If your main requirement is to repeat a prerecorded file continuously, AWS Elemental MediaLive has the clearer documented behavior: its user guide says a file input can start again from the beginning when its source end behavior is set to LOOP. Ant Media Server documents prerecorded-video playlists and YouTube restreaming, but its cited playlist guide does not establish that a playlist repeats endlessly. Treat that as a version-specific question to verify before choosing Ant Media for an unattended loop.

Choose MediaLive when documented file looping is the deciding factor
MediaLive is the more directly supported choice if you need a single file input to restart from the beginning when it ends. Configure the input’s source end behavior as LOOP, then separately configure and verify the YouTube output. Do not treat the loop setting alone as proof that YouTube is receiving a continuous stream: the destination and stream key are part of the workflow too.

Choose Ant Media when you want its playlist and restreaming workflow
Ant Media’s documentation supports playlists made from prerecorded VoD files and describes restreaming to YouTube. However, the cited version 3.1 playlist guide does not establish infinite repeat. If that behavior is essential, confirm how the exact version and edition you plan to deploy handles the end of a playlist or file before committing to it.

Set up the YouTube side correctly
- Get the destination details from YouTube. In YouTube Live Control Room, follow YouTube’s encoder workflow to obtain the server URL and stream key for the broadcast. Enter those details in the chosen encoder or restreaming configuration. YouTube’s encoder instructions
- Prefer encrypted ingest when supported. YouTube documents RTMPS as encrypted RTMP. Select the RTMPS endpoint in the encoder when it supports that connection method. YouTube’s RTMPS instructions
- For MediaLive, configure the file input’s end behavior. Set source end behavior to
LOOPso the file is ingested from the beginning after reaching its end. Then configure the separate output and YouTube destination; the loop behavior does not supply those settings for you. Include an audio track: Ant Media warns that YouTube does not accept a stream without audio. - Verify a complete cycle. Confirm the broadcast appears in YouTube, the audio is present where applicable, and the prerecorded source behaves as intended at its end. For a loop, check that playback returns to the beginning; for Ant Media, do not assume this happens automatically without verifying the configured version.
Compare total cost, not just the service label
Neither product has a single workload-independent cost for a continuous YouTube stream. MediaLive charges depend on running inputs, outputs and add-on features; configuration, region, codecs, resolution, frame rate, output count and uptime affect the calculation. A published AWS example is not a 24/7 YouTube quote: AWS’s deployment guide estimates $69.74 for a one-hour event under a specific scenario—about 1,000 viewers, one hour at SD-540p, US East (N. Virginia), standard pricing, including $1.99 for MediaLive plus packaging and distribution.
