For the main animated story, watch Avatar: The Last Airbender, then The Legend of Korra, then Avatar: Seven Havens. The new feature Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender is an optional film about the original heroes as adults, so place it after the original series if you want every animated screen story. The 2010 live-action The Last Airbender is a separate adaptation, not a chapter in the animated continuity.
The short answer: the best Avatar watch order
The cleanest, spoiler-light sequence follows the fictional timeline rather than release dates:

If you also want the announced animated feature, insert Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender between the first and second items. It returns to Aang’s original companions in adulthood, but it is not required to understand Korra or Seven Havens.

Why continuity order is more useful than release order
The franchise now has several kinds of screen productions: a completed animated series, an animated sequel series, an animated feature, a new animated sequel, and a live-action adaptation. Treating every release as one uninterrupted list creates confusion because the feature and the live-action film serve different purposes.
The Legend of Korra is described by Nickelodeon as a spinoff of the original series. Seven Havens is described by Paramount as the story of the new Avatar after Korra. That makes the animated continuity straightforward: Aang’s series establishes the world, Korra follows that era, and Seven Havens follows Korra’s era.
The Aang feature is different. Paramount’s announcement presents it as the original Gaang entering adulthood, so it expands the first generation rather than handing the story to the next Avatar. You can watch it immediately after the original series without disrupting the larger timeline, but skipping it does not create a gap before Korra.
Step-by-step viewing guide
1. Start with Avatar: The Last Airbender
Begin with the original animated series, sometimes called “ATLA” by fans. It follows Aang, the Avatar who must restore balance while the world is threatened by the Fire Nation. The series is the foundation for every later animated project: its rules for bending, Avatar reincarnation, spirits, nations and major historical events are assumed by the sequels.
Nickelodeon’s 2025 franchise announcement counts 61 episodes across three seasons, originally released from February 2005 through July 2008. Watch all three seasons in their normal episode order. No film or spinoff should be inserted between seasons.
- Why it is essential: it introduces Aang’s era, the political history that later characters inherit and the recurring ideas that define the Avatar world.
- What you need before moving on: the complete three-season run, rather than a highlights list or a recap.
- What not to substitute: the 2010 live-action adaptation retells the premise in a different format and is not a replacement for the animated continuity.
2. Optional: Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender
Place this animated feature directly after the original series if you want the new story about the original heroes as adults. Paramount announced a global Paramount+ premiere for July 25, 2026, with the film bringing the original Gaang into adulthood.

The film is optional because the central sequel path does not depend on it. You can watch the original series and continue straight to The Legend of Korra; the feature is a companion chapter focused on Aang’s generation, not a bridge that must be seen before Korra.

- Include it when: you want more time with Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph and their contemporaries after the animated series.
- Skip it temporarily when: you want to reach the next Avatar’s era without adding a side chapter.
- Timeline position: after the original animated series; it is not a sequel to Korra and does not belong after Seven Havens.
3. Continue with The Legend of Korra
Watch The Legend of Korra after Aang’s series, with or without the optional feature. Korra is the next major Avatar in the reincarnation cycle and the show’s setting reflects a later period of technological, social and political change.
Nickelodeon’s franchise announcement identifies the series as a spinoff of the original. That relationship matters for viewing order: Korra’s conflicts and institutions grow out of the world established by Aang, so watching Korra first removes context that the original series is designed to provide.
There is no need to alternate episodes of the two shows, and the Aang feature should not be used as a mid-season intermission. Finish the original series, optionally watch the feature, then watch Korra in its own release order.
4. Finish the current animated continuity with Avatar: Seven Havens
Seven Havens follows Korra. Paramount’s announced premise centers on Pavi, a young Earthbender who discovers that she is the Avatar after Korra. A cataclysm has reshaped the world; Pavi and her long-lost twin, Nisha, are pursued by human and spirit enemies while they try to save the Seven Havens.

Is Seven Havens out yet?
Yes. Paramount’s September 10, 2026 release announcement scheduled Book 1’s global Paramount+ rollout in four weekly batches:

Therefore, a viewer starting on October 17 can watch the first six Book 1 episodes and then follow the remaining weekly drops. Paramount announced the premieres globally on Paramount+, but streaming catalogs and access can vary by territory. Check the service’s local listing before assuming that a specific episode or film is available in your country.
On October 10, Paramount reported that the first three episodes had premiered and announced renewals for Books 3 and 4. Those renewals confirm that more story is planned, not that those books are currently streamable. Their dates and the chronology of the separately announced Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos remain open until an official schedule places them.

Both approaches are valid, but they answer different questions. Continuity order gives a new viewer the clearest story progression. Release order is useful if you want to experience the franchise as audiences encountered it, including the adaptation and the newer projects as they arrived.

Where the 2010 live-action film fits
The 2010 live-action The Last Airbender adapts the premise of the original animated series. It is not a sequel, prequel or continuity checkpoint between Aang, Korra and Seven Havens. Watching it after the animated original lets you compare adaptation choices while preserving the animated story’s momentum.
Because the available primary-source information does not establish additional current availability details for that film, check the catalog in your region rather than assuming a particular service carries it. Nothing in the film is required preparation for Korra or Seven Havens.

Do the graphic novels belong in the watch order?
No. The graphic novels are an optional reading path, not episodes that need to be inserted between the animated shows. They can add stories and background after viewing, but the screen continuity remains complete without them.

The same announcement reported more than 700,000 young-adult novel copies sold in print and audiobook formats and more than 25 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list for those YA novels. Starting with Korra
Korra is set later and can be watched on its own, but beginning there removes the character, history and world-building context supplied by Aang’s series. Start with the original unless you deliberately want a later-era entry point.
Putting the Aang feature after Korra
The feature is about the original Gaang as adults. Placing it after Korra makes the release feel like a jump backward. Insert it after the original series or save it as an optional companion before starting Korra.
Treating the live-action film as the next season
The live-action movie is an adaptation of the original premise. It does not lead into Korra and should be labeled as a separate version when you plan your watchlist.
Assuming all of Seven Havens is available
Book 1 is releasing in stages. On October 17, 2026, only the first two episode batches were scheduled to have premiered; episodes 7–9 and 10–13 were still dated for October 23 and October 30. Books 3 and 4 have been renewed, but their release dates were not announced in the cited Paramount update.

Placing Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos without an official timeline
Kuruk is a newly announced animated series, but the announcement did not establish where its story sits relative to Aang, Korra or Seven Havens. Keep it out of a definitive watch order until Paramount publishes that chronology.
A practical plan for different viewers
First-time viewer
Watch all of Avatar: The Last Airbender, then all of The Legend of Korra, and begin Seven Havens as Book 1 becomes available. Add the Aang feature afterward if you want another story centered on the original cast.
Returning fan who wants every animated release
Rewatch the original series, watch Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, continue with Korra, and then follow the Seven Havens rollout. Keep Kuruk on a separate “待 for chronology” list until an official placement is provided.
