What MediaPackage does—and what an alternative must replace
AWS describes MediaPackage as a just-in-time packaging and origin service: it prepares incoming media in delivery formats in response to playback requests. It can be part of a resilient 24/7 live workflow, but it is not, by itself, a system for scheduling uploaded videos into a continuous YouTube channel. AWS’s example architecture uses MediaLive for ingest and encoding, MediaPackage for packaging, and CloudFront for delivery. If you want to replace only MediaPackage, compare packaging and origin functions; if you want to replace the full workflow, compare every component and its operating cost. AWS says MediaPackage “does not limit customers’ choices of video players, CDNs or ad providers” and works with other AWS services to build resilient live workflows. That is AWS’s description of its own product, not an independent performance guarantee.

Castr’s platform page describes cloud playout that schedules uploaded videos, recordings, and live streams into a continuous channel. It also describes sending a finished video as a prerecorded live stream to YouTube, Facebook, or an RTMP destination. That makes Castr the closest directly documented managed alternative in the reviewed pages for scheduled, continuous YouTube output. Its listed capabilities also include RTMP and SRT ingest, live transcoding, multistreaming, hosting, and monetization. Confirm that the specific plan supports the destinations and workflow you need. Castr’s pricing page, accessed in 2026, listed these USD monthly prices and bandwidth allowances. The page also showed annual-billing equivalents; confirm current pricing, taxes, currency, limits, and overages before purchase. These are vendor-listed prices, not India-specific quotes.

Wowza’s video pricing page describes 24×7, simulated-live, and large-event streaming as available. This may suit a technically capable operator who needs configurability and can manage infrastructure, monitoring, and ongoing operations. The reviewed official pages do not establish that it provides the same turnkey scheduled YouTube playlist workflow as a managed playout service. Wowza’s separate Streaming Engine pricing page lists $195/month for a Basic Monthly first instance and $295 for a one-month license. These figures refer to Streaming Engine private-cloud/on-prem streaming; they are not necessarily an all-in cloud playout bundle. 4. StreamYard: for hosted live production, not established playlist playout
StreamYard’s pricing page describes live streaming and recording plans and says customers can pay in USD or Indian rupees. The reviewed page does not establish scheduled, continuous cloud playlist playout to YouTube. Consider it for creator-led live shows or multistreaming, not as a confirmed replacement for an automated 24/7 prerecorded channel unless StreamYard confirms that workflow directly. Compare the whole workflow cost, not just packaging
AWS bills MediaPackage live packaging based on video ingested and content originated or packaged. AWS recommends using a CDN such as CloudFront to cache content and reduce MediaPackage origination volume. A full AWS bill can also include MediaLive encoding and viewer delivery, so the MediaPackage line item alone is not the cost of the channel. AWS MediaPackage pricing.
AWS’s deployment guide, accessed in 2026, gives modeled examples for one-hour events in US East (N. Virginia). These are architecture examples under stated assumptions—not quotes for Indian creators or estimates for a 24/7 channel. Both assume viewers consume the highest bitrate and a 99% CDN cache/hit ratio; AWS says its examples are likely higher than actual costs and that prices can change.

The examples show why audience delivery can dominate an estimate as viewership rises. For any provider, compare encoding, packaging, CDN or viewer delivery, bandwidth caps and overages, storage, failover, and the labor of keeping the stream monitored and running. Castr’s figures are vendor-listed monthly plan prices and bandwidth allowances, not directly comparable with AWS’s one-hour modeled event bills.
An India-specific all-in comparison is not established by the listed pages: the AWS examples use a US region, Castr displays USD pricing, and StreamYard says INR payment is accepted without establishing total cost for this workflow. Check billing currency, applicable taxes, current plan allowances, and overage terms with each provider.

- Playout versus packaging: Does the service schedule uploaded videos into a playlist, or only package an incoming live feed?
- YouTube path: Can it publish directly to YouTube, and how are the destination and stream key configured and protected?
- Protocols and encoding: Which ingest and egress protocols are supported? Is transcoding or adaptive bitrate output included, and what quality settings apply?
- Continuity: What failover or recovery behavior is provided, and what monitoring or intervention remains your responsibility?
- Capacity and billing: What are the concurrent stream, storage, bandwidth, and viewer-delivery limits? How are overages billed?
- Availability and support: Is the required service available in the region you need, and what support and billing terms apply in India?
AWS’s current live quota documentation lists a maximum 24-hour time-shifted manifest length and a maximum 24-hour Live-to-VOD manifest length. These are limits on those manifest features, not a maximum runtime for a channel. A cloud playout tool does not grant rights to the videos it streams, and continuous playback does not remove the need to follow YouTube’s copyright and channel policies. Use material you own or are licensed to stream, and check YouTube’s current rules for copyright, monetization, and reused content before building a channel around repeated videos. A scheduled stream can keep playing technically while still creating rights or policy problems.
