than treating every finding as equally urgent.
- Choose and deploy remediation. AWS describes ready-to-implement changes such as updated IaC code, Systems Manager (SSM) runbooks, CLI scripts, or guided console walkthroughs, where applicable. The documented process has customers review recommendations and deploy changes; it does not establish that the Agent independently changes production infrastructure.
The account limit and weekly refresh cadence are AWS-documented service details, not independently measured performance results. See the [AWS Well-Architected Agent guide] for current product documentation.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
How it differs from a manual Well-Architected review
| Dimension | AWS Well-Architected Agent | Manual review |
|---|---|---|
| Cadence | AWS says scheduled analysis runs on an ongoing basis, with recommendations refreshed weekly. | A team initiates and conducts a review when it chooses; a recurring schedule is not inherent to the review. |
| Scope | Recommendations can be organized at resource, application, and architecture levels. | A team evaluates a workload and works through the findings within the scope it defines. |
| Prioritization | Uses configured business goals and AWS-described impact, effort, risk, and cross-pillar trade-offs. | The team interprets findings and decides how to prioritize them. |
| Implementation support | AWS lists artifacts such as IaC changes, runbooks, scripts, and guided steps where applicable. | The review provides guidance; implementation remains the team’s responsibility. |
The Agent does not replace the AWS Well-Architected Tool. AWS says the Tool remains available for manual workload evaluation using user-defined lenses. The two options serve different workflows: ongoing, environment-based recommendations from the Agent versus a review led by a team through the Tool.
Does it review Terraform or CloudFormation?
Yes. AWS says teams can submit Terraform, CloudFormation, or AWS CDK templates for an on-demand architecture review before deployment. The launch announcement describes code changes intended to align IaC with Well-Architected best practices. That pre-deployment review is distinct from the Agent’s scheduled analysis of configured AWS resources.

Can it change AWS infrastructure automatically?
AWS’s documented workflow calls for a customer to review recommendations and deploy any remediation. The documentation describes implementation artifacts, not automatic deployment to production. Treat the outputs as proposed changes: inspect the reasoning and code, test changes through your normal review and release process, and account for the stated risks and trade-offs.
AWS’s guide gives this warning: “As with any AI-generated content, please thoroughly review each recommendation before taking any action based on it.” Application-level recommendations are also marked beta, so that part of the service is less mature than a generally available feature.

Which Regions and support plans are supported?
AWS announced the public preview on October 1, 2026. Its announcement lists three initial Regions for hosting agent profiles: US East (N. Virginia), US East (Ohio), and US West (Oregon). AWS says resources can be onboarded from any commercial AWS Region, so the profile’s hosting Region and the Regions it scans are not the same limitation.
The current guide lists these eligible support plans:

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What is not yet established
AWS’s launch announcement and guide describe the service’s workflow and intended capabilities, but they do not establish its pricing, independently measured accuracy, customer savings, or production outcomes. The existence of recommendations and implementation artifacts is not evidence that a particular change will improve a workload. Teams should evaluate recommendations in the context of their own architecture, constraints, and operational controls.
