Korra is the immediately previous Avatar
The theory emerged because Seven Havens takes place roughly two centuries after the events associated with Korra. Fans wondered whether another Avatar could have lived and died during that interval, making Pavi a successor several places down the cycle rather than Korra’s direct successor.

DiMartino ruled that out in a 2026 interview. His statement was unequivocal: Korra was the previous Avatar
, he confirmed, adding, There wasn’t a secret Avatar in between. I feel okay debunking that theory.
That establishes the succession order currently presented by the creators: Korra was followed by Pavi. The large time gap is not evidence of an undisclosed Avatar.

What remains unexplained about the two-century gap
The confirmation closes the “secret Avatar” question, but it does not explain how the timing works. The interview reiterates the usual rule that a new Avatar is born when the previous Avatar dies. It does not disclose when Korra died, how long the world went without a known successor, or what events connect her era to Pavi’s.
Those missing details are being treated as part of Seven Havens’ central mystery, not as proof that the established Avatar cycle was secretly interrupted. Until the series supplies more information, the chronology should be described as unresolved rather than filled in with a speculative intermediate incarnation.
Who are Pavi and Nisha?
Pavi
Paramount’s official premise introduces Pavi as a young Earthbender who discovers that she is the next Avatar after Korra. A cataclysm has devastated the world, and people now view the Avatar as humanity’s destroyer instead of its protector. Pavi must investigate her origins while trying to save the Seven Havens.

Nisha
Nisha is Pavi’s long-lost twin. The creators have said they wanted to explore “Twin Avatars,” an angle they had not used in the earlier animated series. Official material confirms that the show will explain why the twins are connected to the Avatar mystery, but it does not say that Nisha is a separate, hidden successor in the reincarnation chain.
Therefore, two different questions should not be conflated: the succession question has been answered—there is no intervening Avatar—while the twin mechanism remains a plot question that the series intends to unpack.
What Seven Havens changes about the Avatar premise

This combination gives the new series a different starting pressure from a conventional successor story. Pavi is not simply inheriting a celebrated role; she is being hunted or feared because of what people believe the Avatar did to the world. At the same time, the audience is expected to discover why one family contains the story’s twin-Avatar mystery.

Is it a sequel to The Legend of Korra?
Yes. Seven Havens continues the Avatar timeline after Korra. Its direct placement is now clear even though the intervening history is not: Korra is the previous Avatar, and Pavi follows her. The new show also expands the setting after a cataclysm rather than returning to the political circumstances of Korra’s era.

Release plan and episode structure
The initial order contains 26 half-hour episodes, divided into two books of 13 episodes each. The first three episodes premiered globally on Paramount+ on October 9, 2026. The announced rollout is:

Paramount has renewed the story for Books 3 and 4, ensuring that Pavi and Nisha’s journey will continue beyond the initial two-book order. Episode counts and release schedules for those books have not been announced in the cited material.

The renewal does not itself reveal how twins can be connected to one Avatar cycle or what happened between Korra and Pavi. It does mean the creators have additional planned space to address those questions rather than ending the story with the initial order.
Who is making the series?
Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko are co-creators and executive producers. Production is handled by Avatar Studios and Nickelodeon Animation Studios, with Ethan Spaulding as executive producer and Sehaj Sethi as co-executive producer.
The confirmed answer in one sentence
