There is no single monthly price for running a 24/7 YouTube channel on AWS Elemental MediaLive in India. The bill depends on the AWS Region, channel class, attached inputs, configured outputs, add-ons and runtime. AWS’s published examples cited here are for US East (N. Virginia), not Mumbai, so they are not India quotes. To estimate your actual cost, configure the workflow in AWS Pricing Calculator, then verify GST against the payer’s billing entity and tax settings.
How MediaLive charges for a 24/7 channel
AWS calculates MediaLive charges from the configured inputs, outputs and enabled add-ons. A channel continues to incur charges while it is running even when an input is not receiving content or an output is not producing content. Idle-resource and data-transfer charges may also apply.

Inputs and channel runtime
Input cost depends on factors including the number of attached inputs, input type, codec, resolution and bitrate. A running attached input can be billed even when inactive or not receiving content; input switching can affect how many inputs are charged. Push inputs may also incur idle-resource charges while unused, while AWS says pulled inputs do not incur that idle-input charge. A channel running around the clock accrues charges across its run hours.

Each configured output contributes to the bill. Its price depends on codec, bitrate, resolution and frame rate. AWS notes that if frame rate is left to initialize from the source, it may provision the greater-than-30-fps pricing tier. Advanced audio, audio normalization and motion graphics can add per-channel costs.

Channel class and Region
A single-pipeline channel uses one processing pipeline in one Availability Zone. A standard channel uses two pipelines in different Availability Zones for added resiliency; the classes have different rates. Region also affects price. Mumbai may suit some India workflows, but the published examples discussed below do not establish a Mumbai rate: select the actual Region in the calculator.
What AWS’s published examples show—and what they do not
AWS’s MediaLive pricing page gives a US East (N. Virginia) on-demand example of a specified standard channel with two HEVC HD inputs, five AVC outputs and advanced audio at $3.942 per hour. A related example for a specified configuration with one input and a 12-month commitment gives $564.12 for a 30-day month under reserved pricing, compared with $2,414.88 on demand. These are configuration- and Region-specific examples, not forecasts for an unspecified YouTube channel or prices for Mumbai. See AWS Elemental MediaLive pricing and its pricing documentation.

AWS’s Live Streaming on AWS deployment guide includes a separate one-hour sample workflow in which MediaLive input and outputs cost $1.99 per hour. That is a sample configuration, not an India estimate. The guide also illustrates why a MediaLive subtotal is not necessarily the whole workflow bill: packaging/origination and CloudFront delivery are separate cost components, and viewer count and bitrate can materially affect delivery spending.

AWS advertises savings of up to 75% versus on-demand pricing for inputs, outputs and add-ons with a 12-month commitment. “Up to” is a maximum advertised saving, not a guaranteed discount for your channel. AWS says reserved pricing can be used for channels running more than 180 hours per month; reservations are charged for every hour in each commitment month and apply to matching component reservations. Compare the commitment cost with your actual configuration before choosing it.

How to estimate the monthly cost for your workflow
- Describe the source. Record the source device or software, input protocol, codec, resolution and bitrate. If the source is a camera or production feed that needs conversion to a supported RTMP input, an HDMI video encoder may be relevant; compatibility depends on the specific device and workflow. AWS lists RTMP push and pull among MediaLive input types in its MediaLive FAQs.
- Define every output. Specify the output ladder, including each output’s codec, resolution, bitrate and explicit frame rate. Avoid leaving frame rate unspecified if you need to control which pricing tier may be provisioned.
- Choose the Region and channel class. Select Mumbai or the Region you will actually deploy in, then choose single-pipeline or standard based on the resiliency your workflow requires. Do not substitute a US East example for a Mumbai estimate.
- Add add-ons and operating assumptions. Include required audio or motion-graphics features, expected channel runtime, attached inputs and any idle push inputs.
- Build the MediaLive estimate. Enter the configuration in AWS Pricing Calculator. Identify the result as MediaLive-only and state the selected Region and whether the pricing is on-demand or commitment-based.
- Account for the rest of delivery. Add separately required packaging, origin, storage, CDN or internet-transfer services. Estimate viewer delivery using explicit audience and bitrate assumptions; do not label the MediaLive subtotal as the full YouTube workflow cost.
- Check billing taxes. Apply the treatment shown for the actual billing entity and payer tax settings. If the estimate is intended to include GST, state whether GST is included and verify the final invoice basis.
Until the Mumbai calculator estimate, billing basis and payer-specific tax treatment are checked, a single exact INR monthly figure would imply more certainty than the available inputs support.

AWS’s India tax guidance, last updated March 2026, says AWS India charges GST on cloud-service sales to customers in India. It states that Delhi customers are charged 9% CGST plus 9% SGST, while customers in other states are charged 18% IGST. AWS directs GST-registered business customers to update the payer and linked accounts with their GSTIN and registered address so it can issue a correct tax invoice. Whether a business can claim tax credit depends on applicable law and its circumstances. See AWS Tax Help — India.

The same guidance distinguishes customers located in India who buy from Amazon Web Services, Inc. outside India. It describes 18% IGST for non-business OIDAR customers and gives separate tax-setting guidance for registered business customers. Physical location alone does not establish the applicable invoice treatment: confirm the contracting and billing entity, payer tax profile and actual invoice.
