Avalanche Studios Group is reported to become the global publisher of Supermassive Games titles, with Directive 8020 named as the first game under the arrangement. The report describes a publishing role between two studios in the Nordisk Games family—not a merger or acquisition. Supermassive lists Directive 8020 as released on May 12, 2026.
What the reported publishing arrangement means
GamesMarket reported on October 9, 2026, that Avalanche Studios Group will become the global publisher of Supermassive Games titles. In practical terms, the announcement assigns Avalanche a publishing role for Supermassive games on a worldwide basis. It does not say that Avalanche is taking over Supermassive’s game development or ownership.

Supermassive describes it as a space-horror game in The Dark Pictures series and gives its release date as May 12, 2026, on its official About page. The game was therefore already released by the time of GamesMarket’s October 9 report.

Does this cover every Supermassive game?
GamesMarket describes Avalanche’s role broadly as global publishing for Supermassive titles, but its report does not enumerate the games covered or explain whether every past, current, or future title falls within the arrangement. It names Directive 8020 as the starting point; it does not confirm that other specific games are included.
Supermassive’s portfolio includes Until Dawn, The Dark Pictures Anthology, The Quarry, and Little Nightmares III, but the studio’s portfolio listing alone does not establish that any of those titles is covered by this arrangement. Nor does the report say that existing publishers or rights holders have been displaced.

How the two studios fit within Nordisk Games
The arrangement brings together two companies already in the same group. GamesMarket says Avalanche Studios Group and Supermassive Games are both part of Nordisk Games. Supermassive says Nordisk acquired it in 2022; Nordisk is part of the Egmont Group. Nordisk’s studio portfolio lists both companies, and Egmont’s Games page describes its games business.
The companies have distinct creative identities. Avalanche Studios Group identifies Avalanche Studios, Expansive Worlds, and Systemic Reaction as its creative divisions and is known for an open-world-focused portfolio. Supermassive describes itself as a storytelling-games studio. The reported arrangement concerns publishing, not a stated change to either studio’s creative organization.
