If an AWS Elemental MediaLive channel will not start a YouTube stream, first verify the current RTMPS URL and stream key in YouTube Live Control Room, then compare them with MediaLive’s destination and output settings. YouTube uses secure RTMPS ingest; AWS lists MediaLive endpoints in Mumbai and Hyderabad, but that availability alone does not show that an India-region choice caused a particular failure.
Start with the YouTube ingest details
- Open YouTube Live Control Room. Open the stream’s Stream tab or schedule a stream, then go to Stream settings.
- Reveal and copy the RTMPS URL. Use the lock control to reveal the secure URL. YouTube may show an ordinary RTMP URL by default, so deliberately select the RTMPS URL. Treat the URL and stream key as separate values.
- Copy the current stream key separately. Use the key associated with the stream you are setting up. Do not post it in screenshots, logs, or support requests; redact it before sharing configuration details.
YouTube’s account-specific Live Control Room values are the source of truth for the ingest endpoint and key. See YouTube’s instructions for streaming with an encoder.

Compare MediaLive’s RTMPS destination fields
MediaLive represents an RTMP destination as a set of fields rather than necessarily one complete URL. Compare the values with the RTMPS URL YouTube provided, paying particular attention to whether the application path and stream name are split between destination and output settings.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Protocol: Select RTMPS rather than RTMP.
- Host and port: Use the server and port corresponding to YouTube’s current RTMPS URL.
- Application name or path: Check that the path is neither omitted nor duplicated when entered across MediaLive’s destination fields.
- Stream name: Enter the stream key in the RTMP output’s stream-name field when that is how the destination is configured. Do not paste the key into the host or application path by mistake.
- Certificate mode: Match MediaLive’s certificate setting to the downstream endpoint’s TLS requirements.
A mismatch in how the URL is divided across host, application path, and stream name can prevent the connection even when the copied details look familiar. AWS documents the destination and RTMP output settings in its MediaLive RTMP destination guidance.

- Compact but Powerful Design: ZowieBox is smaller than a phone, featuring a tally light and LCD screen for streaming status. Capture console gameplay in up to 4K with zero-lag HDMI passthrough, while the built-in video encoder converts video for IP streaming. The IP stream can also be decoded back to a 4K HDMI signal.
- Standalone Game Streaming: Just plug and play—ZowieBox enables PC-free live gaming without affecting gameplay. As an RTMP hardware encoder and HDMI streamer, it delivers stable streaming directly from your source, making it ideal for gaming, live events, and professional broadcasting.
- NDI|HX3 Converter Technology: ZowieBox converts HDMI signals to NDI|HX3/HX2/HX, functioning as an NDI video encoder, or NDI Video Decoder for flexible IP workflows. Certified NDI technology enables low-latency gameplay streaming through OBS/vMix. Note: Encoder and decoder modes cannot run simultaneously; full NDI signals are not supported.
- UVC to HDMI Conversion: Supporting up to 4K@30fps and 1080p@60fps decoding, ZowieBox enables flexible conversion for webcam and video workflows. As a video decoder and HDMI to IP converter, it expands connectivity options for professional video devices. Note: USB capture card functionality is not currently supported.
- All-around Configuration Options: Control ZowieBox through its web UI on a PC, phone, or tablet. Manage connected PTZ cameras, tally light, video/audio, OSD, work mode, streams, network, and system settings. Support for VISCA over IP encoder workflows enables flexible PTZ control, while the dashboard provides video preview and system status.
Use RTMPS, TLS, and port 443 for the right reasons
YouTube’s guidance calls for the correct secure protocol and server: use rtmps, not just rtmp. RTMPS uses TLS on port 443, and the host name matters for SNI authentication. If the URL appears correct but MediaLive reports an SSL error, verify the full URL and try specifying port 443. A timeout can also result from an incorrect URL or sending cleartext RTMP to an endpoint expecting RTMPS; neither symptom by itself proves an AWS region problem.

Confirm the output uses supported codecs
If MediaLive establishes a connection but YouTube does not recognize or accept the stream, check the output encoding. AWS lists H.264 video and AAC audio for MediaLive RTMP/RTMPS output. Codec compatibility is a separate check from whether the destination connection starts; changing codecs will not correct a wrong URL or protocol. See AWS MediaLive RTMP codec guidance.

Read both ends’ status before changing retries
Record the MediaLive channel state, the RTMP output’s connection or retry status, the exact error and timestamp, and whether YouTube Live Control Room shows an incoming stream. These observations help distinguish a channel-start problem from an ingest-connection or stream-acceptance problem.

MediaLive exposes settings including cache, restart delay, connection retry interval, retry count, and certificate mode. Use the reported error to guide changes. Increasing retries may affect recovery behavior, but it cannot repair a wrong ingest URL, protocol, host, or path. AWS describes these options in its RTMP reconnect settings documentation.
Does the AWS region explain the failure?
AWS lists Elemental MediaLive endpoints in Asia Pacific (Mumbai), ap-south-1, and Asia Pacific (Hyderabad), ap-south-2. This confirms regional endpoint availability; it does not establish that your account or channel can or should run in either region, or that region selection caused a destination connection failure. The reviewed official guidance does not establish an India-specific YouTube restriction or a current regional outage. Check the actual channel region and error rather than inferring a cause from the symptom. AWS’s MediaLive endpoints list identifies the available regional endpoints.

If you are choosing between regions, consider actual account and channel availability, the network path from the MediaLive output to YouTube’s ingest endpoint, and your operational requirements. The cited endpoint information does not provide measured India-to-YouTube latency or recommend Mumbai over Hyderabad, or vice versa.

Troubleshoot by symptom
| What you observe | What to check next |
|---|---|
| SSL error | Confirm that the current YouTube RTMPS URL, host, and certificate mode are correct; verify TLS settings and try port 443. |
| Connection timeout | Recheck the full URL, RTMPS protocol, host, port, and application path. A timeout can be consistent with a wrong URL or cleartext RTMP sent to an RTMPS endpoint; it is not, alone, evidence of a region-specific issue. |
| MediaLive reports retries or repeated connection failures | Capture the exact output error and state first. Check destination fields and stream-name mapping before altering retry intervals or counts. |
| MediaLive connects, but YouTube shows no accepted or recognized stream | Check whether Live Control Room detects an incoming stream, then verify the RTMP/RTMPS output uses H.264 video and AAC audio. |
| The channel does not start | Record its AWS region and channel state as well as the output error. Do not assume the region is the cause without evidence from the channel and destination status. |
What to include in a support request
- AWS region and MediaLive channel state.
- The exact output error and timestamp, plus whether the output reports connecting, retrying, or connected.
- Redacted destination fields: protocol, host, port, application path, stream-name configuration, and certificate mode. Never include the stream key.
- Whether YouTube Live Control Room shows an incoming stream, and which current RTMPS URL source you used.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded video looping as a 24/7 YouTube stream rather than configure a MediaLive output, StreamNeo is a separate cloud service to consider. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it plays your uploaded videos to YouTube, not a camera feed.
